NOTD: Mint Green by Barry M

To break away from my usual Models Own nail polish purchases, i thought id try the much raved about Mint Green by Barry M to see if it lives up to the hype... and let me tell you, it doesnt disappoint!
Mint Green by Barry M
Application was smooth but the colour did appear quite streaky and the colour wasnt very vibrant after one coat.  The consistency of the polish seemed quite watery.  That was until i applied a second coat...

Mint Green after 2 coats
A second coat later and this nail paint was transformed into the vibrant, creamy, gorgeous colour that ive heard everyone talking about!  I always apply a second coat of nail varnish anyway so this really doesnt bother me.

2 coats, before a top coat
As for the colour, it is exactly what you'd expect from a nail paint named Mint Green.  Its a gorgeously light, pastel shade of green that looks as good in the bottle as it does on the nail.

I bought my nail paint from Superdrug, they're usually £2.95 each but they had a 3 for 2 offer on so i got a couple of other things to try.  Barry M also have a website http://www.barrym.com/ where you can buy absolutely everything Barry M from the comfort of your living room!

Have you tried this nail paint? Im definitely going to buy some more Barry M nail paints. I absolutely love this one, its right up there with my fave nail paints!

Primark Accessories Haul

It was my birthday yesterday and I got a little bit of money as part of my presents off some of my family.  I had a little spare time today so popped into the Metro Centre before going to uni and headed straight to Primark, or Primarni as i like to call it.

I never used to like Primark because when it first opened it was a bit like a jumble sale with clothes just all over the place but now i think they're loads more organised and i can quite happily go into the store to browse at all the lovely things.  Everything has been bought with the autumn/winter season in mind.

Heres what i bought:
Primark Accessories Haul Cosy Socks
Knee High Cosy Socks- £1 a pair
The first thing i bought was two pairs of knee high cosy socks which were like a one size fits all, well if you're a 4-7, so they fit the majority of womens feet.  These socks are perfect for the cold, winter nights which seem to have come very early this year- im wearing the pink pair already!  They're so cosy and warm.  I love the colour and design of these socks too.

The pair on the right in the picture above are baby pink and white stripe with a little white bow on the top.  They're a stretchy material with an elasticated bit around the top.  The pair on the left are the same baby pink colour but they have like little sparkly bits in and a little pink bow at the tope instead of white.  Ive tried to capture the sparkly bits in the photo below:

Primark Accessories Haul Cosy Socks
Pink and sparkly socks
The only problem I had with these socks is that they are supposed to be knee high but they dont reach quite up to my knee, perhaps its because im a size 7 but surely if they fit a 4-7 then they should reach the knee no matter what the shoe size?  I love these socks despite this and cant really complain as they were only £1 a pair and ill be wearing them rolled down or half way up anyway.  Heres how the socks look when they're unrolled:

Primark Accessories Haul Cosy Socks
Gorgeous cosy socks
These will look gorgeous with my PJ's this winter. I usually wear shorts n a vest top, even in winter so they'll look cute and add an extra bit of warmth.

The next thing i bought was these gorgeous chunky knit mittens in grey:

Grey mittens- £2 a pair
I love colour of these mittens, grey will literally go with most of my winter wardrobe and at only £2 a pair i couldn't resist!

Popcorn knit
On the receipt, these mittens were referred to as 'popcorn mitt' which, when looking at them, is a good description.  They're a fab design and look much more expensive than they were.  They're also really warm and cosy and come a bit further up my arm, passed my wrist which i like as i hate it when i stretch my arm out and theres a gap between my glove or mitten and my coat!

So warm and cosy, i love these mittens
I much prefer mittens to gloves as i like to be able to move my fingers about inside.

Next i bought a snood for £4.

Snood- £4
Its a cross between a scarf and a hood and can be worn three ways, 1. wrapped twice round the neck, 2. around the neck unwrapped so its just like one big loop, and 3. wrapped twice round the neck, with one of the loops pulled up over the head like a hood.

