Charles Worthington Volume & Bounce S & C Review

To say I like my hair to look BIG would be a total understatement.  The bigger the better in my opinion and it all starts in the shower as it is almost impossible to create volume in your hair if you've used products to wash it that weight it down.

Charles Worthington Volume and Bounce Shampoo and Conditioner Review
Two products that get your volumised locks off to a great start are the Charles Worthington Volume and Bounce Shampoo and Conditioner.  I've been using them for the last month, including sharing them on holiday with one of my besties, and now that I'm coming to the end of the bottles I thought it best that I share my thoughts on them.

This shampoo and conditioner duo can be used by anyone but they're ideally suited to those with fine to normal hair.  My hair is definitely on the fine side of things but I do have a lot of it.  My hair is very greasy at the roots too and drier at the ends, particularly as I have highlights and lowlights in my hair and subject my hair to a good dose of sunshine as often as I can which again dries it out.  What I like about this shampoo and conditioner from the outset is that they don't dry my hair out at all.  Generally volumising shampoos and conditioners have a habit of being drying and thats how they add the volume to your hair but these don't at all.  I would be fine with products drying out my roots but not the ends as I don't want them to get any drier than they already are.  So if you have dry hair but you want to add some volume to it then I would definitely recommend these as I don't think they will dry your hair out further in order to add the volume.  Plus this duo are safe for colour treated hair so they won't strip the colour out of your dyed locks and it won't dry it out either.

Charles Worthington Volume and Bounce Shampoo*
Both the shampoo and conditioner are collagen enriched which is designed to create volume and bounce in the hair.  The shampoo aims to enhance the body within the hair and leave it feeling fuller to the touch.  It definitely does this.  You use it in just the same way as you would any other shampoo.  I find that it doesn't lather up as well as some other shampoos that I have tried but don't let this put you off as it is working and it does a great job at cleansing the scalp.  If you don't have a lot of product build up on your hair then its fine to just shampoo the once however I've found that if you have a lot of product on your hair, perhaps from a night out, then I'd suggest shampooing once to remove the product and then once to clean the hair.  My hair is left feeling clean without being squeaky and straw like after using this and when I've tried it out without using the conditioner afterwards, it does definitely give my hair touchable full body.

This duo works the best when you use the conditioner alongside the shampoo and the two together are definitely suitable for daily use whereas a lot of conditioners weight the hair down and can only be used from the mid lengths to the ends, this one can be used all over, as often as you wash your hair, as it doesn't weigh the hair down or make it more greasy.  The conditioner itself aims to add volume from root to tip and to give the hair an over all thicker appearance and again, it doesn't disappoint.

Charles Worthington Volume and Bounce Conditioner*
What I liked the most about the conditioner is that it smooths the hair, particularly at the ends and throughout my layers, and leaves it feeling silky soft but yet it doesn't make the hair feel heavy or oily, it just gives it this touchable, soft feeling body in the hair.  I sometimes leave this on for a few minutes while I'm in the bath as a bit of a mask and it makes my hair even softer.  When massaging the conditioner into my hair it has this plumping effect and the conditioner itself seems to expand in my hair.  I'm not sure if that makes sense but my hair seems to get bigger as it lathers up!

When your hair is wet, if you towel dry it and then blow dry your hair with a round brush, you'll create the most volume in it, especially at the root, however if you leave your hair to dry naturally and then just blast it off with the hair dryer just before it is fully dried, you'll find that your hair will still be voluminous and bouncy and you've avoided having to use too much heat on your hair.  It is worth noting that both the shampoo and conditioner contain a heat protecting conditioning complex to protect your hair against the damaging effects of heat drying and styling.

Even if I leave my hair to dry completely naturally, I find that it has more volume through the mid lengths than it would have done had I not used this shampoo and conditioner.  This is what I'm aiming for at the moment as I'm really trying to let my hair grow out and not using heat on it is something that will help this.

The body this shampoo and conditioner creates is long lasting and to lock in the volume at my root, I simply give it a quick spray of hairspray.

The shampoo is available here and the conditioner here, where you can save a third off the price, meaning that you can get them both for a ridiculously low price of £3.99 each for 250ml bottles which will last you a long time.  I took these away on holiday with me for me and my friend to use and the bottles fitted really nicely into my toiletries bag as they're quite flat.  The only issue I have with them is that as the packaging is quite plasticy (that made up word I'm sure you'll all have used before!) it can make getting the product out a little difficult when you come to the end of the bottles but that really is just me nit picking.

  1. Not tried these or any s&c from Charles Worthington though I've used a lot of the styling products. I have been using the L'Oreal Elvive Fibrology s&c at the moment and love it. Definite improvement in the volume and bounce in my hair and I think the big bottles are often on 2 for £7 in Boots xx
