WhatLauraWore: Curvissa Holiday Shop

Curvissa Holiday Shop

Before we begin, let's just address the elephant in the room... the white bra.  A nude one would be so much better as this top is quite see through but I'd just got back from Morocco when I took these photos and everything was in the wash!

Now that that's out of the way, lets hop into the blog post!

I have been challenged by Curvissa along with Zoe, Naomi, Emma and Charli to style an item from their Holiday Shop.

Curvissa Holiday Shop

I picked out the Love Top by the brand Beachtime.  Although I've just got back from Morocco, I've already booked my next holiday so I definitely picked this piece out with that trip in mind.

This is a vest top shape with a round neckline in a white, almost mottled print.  Down the centre, theres 'love' written in colourful, artistic writing.

The top is thin, light weight and perfect for holidays in warm climates.  I think that it is a little too see through for wearing back here in the UK but on holiday over a bikini, it would be perfect.

I ordered my usual size (22/24) and found that it was true to size and very comfortable to wear.  It would look equally as good if I had sized up for a more relaxed, oversized fit.  Overall, I'd give this top a 3 out of 5 as it is perfect for summer holidays over a swimsuit but it is a little too thin and see through for wearing back home in the UK.

I paired my Curvissa top with a sleeveless open cardigan, my wardrobe staple jeggings and slipped on my peeptoes. For accessories, I added some gold bangles, a statement necklace and one of my most used bags.

WhatLauraWore: Dressing My Curves In Curvety

IGIGI by Yuliya Raquel Lindsey Dress in Raven Illusion on the Curvety

When Mr WLL has time off work, we always plan lots of date nights together and days out.  Not only does that signal lots of fun but lots of outfits too and as always, I like to plan these in advance.  I just seem to feel lots more settled when I know what I'm wearing.

Dresses like this are perfect for evenings out, especially when you're in a rush to get ready as they're such a statement piece, they do all the talking themselves.  Simply pull them on, add some heels and some volume to your hair, grab your clutch, slick on your lippy and you're good to go!

IGIGI by Yuliya Raquel Lindsey Dress in Raven Illusion on the Curvety

As soon as I saw the IGIGI by Yuliya Raquel Lindsey Dress in Raven Illusion on the Curvety website, I knew that it would be perfect for dinner and drinks along the quayside in Newcastle.  It has become one of our favourite locations to head to mid week as it is quiet and perfect for couples looking to chat over a nice meal and a couple of drinks.

I love the monochrome colour scheme of this dress and the way that the black and white pattern on the bust adds an extra shape to the dress.  The bust of the dress is really eye catching and I love the flattering deep V neckline with the wrap over.

Being sleeveless, this dress looks great when worn alone or with a cardigan, shrug or blazer/waterfall jacket for warmth or to cover up your arms if you don't want to show them off.

IGIGI by Yuliya Raquel Lindsey Dress in Raven Illusion on the Curvety

The dress is elasticated at the waist for a really comfortable fit with a tie belt that you can either tie at the front side, at the back like I have or remove completely.  Personally I like to keep mine at the back to not add more bulk to my side.

The skirt falls beautifully in an A Line Shape and on me, at 5ft 5" it hits right at my knee which is an ideal length to look flirty but still sophisticated and classy, especially when paired with black heels and a clutch.  A splash of colour would add a fun edge to the outfit, perhaps for a night out with the girls whereas I preferred to keep it more simple with black accessories and silver jewellery.

black clutch and heels

I ordered mine in a UK 22/24 and I would say that it is true to size.  The garment is made of a stretchy jersey fabric that does hug your curves.  I don't mind this at all as I'm sick of trying to hide my shape.  I'm embracing the body I'm in and loving the results!

This is the first dress that I've tried from Curvety and I'd definitely be happy to order from them next time I'm looking for a date night summer dress!

WhatLauraWore: My Personal Style & Plus Size Jumpsuit

WhatLauraLoves Simply Be Plus Size Jumpsuit Cobalt Blue

I love clothes, dressing up and the way that feeling pretty on the outside makes me feel on the inside.  Its nothing to do with the influence of others and it certainly isn't for anyone else, its purely about how I feel in myself.