Snoods have been around for years, i remember wearing a cream one back in school (how very fashion forward!) but they really became popular last winter.  This one is a light grey with silver thread weaved through it with little silver sequins on.

I'll be able to use it throughout the day or even to keep me warm on an evening with skinny jeans, a little top and a blazer for the cinema or something.

The next thing I bought were these tan coloured wannabe sheepskin mittens for £3:

Tan mittens- £3
Last winter i saw some gorgeous UGG mittens in my local Daniel Footwear shop.  Whilst they looked gorgeous in the box, when i tried them on they were so itchy and i just knew they would irritate the life out of me.  The also came quite far up my arm which i found restricting.  All in all, they were definitely not worth the £90 (something like that) price tag they were given.  When i saw these mock suede and mock sheepskin mittens in Primark i was a little put off at first thinking that they'd look cheap but honestly when i tried them on they totally changed my mind.  They're so soft and exactly what i was looking for.  Being a BIG fan of the Ugg brand, I couldn't believe i loved these so much at such a very small fraction of the price.

They can be worn two ways:

Look 1: Unfolded
Even when unfolded, these mittens keep your hands warm without restricting the movement of your wrist.  They come a little past the wrist too so again, no skin is left out in the cold.

Look 2: Folded Over
With the tops of the mittens folded over they look really cute and bang on trend, i prefer this look the best!

I also bought this gorgous dusty dull pink knit hat for £3:
Pink knit hat- £3
This gorgeous pink colour has shiny pink thread running through it with little sequins on, a bit like the snood.  In fact you can actually buy a snood that is the same colour, material etc as a snood and theres a grey hat the same as this one like the grey snood i bought.  I just thought these would suit me best out of what i got. I didn't buy them both in the same colour as i wont be wearing them together anyway so didn't need them to match.

Now for shoes, i got these gorgeous pumps for £12:
Black and studded pumps- £12
They have a gorgeous double knotted bow on the front with little gold studs on and they have a rounded point.  They're a bit more pricey than a lot of Primark pumps but thats because they have real leather uppers and they're much cheaper than other high street shops and such good quality too.  I wore these on a night to the cinema recently with some black skinny jeans.

Moving onto jewellery, i bought these gorgeous vintage earrings:

Vintage earrings- £1.50
I couldn't believe these were only £1.50, they're an absolute steal, especially with all the detail thats on them. My friend has a round version from Top Shop and they were quite a bit more expensive.  They are oval shaped and creamy pearl in colour with gold around the outside.

Another vintage inspired buy was this flower ring:
Vintage ring- £2
It was only £2 and its absolutely HUGE! It has a gold metal pattern around the outside and a faded flower picture in the middle.  Ill wear this on either my index finger or my ring finger, although its a little big... perhaps I should have just bought the medium!

Looks gorgeous on <3
Another ring i bought is this sparkly bee ring:
Bee ring- £2
How cute does this ring look?
This ring is silver coloured with white, black, brown and yellow stones. Its really pretty but something that i wouldn't usually buy as i usually go for flowery rings but i thought id give something different a go.  I think im going to enjoy wearing this ring, its very bling!

I bought my first two finger ring from Primark on this shopping trip too.  Ive read so much about them on blogs that i thought id give this 'Love' one a go:
Love two finger ring- £1.50
Im not too sure if i like my fingers being restricted by a two finger ring but at £1.50 ill definitely give it a go.  I really like the script writing of the word 'love' and it looks lovely in gold, especially since I'm quite tanned at the moment. This is the ring on:
Wearing the love ring
The last piece of jewellery that i bought was this gorgeous pearl love necklace for only £2:
Love necklace- £2

Love necklace

Ive been really into pearls for a while now so this is the perfect necklace for me!

What do you think of my Primark buys?

