WhatLauraWore: Hair Stylist Work Wear

Today, I am posting the first in a series of blog posts giving you work wear inspiration.  All of the looks will work well for smart-casual days out clothing ideas too but I am calling them work wear looks as they each have an occupation in mind.
The look I have put together today would be ideal for a hair dresser, or even someone working in a small office or a call centre.  It was inspired by my best friend who is a super talented hair stylist and salon manager.  Her salon has an all black dress code so she likes to accessorise with pops of colour for her journey to and from work, especially if she is meeting friends in her lunch break or going out straight after work.  This look is comfortable, casual and easy to wear so that you can be on your feet all day but still look put together and smart.
The top that I'm wearing is the Cold Shoulder Jersey Top from Fashion World.  I have the black one but it is also available in cobalt, hot pink and tangerine which are all gorgeous colours.  It is true to size and holds its shape really well.  I like the cut out shoulders as it helps to keep me cool which is something you need if you're in a stuffy office all day.  Whilst I'm wearing this here as a work styled outfit, it would work equally well with jeans and flats for a day shopping or skinny jeans, heels and some pretty silver accessories for a night out.
I've never worn a cold shoulder top before as it isn't a style I felt particularly drawn to which was exactly why I picked this top to review.  I like to try out new styles and items and I really enjoyed wearing this top.  If you're someone who needs to wear an all black outfit to work (hairdressers in my city all tend to wear black, for example), then I think this is a really good way to stick to the dress colour code but to wear something a little different than a plain black t shirt.
The jacket that I'm wearing is the Black and White Dog Tooth Jersey Jacquard Jacket from Yours Clothing.  I am absolutely in love with this jacket and I haven't had it off since I got it.  It is so comfortable to wear whether it be over a maxi dress or with a top and trousers like I'm wearing it here.  It is lightweight but still keeps me warm and it doesn't crease when I'm wearing it sitting down either which I really like as I've had little jackets in the past that have creased so badly that they look awful after the first wear.
I also like how the jacket has shoulder pads, giving it a little structure and a more fitted look but it is worn open as it doesn't have a button fastening, which is a look I personally prefer.  That's because I'm much larger around my middle and smaller up top so if I had to fasten a jacket, it would end up being much bigger on my shoulders which wouldn't look good at all, so an open style like this is perfect for me!
I paired the jacket with some tapered leg jersey trousers from Next.  These are super comfortable, I absolutely love them.  I picked them up last year in black, navy and white and I've worn them so often, yet they still look as good as new.
To complete my look, I'm wearing some of my staple accessories that go with almost anything.

Studded bow flats from Primark
Louis Vuitton Speedy 30 in Damier Azure bag
