Winter Skincare Additions- Weleda and Burts Bees Reviews

This week, I have been blogging about some of the new additions to my winter routine and boy did I have some greats to share with you.

Today I'll round up the week by sharing which products have made the cut into my facial skincare this winter and letting you know how I'm using them, then you can always have a click back through to the other reviews to read an in-depth account of each product.

I don't know about you, but to me, the winter has really come around quickly.  It's only just hit November but I've already got the heating on full blast, more or less 247 so needless to say, I'm dreading the bill coming through.  All of this cold winter air mixed with the heat of my radiators causes my skin to be in need of an injection of moisture without clogging my pores and causing my oily skin to go into overdrive.

The Balance Me Cleanse and Smooth Face Balm (review and buying info here) has been an absolute saviour for my skin.  I use this at night before following up with a spritz of the Balance Me Skin Bright Hydrating Face Mist (review and buying info here) and a generous amount of the Gatineau Age Benefit Integral Regenerating Cream (review here, buy here) to really layer on the moisture.

I then move onto focusing on two more sensitive areas that require a little closer attention- the lips and eyes.
For the ultimate moisture burst this winter, I've been using the new revitalising Burts Bees Blueberry and Dark Chocolate Lip Balm which is simply delicious.  Like with the two Balance Me products I reviewed in the links above, this lip balm is 100% natural, making it a real treat for even the driest of lips.  Simply slather on before bed like I do and wake up to beautifully soft and hydrated lips in the morning.
It is packed full of natural butters, oils and waxes that deeply nourish the lips and keep them feeling softer for longer as it doesn't all sink into the lips straight away, instead some of it sits on the lips for continuous hydration.  That's the beauty about beeswax and as I try more Burts Bees products, I am really beginning to see more and more how much of a wonder ingredient it is as it helps to lock in moisture and continuously hydrate the skin (see my review of some more burts bees products here).  This new lip balm is considered to be like superfood in a tube as it contains lots of natural nourishment as well as the perks of dark chocolate and blueberries that are rich sources of antioxidants.

The Burts Bees Blueberry and Dark Chocolate Lip Balm is available from the Burts Bees website for £3.69 and also from Feel Unique.

The eye area is another sensitive area that requires careful attention and for that I've been using the Weleda Wild Rose Smoothing Eye Cream.

If you're looking for an easy to use eye cream that can be used morning and night, during the winter and all year round, then the Weleda Wild Rose Smoothing Eye Cream is for you.  It contains wildrose seed oil, peach kernel oil and almond oil which are there to strengthen the skin's natural protective barrier and give it extra nourishment, thanks to its essential fatty acids.  It also contains Eyebright (euphrasia) plant extract that has a soothing effect on the skin and is therefore great at reducing bags and puffy eyes.  It also contains extract of sedum which helps to ease irritation around the eyes too, which is great if your eyes tend to be a little sensitive, although a patch test is always recommended first.  Oh and it's perfectly fine to use this if you're a contact lens wearer too.

So, what do I think?  Well, I like to keep this in the fridge for an added cooling effect on my bags first thing on a morning.  I use my ring fingers to smooth a little into the contour and skin around my eye and find that it sinks in pretty quickly, leaving the skin around my eyes looking hydrated and feeling soft.  The bags under my eyes don't look quite as severe after using this and my eyes aren't irritated after use.  For me, it's a winner!

The Weleda Wild Rose Smoothing Eye Cream is available direct from Weleda for £14.95 for 10ml and also from Feel Unique, Look Fantastic and Boots.

That's my round up of the latest additions to my winter skincare routine done and dusted for the time being.  I'm currently testing out some face masks so I'll report back on those once I've given them a thorough road test.

Do let me know if you have any other recommendations for me- I really want to treat my skin this winter!

  2. Great post! It's always interesting to see what people do when the weather changes. I tend to be a bit of a snob about skincare, but there is always one thing I will never change: The Burts Bees lip balm. Love it! I do have some samples of the Weleda and I'm going to try them out. BTW, the idea of putting it in the fridge is great.