NOTD: Beths Blue by Models Own

Beths Blue by Models Own
Just painted my nails ready for going to uni and for lunch with my friend Jonny and before i put a top coat on, i thought id write a little blog post about the polish I've used.  Its called Beths Blue by Models Own.  I do apologise if all of my blog posts on nails seem to be about Models Own polishes, its just that i most of the polishes i own are by Models Own and they're the ones i use most frequently out of my nail polish collection.  I love them so much because they're great quality for a great price and rival the high end brands- and win!  They're such good value for money, but they haven't skimped on the packaging like some brands do.  I love the way the polishes look both in the bottle and on my nail and Beths Blue is no exception.

The application of Beths blue is easy- the consistency is so smooth and creamy.  It definitely needs to coats but most polishes do.

Beths Blue after one coat

Beths Blue after two coats
I absolutely love the colour of Beths Blue, I've never seen a colour like this by any other brands and it is most certainly a welcome addition to my pastel polish collection. The colour is like a blue/light violet colour and actually reminds me a bit of a blue version Lilac Dream by Models Own, if that makes any sense! The colour is so creamy and after two coats it doesn't look at all streaky.

This was £5 but if you check out Models Own you'll find loads of money saving offers as if you buy more, you save more :)  They also sell the polishes in Boots :) But i dont think my local one has them in so i always shop online (best savings too!).

Im wearing this polish with skinny jeans, my new Ralph Lauren polo (in quite a similar colour) and jumper and some cosy knitwear I've just got from Primark.  Cant believe its cold enough for a scarf already. Gutted!

Overall a lovely polish and definitely worth five of the queens English!  My boyfriend has even complimented me on this colour- now, for a boy to notice nail polish, it MUST be good!

Thunder and Lightning On Our Caravan Holiday in Scarborough

My blog may be called 'What Laura Loves' but i can tell you what Laura most certainly does not love and thats being stuck in a caravan during a thunder storm.

With it being my birthday on Sunday we booked a cheapy break away in a caravan along the Yorkshire coast about two hours from where we live.  The drive down was fab and the weather was gorgeous all week.  I went with my family.

3 generations all together <3

We did loads of typical family things, which was lovely. We went to the Sea Life centre in Scarborough and saw a huge turtle and penguins, such a good day out if you like that kinda thing. We also went to this animal and garden park in Filey.  We ate out at some lovely restaurants and it was lovely to get dressed up with my mum and nana... 3 generations all together :)

On Thursday, I drove a little further afield and went to the Designer Outlet in York. OMG, it was absolutely fantastic. Bargains galore!  While we were there we did a little shopping for my birthday.  I got a v neck jumper and two polos from Ralph Lauren, a cable knit jumper from Crew Clothing, a crotched waterfall cardigan from Next and some Bobbi Brown and MAC make up.  Ill do a post about some of my purchases later... at the moment they're being wrapped up in shiny paper for my birthday :D  I also had a look in Joules because I'm trying to get my hands on some welly socks and although they didn't have any in the shop, the sales assistant said that they have just opened an ebay shop for the joules outlet so i MUST have a look on there!

We'd had such a lovely day at the designer outlet but as we were coming home, the heavens opened and the rain was pouring and pouring down.  It was quite scary actually when we were driving back as all the country roads were all flooded and my windscreen wipers weren't wiping fast enough so i could hardly see where i was going.  Clearly a little convertible isn't designed for such conditions!  By the time we got back to the caravan the rain was getting heavier and heavier but after a few hours, it started to clear up, so we were able to go out to get some dinner.  We didn't go to bed until late but by then the rain had started up again.  It was fab listening to it pitter patter on the caravan roof. Until we were all awoken at 4am with a bright flash of light and the loudest bang I've ever heard.  To say i was shitting myself is a complete understatement, pardon my french.

We all got up and tried the light and soon discovered all of the electric was off.  Then in walks a man, soaking wet and dressed all in black and carrying a torch!  Turns out he was an electrician off the campsite and had come to check our fuse box.  He told us the lightening had hit the caravan next to us, blown all the fuse boxes and thats why we had no electricity.  A very sleepless nights sleep followed.  It really is true what they say about the calm before the storm because it would be really quiet, then the wind would start up and then the thunder and lightening!  Really exciting but really really scary too!!

