When I first discovered that Missguided were launching their own plus size clothing range, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. I have long lusted after their fast fashion, confident and edgy styles and literally dreamed that it would be available in my size, now it is!
The Missguided+ range is currently available online, shipping internationally, in UK sizes 16 to 24 and I couldn't be more impressed with it. The line is very much an extension of their regular range which is everything a plus sized girl wants. As a curvy plus, I want to be able to wear fashion forward pieces that my smaller friends love the look of and styles similar to those that they can get for themselves in a size 10 and that is exactly what the Missguided range has. If you would like me to show you some more of my most lusted after pieces from Missguided's plus size line in another post then do let me know but for now, I'll share with you my most worn dress this winter.
The burgundy Plus Size Crushed Velvet Skater Dress is the most beautifully versatile dress that I have had in my wardrobe this winter. Everything about this dress from the skater shape to the opulent crushed velvet material make it the perfect piece to be dressed up or down which was what made it the ideal piece to pack in my suitcase when travelling to Liverpool for a mini break to celebrate my masters graduation. We stayed at the amazing Titanic Hotel which has to be one of the best places I've ever stayed in and it was perfect location to wear my new dress.
The burgundy colour of this dress is the hottest colour this season and one that I had lusted after for months. I had seen so many clothes available in standard sizes with this beautiful hue but few were available in plus size and none as gorgeous as this dress. I literally squealed when I saw it!
I've always been told that Liverpool girls are very much like those from my neck of the woods in Newcastle, as they like to dress up and always look put together so I considered my wardrobe carefully for my trip. We were away celebrating and I wanted to look my best! I picked this dress because I thought it would look fabulous for dinner at night worn with peeptoe heels and some thick black tights to keep out the winter chill but I also thought it would look great dressed down for wearing about town.
The day that I wore this dress was on our first full day in Liverpool. We headed down to the Christmas market to enjoy a glass (well, paper cup!) of mulled wine and then headed down to the docks for The Beatles Story. Until our visit, I didn't know much about The Beatles, making me a pretty inadequate Brit as they are a big part of British pop culture and history. Now I know a lot more about them, have a deeper appreciation of their music and think that the madness of One Direction fans has nothing on The Beatles; they created the original hysteria! I'd highly recommend a visit if you're travelling to the area as the museum is very engaging.
There's also lots of classy bars around the area that we popped into for a couple of glasses of fizz and I felt neither overdressed in the exhibition or under dressed in the bars wearing my crushed velvet dress; it was the perfect fashion choice for my day out.

I found that my wool coat with leather sleeves from The White Company (similar here) was the perfect outer layer for this outfit because it looked super stylish whilst still allowing the gorgeous crushed burgundy dress to be the main focus. For extra warmth, I layered up with my new blanket scarf and although it quickly sold out, you can find plenty more styles here. I absolutely adore the oversized look and bought this scarf in particular to take with me when I travel so that I can also use it as a blanket which is quite possibly one of my best ideas as it is SO warm.
What I loved the most about the dress, aside from the colour, was the length because it wasn't super short. Having a large tummy like mine always causes problems when wearing shorter dresses as it tends to make everything come up shorter. What was once intended as a knee length floaty number can all too often end up looking decidedly micro and quite frankly, I'm not into baring my bottom in public!
With this dress, I didn't need to worry about the length at all and I would happily wear it out with or without something covering my legs. In this case, I opted for some black leggings purely to keep me that little bit warmer when walking the length and breadth of Liverpool in December!
On my feet, I wore the new boots that I got to wear for my graduation as they're really sturdy underfoot and very comfortable to walk a long distance in, as well as keeping my feet dry in the puddles that appeared throughout the day. They are the Copper Smart Buckle Ankle Boots from Office and I couldn't be more in love with them. While they do come in a standard leather, I opted for the black patent leather as I thought that it looked really classy and made the boots appear that extra bit special with the quilted back panelling and against the gold buckle.
I wore these boots for the majority of my trip and have worn them countless times since. They're easy to pop on thanks to their short style and inner zip and they are very comfortable to walk in. Their small block heel makes them feel a little more dressy but ensures maximum comfort and I can honestly say that they haven't pinched or rubbed once. This is great news for me as I hate having to break in new shoes! Office currently offer free standard UK delivery which I will definitely be taking advantage of in the future as I am so impressed with these boots!
When you're wearing a dress with a colour as beautiful as this one, I think it is really important to choose accessories that compliment the hue well as anything clashing could really ruin the outfit. I had ordered this burgundy floppy hat a couple of weeks before receiving the dress and I think they were made for each other. I've really got into wearing hats other than bobble styles this winter after being inspired by many fashion bloggers online and my friend Gemma after a shopping trip in Manchester. The lippy I'm wearing was actually one of her recommendations too and it matches my outfit superbly well; the Revlon Colourburst Balm Stain in Crush.
The earrings that I'm wearing were the ideal find the day before our trip too. I was wandering through Miss Selfridge in House of Fraser and spotted them on their Diva jewellery section. I can't for the life in me find them anywhere online however there's a similar (and equally beautiful) pair here. Gold is the perfect metallic to pair with burgundy as it is equally as warm toned so if you're wondering what kind of jewellery to wear with a statement dress like this, then I would opt to pick something from a similar toned colour palette.
Gold accents were also the reason why I chose my Mini Mac bag to carry with me. I had a small selection to choose from as I wanted a bag that could be worn in multiple ways during the day or at night and this bag ticks all the right boxes. It can be worn across the body, over the shoulder with a long strap or as a short shoulder bag or the straps can be removed so that it can be worn as a clutch. If you'd like a post on the different ways to style Rebecca Minkoff bags then let me know.
I absolutely love this outfit and I must admit that I have re-worn it so many times this winter but I'm a firm believer that if you find an outfit that works well for you then there's no harm in wearing it multiple times! Thanks so much for all of your support on my social networks about this outfit too as so many of you have said how much you like it!
