My Top Valentines Nail Polish Picks

With Valentines Day coming up, I'm busying swatching suitable nail polishes left right and centre in a bid to find the PERFECT colour to apply to this year.  I wanted to share my musings with you all as I think there's some beautiful colours here.

The polish over there on my pinky is the Seche Nail Laquer in Snapdragon which is the only pink in my Valentines bunch.  It is a very vivd Barbie pink but with a creamy appearance to it, it isn't florescent.  This is the only Seche Nail Laquer I've tried- not even the much raved about Seche Vite Top Coat- and I've really impressed with it because it applied effortlessly and dried quickly.  I could have easily left it at one coat as it was super opaque but I gave it a second coat as that's what I was doing with the other polishes here and I wanted to give you all a true comparison between them.  The handle is easy and comfortable to hold making it simple to apply and the brush itself is a standard sized brush, comparable to Models Own.

Seche Nail Lacquer in Snapdragon*
It remained chip free for one whole week without a top coat which I was over the moon with.  I usually apply a top coat for a glossy finish rather than to extend the life of my polish but the finish of Snapdragon is so glossy that I didn't need to.  I found that it was so easy to remove too which is half the battle when applying nail polish and it didn't stain my nails, even without a base coat... naughty of me I know.

The Seche nail polishes are great for your nails because they're free from DBP, Toluene and Formaldehyde.  Snapdragon is available from Look Fantastic as well as SO MANY other Seche shades!

Collection Lasting Gel Colour in Red Hot*
The polish on my ring finger is the Collection Lasting Gel Colour in Red Hot.  This has one of the 'Easy Wide Brush' brushes that remind me of the 'Xpress' brush that comes with the Rimmel 60 seconds nail polishes and the Maxi Brush on the MeMeMe polishes, the former I love to use to apply polish but the latter I really didn't get along with as you can read in my review here.  The Collection brush sits somewhere between the two, it isn't as easy to use as the Rimmel Xpress which is literally one swipe and go as it has rounded edges but it isn't as sloppy and hard as the MeMeMe offering.  I do like it but it isn't my favourite brush.  That aside, the polish is GORGEOUS.

I've really been getting into reds this winter and that hasn't stopped at lips as I've started to delve more and more into red nail polishes too.  This one, is a true pillar box red colour- it's not too dark and its not too bright either, it is just a proper red.  This is the first of the gel style formula polishes that I've tried from Collection and I'm really impressed.  It applies effortlessly, dries pretty quickly although it does remain tacky for a little while after application and it lasted a good five days without a top coat before I had to take it off and reapply.

The Collection Lasting Gel Colour in Red Hot (and the collection polishes in general) is the most purse friendly offering from my Valentines picks at only £2.99 from Superdrug.

Nails Inc. Gel Effect Polish in St.James*
The middle polish there is the Nails Inc. Gel Effect Polish in St. James which is available on Look Fantastic.  This is the first gel effect polish i've ever tried and whilst it doesn't last as long as a gel manicure at around six days, it has the glossy appearance that gel gives and I love the way that it looks.  The high gloss finish is thanks to the Plasticiser Technology that is designed to give your nails a shiny salon finish every time you apply it.  There is no need to cure the polish with a UV light like normal gel so it is quick to apply too and the drying time is really quick, much faster than the standard line of Nails Inc polishes.

St James is a very traditional red colour that is bold and sexy, perfect for Valentines.  I could have easily left this polish at one coat but adding a second layer gives a more vibrant, punchy effect.  I must say that St. James isn't too dissimilar to the Collection polish above in Red Hot.  It is perhaps one or two shades lighter than the Collection polish in natural light but it is so similar, even down to the finish so if you're watching the pennies, I'd save your money on the Nails Inc and just buy the Collection offering.

Collection Gothic Glam Nail Polish in Dramatic*
The polish on my index finger is the gorgeous Gothic Glam Nail Polish from Collection in the colour Dramatic.  The formula of the polish is quite thin so it definitely needs two or three coats in order to bring out its full potential but when that is achieved, the colour is beautiful.  This is the perfect polish for autumn and winter and is a great way to add a subtle colour to an all black outfit.

Dramatic is a plum red shade that is deep and dark with a shimmer running through it that gives it this burnt appearance.  I found that this polish took a little while to dry compared to the other Collection polishes that I've tried over the years but I think it is to do with the shimmer in it as I find that with all shimmer polishes.  What I love about this polish is that it is super easy to remove which is brilliant for me because I love to get my polish off quickly as it bores the life out of me sat there rubbing at my nails!

The Collection Gothic Glam Nail Polish in Dramatic is available here.

Collection Lasting Gel Colour in Vixen Red*
The last polish over there on my thumb is the Collection Lasting Gel Colour in Vixen Red which makes an incredible wintertime polish and would be so lovely worn with an all black or burgundy outfit.

The photo above shows the polish at two coats; I think it could have done with three in order to make it fully opaque.  The colour is gorgeous.  It is a very deep and dark red with an ever so slight berry tone to it.  It dries pretty quickly, lasts for around five days without chipping and removes effortlessly.  This polish definitely gets the thumbs up from me!

The Collection Lasting Gel Colour in Vixen Red is available here.

So that's all of my Valentines Day nail polish picks.  I think the photo above really shows the similarity between the Collection Red Hot and Nails Inc. St. James, dontcha think?

Do let me know which is your favourite.
