WhatLauraWore: Hen Night Cocktails in Dr Feelgoods

Many of you will know that I've just got hitched to my lovely Mr WLL and as promised, I am going to share some wedding planning/party posts with you.  As part of my bridal celebrations, I had a bridal shower thrown by some of my close family friends and also a hen night that I organised with my bridesmaids.

For my hen night, we went to Dr Feelgood's Liquor Emporium, Tapas and Terrace late on a Saturday afternoon for cocktail making.  Most of us had been to Dr Feelgood's before as it is known in the area for being top notch for quirky cocktails in an environment reminiscent of a ye olde curiosity shop.  As we arrived, we made our way to the bar to order a cocktail before taking a seat in one of the huge booths.  I ordered my favourite, the Cherry Bottle Rocket which combines Midori melon liqueur with Amaretto, cranberry juice and lime, served in a swing top bottle that smokes thanks to the dry ice inside.

Once everyone arrived, the cocktail making was ready to begin.  I'd never been to a cocktail making master class before, despite drinking many concoctions in my time but we all quickly got the hang of it.  First we each had a glass of prosecco with raspberries while our Olly Murs lookalike cocktail master ran through proceedings before bringing us a tray over for a quick but lethal game of shot roulette.

After a quick demonstration, full of euphemisms I wouldn't care to repeat in polite company, it was then time for each of us to venture onto the other side of the bar to make our own cocktails.  The first was a mojito which isn't usually a drink I care for however as traditional measurements were off limits and I could chuck a few sweet strawberries in there, I was left with a sweeter mojito that I gave a good thumbs up for my efforts.

For our second cocktail, we were able to choose anything that we would like to make off the cocktail menu, before another game of shot roulette.  Having sampled the majority of the cocktail menu already, I wanted to stick to my favourite and decided to make the Cherry Bottle Rocket again while many of my friends opted for drinks ranging from a Bubblegum Daiquiri to a Cookie Monster.

If you're looking for something fun to do for a hen night then I would highly recommend going cocktail making and if you're in the North East then definitely give Dr Feelgood's a try as it was such good value for money and everyone enjoyed it.  We spent about three hours there in total and left with faces of accomplishment as we totted out to begin the next part of our evening clutching our cocktail master class certificates.

The night was young and we were met at the door of Dr Feelgood's by a white hummer limo from Millennium Limousines to take us to another city in the North East where we drank champagne and cocktails until the small hours.  My bridesmaids had organised lots of traditional hen party decorations for me to wear from a sash to a tiara and veil and even a printed 'Mrs X' bag.

My outfit of the night featured one of my favourite dresses in my wardrobe, the Strapless High Low Hem Dress in Menthol from Simply Be.  You may have seen this outfit on my Instagram page as so many of you liked my photo when I posted it- thank you.

The Strapless High Low Hem Dress is one of those beautiful, show stopping pieces that needs a memorable event to be worn to.  It is a stunning mint green colour that looks epic with a tan and it has a swirly gold foil print all over it.  It has a sweetheart neckline and can be worn strapless or with the detachable, adjustable straps.  It also has a gel like strip inside at the top of the bust which helps to secure it to your body so it wont slip down.  The dress is lined to the knee and has a glamorous sheer dipped back.  It looks so pretty.

Usually when I'm wearing this dress, I opt for the nude wedges that I featured in this post but for my hen night, I wore some nude and diamante sandals from Primark because I knew I'd be walking on cobbles and didn't want to risk any broken ankles so close to the big day.

For jewellery, I chose some earrings and a bracelet from Mikey and a chain necklace from a small boutique near to where I live.  My bag is from Ted Baker.

Simply Be have a massive sale on at the moment and there's loads of bargains to be had, especially on gorgeous party dresses for nights out this summer.  I'd recommend checking out VoucherBin! before you place your order online at Simply Be as they have some really good special offers.  I love getting money off my order when I shop online but I hate having to search the internet for the best discount codes whereas with Voucher Bin they're all in one place.