Hope you've all had a good week.  Ill never forget mine in a hurry. Such a lovely, fun, exciting and scary time rolled into one!

Hairspray The Musical at the Sunderland Empire Review

Hairspray The Musical review at the Sunderland Empire

This week, I was surprised with tickets to see the musical Hairspray at the Sunderland Empire as an early birthday present.  I literally had no idea as he'd booked tickets for the matinee performance and took me into town thinking i was going shopping.

I absolutely LOVE Hairspray, i saw the film on the plane when i was coming back from the Maldives a few years ago and loved all the music and just how colourful it was.  Hairspray is set in America in Baltimore in 1962 and follows the story of dance and fashion trendsetter Tracy Turnblad as she overcomes negative opinions about her size to dance on the Corny Collins TV Show.  Its a storyline with a happy ever after ending as Tracy wins the heart  of Link Larkin the towns heart throb.  Along the way, Tracy helps to overcome discrimination because of her size which is something i can relate to, being a bigger girl, and she also aids integration of the black and white community in Baltimore and brings a love of RnB music to everyones ears.
The leading cast vary depending on where you see the show but in Sunderland where i saw it, Les Dennis played the part of Wilbur Turnblad and Michael Starke played the part of Edna Turnblad (previously played by Michael Ball and Brian Conley).  We actually got the opportunity to meet the cast afterwards and we chatted with Les Dennis and Michael Starke and had our photos taken with them.  They were both really lovely but Michael Starke more so than the others as he really spent a long time chatting to us all.

Hairspray is such a fab musical, i would urge all of you to see it.  Tickets are a little pricey but they are completely worth the money.  It is a show all the family can enjoy.  There is literally something for everyone from the songs, to the hair and make up (which is absolutely amazing, big and backcombed, just how i like it!) to the dancing and acting.

My boyfriend was even dancing and clapping along to my favourite song 'You Cant Stop The Beat' at the end of the show.  Its not my birthday until the 26th but I'm hoping to get the DVD now.... hint hint!
Have any of you been to see Hairspray? What did you think of the show?

NOTD: Pink Blush by Models Own

At long last, i have found the ultimate Barbie pink nail polish: Pink Blush by Models Own.

Ive searched long and hard to find a colour like this and although ive found some gorgeous pinks, they were either too bright, too dark or too much of a pastel shade to what i was looking for.  There was a couple of pinks that I thought had that "Barbie" look about them, Models Own Sophie's Pink and Pink Blush, so i thought id wait until the Models Own 50% off sale to purchase them.  However before the sale started, I had the chance to read Amy's blog where she wrote about Sophie's Pink by Models Own.  I was sooo thankful to Amy for her review and swatches of this nail polish as its actually more of a neon colour and looks different to how it looks in the bottle.  Her blog is fab and really helped me to make my mind up when deciding which polish to go for, so when the MO Facebook 50% off sale came around, i took the plunge and purchased Pink Blush in the hopes that it was the shade of pink i was looking for... and it sooo is!

Like most other MO nail polishes, application was smooth, even and streak free.  The polish is so well pigmented that i could have left it at one coat but i always do two coats, just incase ive missed any edges or anything.  For quite a matte nail polish it does have enough of a shine to it too that meant i didnt need to wear a top coat.  Normally id apply one anyway but i was in a rush when i put this on and was quite happy with the results so didnt apply one later.

Pink Blush has so much staying power too- ive had it on for 5 days now and judging by the above photo- its still chip free!

I paid £2.50 for my nail polish as i got it in the MO sale, but usually these polishes retail at £5 on http://www.modelsownit.com/ or from selected Boots stores.  They always have fab offers on so you can save some money too.

Id highly recommend this polish if you're looking for bright, colourful, Barbie pink nails.  I absolutely LOVE IT!
