WhatLauraWore: Back To School... Preppy Style

Morning All

Hope you're all up bright and early for work like I am.  Although I love my job, I'm genuinely looking forward to the Royal Wedding, mainly because I'm getting a day off work which means I have a three day weekend to look forward to. Hello relaxation!  I was at work ALL Easter so this three day weekend (yes, I'm saying it again!) is LONG awaited!

We often have themed days at work and yesterday the theme was Back To School.  Whilst I love a theme, I really don't like the idea of spending money on a fancy dress outfit ill wear once and never again, before I even get to work... it kind of defeats the object of going to work to earn money in the first place!  That said, I did still want to make an effort.  I had a look around in my wardrobe and was genuinely surprised to see that I don't own a white shirt or a blazer and I don't even have my school tie anymore, not that I could find anyway.  So instead, I went for a preppy non-uniform day kind of look, inspired by how I see some kids dress in American schools.

I've tried to mix designer with high street for this look.  I hope you all like it :)

NOTD: Eyeko Vintage Polish

Eyeko Vintage Polish for Elegant Nails £5

I'm not too sure if this nail polish makes my nails look elegant but its certainly pretty, particularly for the spring time.  Like all Eyeko nail polishes, I found the consistency to be quite thin and watery so I definitely couldn't leave this at one coat.  That said, the colour applies in thin layers and after the second coat you're left with an even, full colour, application.  I was expecting it to take a long time to dry like Nude Polish by Eyeko but this seemed to dry much faster which is always a good thing for a busy bee like me.  Vintage polish is a gorgeous light jade green colour with quite a glossy finish.  On me, I found that it lasted for two days before it began to chip and thats without a top coat so thats long enough for me really as I usually apply my nail polish with a particular outfit or night out in mind.  I've loved wearing this polish over the last couple of months.  Its such a pretty colour and goes with so many daytime summer outfits in my wardrobe.

Laura's Top Holiday Picks...as featured on Evans

Happy Friday Everyone!
The weekend is finally here and guess what?  Im working! Great.  Fear not though, I intend to enjoy Saturday evening with a couple of Crabbies and a take away while watching Britains Got Talent.  It is this Saturday that it starts isnt it?! I really hope so or my weekend will be a complete loss.
Today a post I had written was published on the official Evans blog.  Click here to read my ramblings.  This was such a fun post to write as I love putting together outfits and trawling through websites to find my favourite picks.  This post was all about the Evans Holiday Shop and some of the gorgeous pieces they have.
Here's a snippet below:

"Every Spring I look forward to the spring/summer collection being released at Evans and this year has certainly not disappointed me! Their pieces are bang on trend and I love how there is something for everyone. It’s great to see that Evans hasn’t compromised style for size. I thought I would share with you my five favourite pieces from the Holiday Shop which I’ll most certainly be purchasing for my own wardrobe. I live for the summer months, whether I’m at home or abroad, I just love to have the sun on my back, it is when I am at my most happiest, and probably the most stylish too as I adore the bright colours, floral prints, white linen and touch of bling that spring/summer fashion brings. This summer I’m looking forward to long walks in the English countryside with my fiancĂ©, ice cream by the sea and a few music festivals. We’re not going abroad on holiday until December this year as we really thought we’d benefit from a bit of winter sun so I am sure the latter part of my summer will involve me raiding the summer sales to get the last summer pieces to take away on holiday with me!

White linen trousers are a summer staple for me; they’re incredibly versatile as they can be dressed up or down and go with so many pieces in my wardrobe. To me, white linen trousers symbolise the summer and my wardrobe would not be complete without them- I buy at least three pairs from Evans every year! They are always a fantastic fit and wash really well, which is important if you wear them as much as I do. Evans have a couple of variations of linen trousers this year, but I’ve chosen the White Linen Mix Trousers because they’re perfectly balanced between casual and dressy. These linen trousers would go really well with a bright summery top like the Turquoise Shirred Print Top which is one of my favourites out of the collection.

Another one of my favourites pieces is the Black Embellished Crinkle Cotton Maxi Dress which is very flattering, particularly around the bust. It is one of those dresses that can take you from daytime to a night out. This would look great during the day with a cropped denim jacket, some simple accessories, an across the body bag and flip flops and for the evening, skip the jacket and go for some jewelled sandals, statement jewellery, a clutch bag and perhaps a bolero for those who would prefer a little more coverage on their arms.

I also love the Postcard Motif T Shirt which is great for casual days out and because of the curved hem, it is long enough to wear with black leggings. For a chic festival look, I would accessorise with a bag worn across the body, some oversized sunglasses or perhaps a cowboy hat or straw trilby.

No summer would be complete without a gorgeous swimsuit. I have already bought this from my local Evans and can tell you first hand that it is a great fit and does wonders for giving my body some shape. The Floral Twist Swimsuit is available in two bust sizes which is a rare godsend for bigger girls like me that don’t necessarily have a big bust to match. I went for the standard cup which was the perfect size and the fit is just amazing. Perhaps that’s down to the halter neck. I love the floral pattern on the bust and how Evans have kept the main body of the swimsuit plain black- this should divert attention away from my tummy which is my problem area and up to the upper part of my body."

What do you think of my top picks?  Have I chosen on-trend items or am I way off the mark?  What are your favourite pieces from the Holiday Shop?

WhatLauraWore: The Night With 4 Bottles Of Wine

Hello Everyone I hope you're all well.

Today I thought Id share with you an outfit I wore on a night out recently with my friend Kristina.  We didn't plan to go out, it was all very last minute, one Friday night.  I called her and asked what she was up to and we decided to have a couple of drinks in town.  I flew through to the Metro Centre an hour before it closed and by the time I got back I had an hour to get ready and put on my new top.  I didn't have anything clean to wear or time to wash anything so I was really grateful to find something in Evans that night.  The top that I picked is this navy sequin longline top, available at Evans for £39.50.

Although its described on the Evans website as navy, it looks quite purple in real life.  They also had a cream version but it was too see through for me.  I loved the style of this, its different to anything else that I have in my wardrobe and I love the silver detailing and the mix of buttons at the front- it makes it glitzy and glamorous before you've even added accessories.  On the hanger, the top said that it was supposed to have a crinkle effect which I have since ironed out as I prefer it that way.  I wore this top as more of a dress and teamed it with leggings to slim down the outfit after the chiffon frill detailing at the bottom of the top.  I wore flat black pumps and silver accessories.
