What would you like to receive in a Valentines Hamper?
Today I thought I'd put together a gift guide to help YOU make some wise decisions when gift buying this Valentines Day. There'll be two parts to this, the Valentines Day Hamper filled with items you'll find on the high street and the designer edit.
Girls, if you're reading this, pop the link to this post over to the one you love with the subject: HINT, he'll thank you for it and come Valentines Day you'll be thanking him for it too when you unwrap the perfect gift :)
First up is the Valentines Day Hamper Gift Guide which would make the most perfect Valentines Day present EVER...
So when choosing a gift for Valentines Day I think it's really important to get something thoughtful for your special lady. When I'm giving a gift to Mr WLL for Valentines, I like to combine bought gifts with something handmade as I find that that shows the most thought. I didn't want to show any of the handmade gifts that we've given each other in the past as I like to keep that part of my life private and separate from my blog but I'm sure you'll be able to think of lots of handmade gifts that you could make. Now onto bough gifts.
Valentines Day Hamper
One idea that I would like to give you for Valentines Day would be to put together a hamper full of her favourite things. This is my idea of the perfect gift as it is handmade so it shows how much thought and time you've put into it, it is completely customisable and you can make it to suit your budget. I've put one together here with girly items I had in my home to give you an idea of what you could include.
Making the Hamper
So you'll need something to put the gifts in and I find that a wicker basket is perfect for this. I got this one ages ago for my birthday off Mr WLL and it was filled with bathbombs and smellies from Lush.
Once you have your basket, pop in some tissue paper. I chose to use pink as I'm not a huge lover of red but just pick whichever colour you think she would prefer. I got this tissue paper in a pack of three colours from Asda for about 99p.
Filling the Basket
Ok so here's the fun part. Fill the basked full of treats for your girl. I'd suggest chocolate as an addition to the basket here but I don't have any in the house as I'd end up eating it for the sake of it!
Whether you're someone who chooses a card for the picture or the words, make sure you write something sweet inside. Tell your girl how much you love her, make it memorable as it will be something she can keep forever, long after she's enjoyed some chocolates or burnt a candle. Mr WLL and I usually make a card for each other so that's another option for you too.
If you're more of a gore or action film buff then make this the one day of the year where you treat her to a slushy romantic comedy film like Friends With Benefits. Play and Amazon have some great deals on DVDs so I'd recommend checking them out as that's where I buy all of my films from.
Forget diamonds, candles are a girls best friend. I honestly don't know a girl who doesn't enjoy burning candles and allowing the scent to fragrance her room. Yankee Candles from places like Collectables and Clinton Cards are some of the most popular candles around and you're bound to find one that she'll love the smell of. The one above is the Pink Dragonfruit candle and it smells amazing! My favourite candles are from Bomb Cosmetics. They come in tins and jars and often have little hearts in the wax, super cute and perfect for valentines day. Check out my review of a couple of them here and here. Don't just focus on the smell though, try to find one in a colour that would match her room too.
Ted Baker Phone Case
This phone case is a really cute gift as it is a little snippet of high end high street luxury, packaged really nicely. I've had this one for quite a while now but similar cases are available, including the new bow design which I LOVE, from House of Fraser or you can buy direct from the Ted Baker website. If your girl is into technology then also check out their iPad cases which are equally as gorgeous.
Skincare is a great option for a valentines gift as it is so widely available and providing you choose the right products, it will make your girl feel so special. I've chosen to include the Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream which comes in a 30ml jar from Debenhams and a Love ETC... body lotion from The Body Shop which can also be purchased in a cute gift set. If you know her skin type or can take not from the creams she already has then I'd suggest popping along to a counter and getting her some facial skincare, if you don't then stick with skincare for her body.
Make up is one of those gifts where, if done correctly, you'll hit the nail on the head and she'll love you for it. A few products I've popped in the basket above are the Real Techniques Blush Brush which is available from Boots and would make a great gift combined with a blusher in a shade that she likes to wear, a MAC eye shadow in Seedy Pearl which has a frost finish (these are great if you want to get a really wearable shade and a piece of mid to high end make up without breaking the bank) and is available from Debenhams and House of Fraser and I've also included a colour changing Mood Swing lipgloss from Too Faced in Petal Pink which is available at Boots.
Denman D3 Kiss Brushes
Forget roses, this is a great way to buy your girl a gift that she can use over and over again. This Valentines, Denman have released a new kiss design of their classic D3 Brush which is available in saucy red, sexy black and romantic pink. I have the romantic pink brush and I absolutely love it. It's a slightly blue toned light pink handle with silver glitter and silver kiss lip print all over it. The brush even features pink bristles. This is the ultimate girly memento for valentines. I featured a Denman D3 brush with another design on WhatLauraLoves last year so if you would like to read more about the type of brush itself then check my review out here. Read enough and ready to buy? Then head on over to the Denman website to purchase the brush for only £7.52. A selection of Denman brushes are also available from Boots, Superdrug, Sainsbury's and John Lewis.
Watches and Jewellery
Jewellery and watches like this bling little number from Seksy, available at Debenhams, H Samuel and The Watch Shop, make the perfect valentines gift. Whether she likes something plain or full of sparkle you're bound to find her the perfect piece if you shop around a bit.
Wine and Chocolates
Whether your girl is a drinker or prefers the non alcoholic variety (I'd really recommend this Asda Extra Special Rose Grape Non Alcoholic Spritzer, if that's the case), a bottle of something fizzy will help to bulk up the hamper and give her something she can enjoy perhaps while looking at everything else in the hamper. The same goes for chocolates and they don't come much better than Thorntons and Hotel Chocolat. A really cute idea would be to make your own home cinema tickets and put them together with the chocolate, wine and DVD for a movie night at home on Valentines Day.
Hunter Boots and Welly Socks
Now hold your horses before you think I'm going all silly on you by suggesting Hunter Wellies and Socks but just think how cute a present this would make if you were to take her on a walk in the countryside on Valentines Day? Point made.
Without getting all X-Rated on you, some women would really appreciate some nice undies. This beautiful baby doll and knickers are from Ann Summers and the bra and knicker set is from the Cleo range at Panache which is available from Simply Yours.
So that's it for my Valentines Day Hamper Gift Guide. I'll have the designer edit up shortly but for now, for other ideas on what to do for Valentines Day and to enter my latest giveaway, check out yesterdays post here.