Over the years I've toyed with different outfits and since the winter months, I finally feel as though I've settled into my own personal style and there's starting to be some continuity to the style of clothes I'm wearing and whats hanging in my wardrobe.

I can look at something from afar and think, thats something I'd wear and feel great in and I know how I'd style that to work for me.  There's lots of pieces out there that I love the look of but I don't think they'd all work for me or be something I'd feel comfortable in.

I'd say my style is a balance between girlie and glamorous, and comfortable and practical which is exactly what this jumpsuit is all about for me.

WhatLauraLoves Simply Be Plus Size Jumpsuit Cobalt Blue

I wore my first plus size jumpsuit last year for my birthday night out and its taken a long time for me to find another one that I love just as much, if not more.

When I was picking out clothes to take away with me to Morocco, I came across this floral leafy print jumpsuit and instantly knew that it would look amazing not just on holiday but throughout the summer too.  It all comes down to the shape as it is elasticated and slightly gathered at the waist which makes it more flattering on the stomach.  The material is a stretchy jersey which makes it feel so comfortable to wear and move around in, especially when dancing, but it holds its own too without being clingy.

WhatLauraLoves Simply Be Plus Size Jumpsuit Cobalt Blue

I love that it has thin, adjustable straps and that the neckline and back aren't too low at all, they're literally the perfect height as it stops at the top of the bust so it isn't too revealing and it doesn't come down very low at the back or under the arms either.  Simply Be are getting it SO RIGHT right now with their summer collection the shapes and prints are to die for and some of my favourites that I've seen.

I tried another jumpsuit on from a different brand before I went away as the back was so low you could see my bra straps and the arms on the side were so low as well which I don't think looks very flattering on me at all so I had to send it back.

WhatLauraLoves Simply Be Plus Size Jumpsuit Cobalt Blue

I have a summer holiday lookbook coming up where I'm wearing this jumpsuit as I loved it that much, I wore it twice while we were away and wore one of the other dresses I'd taken for the evening out during the day instead!  Its so versatile and while the bold black and white print on it speaks for itself, it is easy to change up your look as you're wearing it by simply pulling your hair up into a high bun for an edgier look to how I'm wearing it here with big bouncing waves thanks to my Foxy Locks Extensions and Enrapture Totem Styler which is my favourite hair tool- ever, for a more glamorous look.

There's an orange plus size jumpsuit available in the same print too that I'm so tempted to buy but it was the cobalt blue that stole my heart.  It is such a universally flattering shade.  I was going to wear my black waterfall jacket with it but as it was such a lovely summers evening, I could skip it.

WhatLauraLoves Simply Be Plus Size Jumpsuit Cobalt Blue

I wanted to show you all how I would wear it and style it when at home as well as abroad so here it is.  I'm off to dinner and cocktails for my friends birthday here and I've paired it with some black wedges that are almost flatforms and my Chanel WOC which is my favourite bag in my whole collection.  Mr WLL gave me it as a gift for our anniversary and Valentine's Day and I feel so lucky to have it as I'd admired it from afar for so long.

Theres silver hardware on my bag and chain so I kept my jewellery silver too with a sparkly watch, bracelet and earrings.

WhatLauraLoves Simply Be Plus Size Jumpsuit Cobalt Blue Chanel WOC

The legs on this jumpsuit are quite wide and ever so slightly flared so I think that together paired with some platform shoes is a subtle but welcome nod to the 70s.  These ones are from Primark last summer and they do have some that are very similar in stock this year.  If you're looking to order online though, I'd recommend checking out these ones from River Island and New Look which are similar and affordably priced at around £20 each.  I've bought numerous pairs of shoes from them in the past and they've always been comfortable and hard wearing.

Comfort without compromising on style is whats great about this kind of shoe as you're getting the height from the platform but your weight is evenly distributed on your feet so you can wear them for a long time without your feet hurting.  I don't know how I used to walk in stilettos now!

