The Weekend Edit #3: Business Trip Beauty Snapshot

I've been away for three days this week on a business trip in Manchester and it was on the last night that I thought it would be a good idea to whip the iPhone out and take a quick snap of the beauty products I took with me.  I packed light but I took all of the essentials and more, after all if I'm going to be staying in a hotel by myself then I may as well use the time for a bit of a pamper.

Good Things, Insette, Ickle Bockle containing Clarins, Etat Pur, Dove, Sanctuary Spa, more Good Things and Clarins, Dirty Works
First up, lets take a look at skincare and toiletries.  As you can see, I try to take travel or sample sizes with me where possible and when I can't I use an Ickle Bockle to decant some of my favourite products into.  These are great as the packs come with a variety of different bottles inside with pump action, twist lids and squeezable bottles, they're a must have for travelling!  The one in the photo above has my straight forward, no fuss cleanser in which is Clarins One Step Water Purify Cleanser that I use with some big cotton pads (pictured below) from Superdrug to take off my make up at night and to freshen up my face in the morning.  After using this cleanser, I take another cotton pad and sweep some of the Sanctuary Spa Coventry garden Instant Hydrating Toner over my face.  This is a pore refining toner for refreshed radiant skin and it works really well, gentle but effective at removing excess oil, any last bits of make up and deeply cleaning and tightening pores.  I picked this little bottle up ages ago in Boots and I've used it so many times on over night trips as a little goes a long way, I'd definitely recommend it.  After cleansing and toning, I've been applying the Clarins Hydra Quench Intensive Serum Bi-Phase which is designed for dry skin types but works wonders on my oily skin in the wintertime as it provides just the right amount of moisture to my skin and when used with an oil free moisturiser, it works a treat to keep my skin soft and hydrated when its freezing cold outside.  I took two moisturisers away with me and used both up fully while I was away. First was the Good Things Miracle Mattifier Moisturiser which was a little sample I got in a goody bag at the Leeds Blogger Meet Up 2012. It has superfruit extracts of blackcurrant and goji berry and works really well to moisturise my skin whilst keeping it shine free.  At home, I'm using three new products from Good Things that I'll be reviewing soon as they've been a big part of my skincare routine recently.  Another hydrating moisturiser that I got at the same meet up was the Etat Pur b20 Oil Free Quenching Fluid.  This one did a great job at moisturising my skin but it did seem to leave a film on my skin so I find this one to be best used at night.   My eye cream of choice while I was away was the Good Things Bright Eyes Eye Cream which is an anti puffiness and dark circles eye cream containing superfruit extracts of raspberry and lychee, it's great and in such a little tube, I love how travel friendly it is.  To finish off my business trip skincare routine, I pop on a bit of the Body Shop lip balm in watermelon (pictured in the last photo) just before I go to bed and I wake up with soft, hydrated lips.

Superdrug, Arm and Hammer, L'Occitane, Gok Wan, Ickle Bockle containing Herbal Essences, Wisdom
Moving onto my body, the Dove Maximum Protection cream deodorant with pomegranate and lemon has been keeping me fresh whilst trekking across the city to get to my meetings.  It's very similar to the Sure one and performs just  as well but I was able to pick it up at half the price of the Sure one and if the same offer is on the next time I'm shopping, then I'll certainly do the same.  When in the shower, I've been enjoying having a full body scrub in a bid to keep my skin scale free during this cold weather.  My scrub of choice has been the Shower Scrub with Almond Oil from a Gok Wan gift set I received for Christmas.  This little gem is lovely when used on damp skin, away from the flow of water from the shower head.  I used it all up whilst I was away and followed up my scrub with the L'Occitane Cherry Blossom shower gel which is a delight to use.  Keeping the skin on my body soft and supple post shower has been the Dirty Works Supreme Creme Body Butter which I got in their Mini Marvels Christmas gift set.  I adore this body butter and used it all up during my trip.  It's thick, deeply moisturising and a lovely treat to use on a cold winters night, especially with all of this snow that has hit the UK this week!

Keeping my teeth pearly white has been the Arm and Hammer Advance White tooth paste which makes me feel as though I'm brushing my teeth with sand, so I certainly wont be repurchasing.  My travel tooth brush of choice is this little Wisdom one with a tooth brush cap from Savers.  These are great at stopping any dirt or little bits from getting caught in the bristles of my tooth brush when in my wash bag.

For my hair, I've been wearing it up with a bun ring so lots of blonde hair grips and hair bobbles were essential on this trip, as was the Insette Clubbers Extra Hold Hair Spray which was purchased more for its size than its quality.  It isn't anything special, it does the job but it's a great travel size so I always opt for this over other hairsprays when I travel.  When it came to washing my hair, I didn't have a mini size product to take with me so I reached for another Ickle Bockle and decanted a couple of washes worth of the Herbal Essences Seductively Straight shampoo which I'm not actually too fond of.  I'll use up the full size bottle of it that I have but I'll certainly not repurchase it, unlike their Breakage Defender Intensive Mask which I'll ALWAYS repurchase- I love that.

Gok Wan, Fresh, Lancome
My handbag staples whilst I've been away have been the awakening Fresh Sugar Lemon roll on fragrance and the Gok Wan Hand Cream with Rose Oil which came in the same gift set that I got the shower scrub in and I'm absolutely loving it.  Another handbag staple was this lipstick which is about as dark and deep as I tend to go when it comes to winter lip colours.  This is 301 Rose Subtil from the L'Absolu Nu Sexy Nudes Lipstick range at Lancome.  I love the formulation of these lippies as they're so hydrating and glossy with a lustre finish.

The Body Shop, Collection 2000, Clinique, NYX, Sheer Cover, MAC, No7, Elf, Estee Lauder, Keromask, TIGI Bed Head, Sigma
Moving onto the make up goodies I took with me and you're faced with a flawless face, with soft pink cheeks and a rosy lip from the lipstick I showed above.  For my base, I opted for the Clinique Pore Minimiser Instant Perfector in Invisible Light and the NYX Stay Matte but not Flat liquid Foundation in 03 Natural which I apply using the Sigma F80 Flat Top Kabuki Brush- every girl and her dog seems to have this foundation brush but it really is that good.  I apply a dusting of the Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Powder with a big powder brush from TIGI Bed Head, contour my cheeks with the MAC Matte Bronze I know and love on a Keromask brush and apply a pop of pink to my cheeks with the No7 Natural Blush in Candy Pink using another Tigi Bed Head brush.  I line my eyes using the Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Eye Pencil in 01 Onyx and then coat my lashes with the Sheer Cover Extra Length Mascara in Brown/Black.  Finally, my brows are held in place using the Elf Eyebrow Kit that I got recently after having a Celeb Brow treatment at my local salon.

So that's all of the products I took with me.  Looking at it now, the list of products seems quite extensive but size wise, they all fit in my glossy black FCUK Toiletry Bag and I used them all while I was away which shows they were definitely necessary!  I'm definitely one to pack all of the essentials but in a travel sized fashion when I go away as I don't like to be without my products!

What are your travel essentials?

  1. Travel sizes and samples are ideal for a trip, as they leave you with just enough for the trip. The pampering sounds like a good idea, as you don't want to be all business, you might as well make the most of the trip and even treat it as a mini break.
