When I've had a good work out at the gym, I like to use products that cool me down, make me feel invigorated and relax my muscles. I change up my products frequently as I'm testing out bits for my blog but I finally think I've settled on the coolest most invigorating quartet yet!
The gym that I go to is at the leisure club of a hotel chain so I'm lucky in that the shower and changing facilities are what you would expect of a higher end leisure club rather than what you usually get at the local gyms in my area. They have private shower and changing facilities both with plenty of space, proper hair dryers and well lit mirrors for make up which makes going to the gym before work an enjoyable experience rather than a rushed one as I do get to take my time getting ready and have a little pamper session, meaning that I leave the gym in a presentable condition, rather than a quick change and out the door scenario that I used to experience at my previous exercise establishment! That being said, the products that I've got here would definitely be suitable for any gym changing facilities, except perhaps the scrub... I'm not sure how generally accepted it is to crack out a body scrub in shared showering facilities!
Speaking of showering, lets jump right in with the first of my after gym pick me ups...
Original Source Mint and Tea Tree Shower Gel
Original Source make the best budget shower gels around and I think the Mint and Tea Tree scent is one of their very best. I use this in the shower right after I've completed my work out and it really keeps me awake and gives me a boost. It is cooling and incredibly minty fresh. It gives you that zing and invigorated feeling. I'd really recommend it.
Available for £1.19 from Boots.
Kiko Detoxifying Elastic Scrub
When it comes to body products, I like to find rare gems that not only make my skin look good but make me feel good too. The Kiko Detoxifying Elastic Scrub does just that. As a scrub alone, this is perfect as it is gritty and abrasive which ensures that my dry skin is a thing of the past, but as a product itself, I cannot fault it. The packaging is gorgeous, the green and blue colours on the box and the sturdy green pot make me feel chilled out when I look at it and the Smurf blue scrub looks fresh, purifying, invigorating and perfect for use on summer skin.
To use this at the gym, I tend to turn the shower off after I've used my shower gel to clean my body, hop to one side and wait for my skin to dry off a little. I've found that this works best the drier the skin is to begin with so I've often used it before using going under the water and using the Original Source Shower Gel as well, it all depends on how dry my skin is. I then start to work the Kiko Detoxifying Elastic Scrub all over my body in circular motions to stimulate microcirculation. I really make sure that I work the scrub over my dry areas quite harshly and I give my legs in particular a deep tissue massage with this scrub. It feels very thick and quite tacky, as though it actually is elasticated and the smell is incredible, very spa like. The scent of this scrub alone chills me out and makes me feel relaxed. Once I have rinsed this scrub off, my skin is left feeling smooth and baby soft. I've found that the products that I use following the application of this scrub are absorbed much more easily than when I use them without exfoliating first.
Available from the Kiko website for £12.90 for a 300ml tub, this is definitely one I'd repurchase.
Kiko Light Legs Crackling Mousse
The Kiko Light Legs Crackling Mousse is like popping candy for the body and I absolutely love it. It comes out just like a regular mousse that you would usually pop on your hair but it immediately starts crackling on contact with your skin. I squirt a generous amount into the palm of my hand and quickly apply it to my legs from my ankles upwards to my thighs in sweeping strokes. My legs instantly feel cool and revived which is a welcome feeling after I've been doing a lot of cardio in the gym. The crackling sensation continues for quite a while, even after the product appears to have dried down. It is a great but strange experience and one which I really enjoy. The crackling seems to make my legs feel even cooler and the sound takes my back to my childhood- not only is this an effective product to use but it is fun too. I was actually quite surprised at how soft this left my skin. Don't get me wrong, the softness isn't ground breaking but my skin does feel moisturised after I have used this which I wasn't expecting as I usually associate mousses as being drying products.
This is also a good product to use if you suffer from water retention or tend to do a lot of walking as it really helps to promote draining and has an anti-swelling action. I use this at home if I've been on my feet and out and about all day as my legs tend to feel heavy after such activities. I pop this on and lie down for ten minutes or so and it really makes my legs feel light weight, more relaxed and relieved. Like with the Detoxifying Elastic Scrub, the Light Legs Crackling Mousse smells incredible- very floral and uplifting.
This is available for £12.90 from the Kiko website. The can is only 150ml which I don't find lasts a particularly long time but I am completely in love with it so I would absolutely repurchase it in the future.
Arbonne Cooling Foot Creme
The last step in my current after gym routine is the Arbonne FC5 Cooling Foot Creme which contains fresh kiwi cell extracts. This is a great little pick me up to pop on tired feet whether you've been going for gold on the bike or running on the treadmill. The cream is super light weight and quickly absorbs into the skin which I love as it means that I'm not hanging around for ages while it sinks in. This cream isn't intensive enough to soften very hard skin but what it will do is provide your hot, tired feet with some welcome relief. It smells minty fresh and leaves my feet feeling cool, hydrated and refreshed.
The full size of this lovely foot cream is £20 and is available here.
So that's all of the products that I currently use to pick me up after a gym session. Of course I use other products like shampoo, etc but these are the ones that I find really help to relax my muscles and keep me feeling refreshed! I'm on the look out for a new gym bag and I've seen an awesome one on the Jack Wills website so when I've got it I'll do a whats in my gym bag post too.