Black wedges from Primark (very similar from New Look and River Island)

Ways to Switch Up a Monochrome Wardrobe

Ways to Switch Up a Monochrome Wardrobe

It wouldn't take a regular reader of my blog to notice that I love wearing colourful clothes.  My school uniform was all black aside from a crisp white shirt which more or less represented the way that I felt about my school days perfectly.  From the moment I left, I embraced colour as much as I possibly could.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not a walking rainbow but I really appreciate how wearing colour can really bring life to an outfit.

Sometimes though, the occasion doesn't call for a lot of colour and some people just don't like to wear colourful pieces which I do appreciate.  I get lots of messages from girls that love the monochrome look or prefer to wear neutrals so I thought I'd share with you my thoughts on how to change up your wardrobe while still sticking to an all black or a black and white theme.

I love the way that black and white work together; it is the ultimate pairing that looks fabulous on everyone and is ALWAYS in fashion.  That doesn't mean you have to stick to plain pieces though and today I'm going to show you how you can switch up a monochrome wardrobe to include pattern, print and colour!

The fastest way to change up a monochrome wardrobe while still keeping your black and white colour scheme is to inject a bit of pattern into your closet.  Tribal, aztec and kaleidoscope prints are big during the summer months while florals and polkadots are adored all year round.

Ways to Switch Up a Monochrome Wardrobe

Take these trousers for example.  They're smart but have a great floral rose design on them that works equally as well for daytime as they do for night.  As the block colour on the trousers is black, with the flowers in white, they're super flattering and very bold.  They're in a textured, stretchy material too which makes them so comfortable to wear and the slim leg is uber flattering, especially if you have a large tummy like I do.  I have to buy trousers to fit my stomach which often means that they're super wide on the legs whereas these are a really good, tapered fit.

By injecting a pattern into your wardrobe you can stick to black and white but still add a bit of extra life and soul into your outfits.  While I've paired bright items with these trousers here, I've also been wearing them with a top similar to this one and my black waterfall jacket on colder days for a smart and sophisticated monochrome look.  A statement necklace instantly takes this outfit from day to night and something in a silver tone works best in my opinion.

Ways to Switch Up a Monochrome Wardrobe

If you want to add pattern to your monochrome wardrobe but without such a stark bold contrast as there is between the super dark black and bright white of the floral trousers, then I'd suggest a piece like the Warehouse Dial Print Coverup* from House of Fraser.  This is essentially a kimono from their holiday shop however it can be worn at home as well as when away on holiday.

Ways to Switch Up a Monochrome Wardrobe

The great thing about this piece is that although it is monochrome, it is more muted; the white is more of a neutral, natural hue so it doesn't provide so much of a bold contrast against the black which is ideal for those that don't want anything too in your face.  As the gorgeous detailing on the kimono is so intricate, it really is a beautiful piece to look at and will transform an all black outfit.  I think that this cover up in particular would look fantastic over black skinny jeans and a black cami, heels and a long necklace for a night out.  For holidays, it would be equally as suited to popping on over your bikini while at the pool as it would be to pairing it with white linen trousers and a black vest top for supper at a beach side restaurant.

Ways to Switch Up a Monochrome Wardrobe

My final suggestion as to how to change up a monochrome wardrobe would be to add contrasting accessories like in this post here where I added some of my favourite coral pieces to a work wear outfit.

If you're wanting to dabble in colour, this is the perfect place to start as you can go as bold or as subtle as you like from wearing a grey item right through to neons!

Do you like to wear a lot of colour in your wardrobe or do you prefer an ultra stylish monochrome look?

Collection Illuminating Touch Brightening Concealer Review

Collection Illuminating Touch Brightening Concealer Review

If you're looking for a concealer to brighten, highlight and illuminate while still providing coverage then you simply must try the Collection Illuminating Touch Brightening Concealer.

It is a 3-in-1 product that you can use as a quick fix to correct imperfections, highlight and illuminate the skin in record time.

