The festive season is a time where most people go out more than they usually would at night. They spend hours getting ready, get super dolled up and pile all of their make up into their bag before heading out into the night.
Once you're out on a night out, who knows where the night will take you- I know I have had a few wild nights in my time and it is best to be prepared. After several years of festive seasons, freshers weeks and bank holiday weekends, I have come to the conclusion that its not just make up that you need in your clutch, but essential pick me up items too, to refresh yourself through a long night out or to breath a bit of life into yourself if you end up staying out all night. When I was in my teens I used to go out with a big group of girls and we'd always go back to one of their houses for drinks after town and end up staying over, so its nice to have some things to refreshen up after a party.
These days, I tend to wear super long lasting make up and just pop my lipstick, together with some of these essential pick me up items in my clutch. I wanted to put together this post to give you some suggestions of some essential pick me up products that I have discovered over the festive season that you could put in your clutch for the year ahead.
|Avene Eau Thermale Spray*, Collection Glam Crystals*, Manuka Doctor Lip Enhancer*|
When it comes to filling up your clutch bag, if you're someone who suffers from dry skin, or if your make up can tend to look cakey if you repowder too much during the night, then I'd suggest the Eau Thermale Avene Water Spray to revive your make up look throughout. This is a skincare staple product that is loved by stars such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Sophie Dahl and Angelina Jolie and whilst it doesn't promise movie star looks, it will be soothing, anti irritating and create a dewy look on the skin.
The handy 50ml aerosol spray is great for spritzing on the go and will fit perfectly into your handbag. It is also good for spritzing your face the morning after the night before, once you've removed all of your make up, to really refresh the skin. I'd also recommend taking a can of this on holiday with you as it is perfect to cool you down around the pool or after a hard days sun bathing!
For a full review of the Avene's Water Spray, you can read my blog post from many moons ago if you like and it is available to buy here.
Collection Glam Crystals Dazzling Gel Liner
The Collection Glam Crystals are a great way to instantly glam up your evening look, say if you've been out for what you thought was just going to be a sophisticated meal that turns into cocktails on the quayside until the early hours. There are 14 shades of this glittery gel available and they're so easy to apply.
Simply use as a liquid liner to add sparkle to a plain eye look or apply over eyeshadow for a bold glitter effect. I have the colour Funk which is a gold glitter. On its own it is quite subtle and you can get away with it during the day too but over black eyeshadow or black liquid liner, its sparkle really comes out to play.
Pick up your own from the Collection website, Superdrug or Boots.
Manuka Doctor Lip Enhancer
To perfect your pout throughout the night, Millie Mackintosh's favourite lip balm, the Manuka Doctor Lip Enhancer, is a great option. Wear alone to keep your lips feeling soft and plump all night, or apply over a lipstick for a glossy finish. It is a hydrating lip plumper infused with Purified Bee Venom, Manuka Honey and Hyaluronic Acid to boost the volume of the lips in five minutes flat, whilst preventing the signs of premature ageing and enhancing the shape of the lips.
I'm a huge fan of Manuka Doctor products and this one from the ApiRefine range hasn't failed to disappoint me! It has an active moisturising formula that is designed to strength, tone and rejuvenate the lips, giving them a smooth and plump finish that really does last all day long. You can find this on the Superdrug website and in store.
|Trilogy CoQ10 Eye Recovery Concentrate*, Murine Bright & Moist Eyes*, Denman D14 Diamante Gold Hairbrush*|
Trilogy CoQ10 Eye Recovery Concentrate
The Trilogy CoQ10 Eye Recovery Concentrate is a great option for your skincare bag, let alone your clutch. It is a serum in a rollerball that feels so cooling when applied to cleansed skin the morning after the night before. The silky smooth formula is designed to increase the firmness and reduce the fine lines around the eyes. It is fragrance free too so it wont irritate the skin.
What makes it great for your clutch is that it can actually be used over make up for a little added moisture and to stop the eye area from creasing and looking cakey. It has a brightening effect too so if you sandwich this onto your skin after you've cleansed, then apply your make up, then the eye roll on again you'll see the brightening effects.
Simply roll on, pat in to blend and you're good to go. Buy here.
Murine Bright and Moist Eyes
The Murine Bright and Moist Eyes is a product that readers of WhatLauraLoves from back in the day may remember me reviewing on my blog (here). These eye drops are the perfect pick me up for tired party eyes that can end up looking dull and feeling dry and uncomfortable by the end of the night. These drops soothe the eyes and leave them looking bright and feeling moisturised, which is perfect if you've been out for a long time and especially if you've been wearing contacts.
Denman D14 Diamante Gold Hairbrush
The Denman D14 Diamante Gold Hairbrush is the perfect size for your handbag as it is small but doesn't compromise on brushing power as it works just as well as a full sized brush. Used alone, or with the Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk (buy here) spritzed through the roots for added texture... or for a quick clean the next day, it works really well to revive your style and to keep you looking put together.
Also available in the medium D3 size, the brush is a gorgeous matte gold shimmery brush with diamantes pressed into it. I love taking this out with me on nights out as it is equally as good at backcombing the hair as it is at brushing through the hair, smoothing it as it goes.
You can pick up one of your own here.