I've been using this for the last couple of years and I wouldn't even like to hazard a guess as to the amount of times that I've repurchased it.

Collection Illuminating Touch Brightening Concealer Review

It is available in three different shades- natural, naked and glow.  This is the natural shade.

It comes in a twist up pen with a brush on the end that makes it really easy to apply.  You can either twist it up, put some on the back of your hand and then apply in swirling motions with a small fluffy brush like a MAC 224 for a light application or apply the product directly to your face.  This is my preferred method of application.

For every day use, I apply some under my eyes and blend it in with my Zoeva concealer brush.  However when I am going on a night out, I really like to go to town.  I apply it in a downwards triangle shape under my eyes and down towards my nose, then I apply some on my cupids bow, a little along my nose, fanned it out onto my forehead and some on my chin.

It does feel a little drying and it has a matte finish.  However it doesn't settle into the fine lines under my eyes which is a problem area for me as I'm getting older.  I love the way that this blends effortlessly into my foundation and skin.

Collection Illuminating Touch Brightening Concealer Review

This concealer does exactly what I wanted the YSL Touche Éclat to do, but it didn't.  The Touche Éclat is fairly brightening under my eyes and reflects light pretty well but when I have dark circles, I don't find that it doesn't conceal them or correct the colour, it purely highlights.  The Collection Illuminating Touch Brightening Concealer, however, does everything.  It is absolutely amazing at concealing dark circles and has a very brightening effect under the eyes.  When used on other parts of my face, it highlights excellently, better than any other highlighting concealer I've used.

The concealer has a thick consistency, although not as thick as the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer that I like to use on blemishes.  I wouldn't use the Illuminating Touch Concealer on blemishes as it is too brightening and I feel that it would reflect the light too much which may draw more attention to the blemishes, although it would greatly reduce the redness from spots.

This concealer is also a great product to use on your skin if you have any redness that you want to cover.  Annoyingly, I caught the edge of my jaw with my curler the other day and once it had settled, I applied some of this concealer to the red mark which lightened it and set it with a little bit of powder and it covered it completely which I was really pleased about.

Collection Illuminating Touch Brightening Concealer Review

I would highly recommend the Collection Illuminating Touch Brightening Concealer and you can pick up your own for £4.99 here.

    WhatLauraWore: Airport Travelling Outfit

Plus Size Airport Holiday Travelling Out

When I'm off on holiday, my holiday begins on the day that I'm travelling not when I arrive at my destination.  I like to get everything that I need to get done by the day before we're travelling and then I like to switch off.

The night before a trip I usually have a pampering bath, a nice meal and a good nights rest.  Then I wake up on the day of our flight and I think of that as the start of my holiday.  I've become quite anxious of flying in recent years, I'm not scared of flying at all but I've become very claustrophobic and quite wary so I find that getting into a routine really helps me to relax before I get on the plane.

I always take time planning my outfits before I travel, you all know what I'm like by now, and the same goes for my airport outfit.  I like to be very comfortable when I'm going to be sitting on a plane, regardless of how long its for, but I also like to look nice and put together too.  We often go in the airport lounge before our flight and they often have a comfortably smart dress code so I do keep that in mind when choosing my outfit too.

Lime has been my colour of 2015 without a doubt.  For some reason this year I have been all about the lime shades and I don't think that'll change anytime soon.  When I saw this oversized lime top in Yours Clothing, I immediately took it to the changing rooms to try on.  Despite having to size down a lot as it is very oversized, I loved it immediately, especially when paired with the black and white floral trousers.

Plus Size Airport Holiday Travelling Out

This look was something out of my comfort zone but it felt so right to try something new.  I love how comfortable it feels to wear but how on trend it seems too.  When paired with my uber comfortable flip flops, I knew this would be the perfect outfit to wear to the airport for my journey to Morocco.  It always baffles me when I go to the airport and I see ladies tottering around in sky scraper heels.  Literally baffled every time.

Its sods law that all of these pieces are in the sale now when I paid full price for them!  You can bag the lime top for only £11, the trousers for only £16 and the flip flops for £10, although sizes are limited with the sandals.

If you spot anything on the Yours Clothing website that isn't in the sale then you can get some money off your order by entering my code WLL15 at the check out for 15% off (for new customers only).

The bag that I took with me was my Longchamp Le Pilage large shopper that I got last summer in the coral colour.  This one is new this season and is very similar.  It doesn't match my outfit in the slightest but I don't actually have a large black bag that I could have used as my hand luggage bag.  Whenever I travel I either use my Monogram Speedy 40 or this Longchamp bag and to be perfectly honest, I usually decide which one I'm going to take based on where I'm staying when I'm on holiday and who I'm going with.  The Speedy holds A LOT but it isn't particularly light to carry and it is hard to organise anything in there as it is just one big compartment, plus its nearly £600 worth of bag so if I'm going somewhere where I think my things will be secure in the room and Mr WLL is there to carry my bag, then I'll take my Speedy with me (I have a bag neck so can't carry heavy things, I'm not being a princess I promise!) but when I need to carry my bag myself or when I'm unsure whether the place I'm staying at has a large enough safe to fit my bag in, etc then I take my Longchamp one.  Like the Speedy, this is just one large compartment inside too with a little pocket but when I'm travelling on my own, I don't usually carry much, just the essentials and a travel pillow which takes up a lot of room!  If you're looking for a hand luggage bag then I'd really recommend either of these.  A lot of the time when I travel with Mr WLL, I take a small handbag too to keep our tickets etc in separately to my Speedy.

My essential item to wear for travelling has to be a scarf.  While they look effortlessly chic, they also double up as a lovely blanket for use on the plane.  Not only does this keep me warm but it gives me comfort too to be snuggled up in something while I'm on the plane.  The scarf I'm wearing here is one of my favourites from Gucci.

Vichy Ideal Soleil SPF 50 Face Sun Protection Review

Vichy Ideal Soleil SPF 50 Face Sun Protection Review

On my recent holiday to Morocco, I turned to Vichy for my facial sun protection.  They're a french pharmacy brand who are the best of the best when it comes to skincare.

If you're like to look after your skin, want to protect your skin from sun damage and from premature ageing then why not choose a brand that is known for both their high performing skincare and sun protection?

Vichy have introduced their Ideal Soleil range this summer which adds high UV filter protection to a range of suncare products that are designed for all different types of skin.  The Ideal Soleil line has different textures to suit different phototypes and skin types which means that you can find an SPF product to suit your skin rather than just picking a one size fits all style approach off a shelf like with standard sun creams.

The Ideal Soleil range is formulated with lots of skin loving ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid, Glycerin and Perlite, to help to hydrate, mattify, moisturise and revive the skin.

Vichy Ideal Soleil SPF 50 Face Sun Protection Review

Wearing an SPF shouldn't be reserved for hot beach holidays only and this line recognises that with its different formulations of creams, oils and sprays that are suitable for city living and visits, the beach or the ski slops.

The Vichy SPF products are available in SPF 30 and SPF 50 and contain a broad spectrum filter system with the inclusion of global anti- UVB and UVA protection Mexoryl XL and SX.  They were formulated with the latest advanced research in mind to protect wearers against UVB rays as well as the short and long UVA waves.  The latter of which have been found to penetrate the most deeply, making up 75% of all UVA rays that reach the skin and disrupting nearly 1k of the 28k genes that are contained within skin cells.  In the short term, they oxidise surface melanin which can lead to the skin looking dull and darkening with a greyish tint and in the long term, the damage started by the oxidative stress causes the dermis and deep epidermis to suffer the full effects of photo-ageing.  This can cause dark spots, wrinkles and loss of firmness, making the skin appear older than it is which I'm sure none of you want!

Vichy have designed the Ideal Soleil line with the whole family in mind.  It is suitable for even the most sensitive skin and can be used by women, men and children.  This is great news for me as when I'm going on holiday with my hubby, we like to share our toiletries and sun protection, rather than taking our own as it just adds to the weight of our cases.  While I don't have children yet, I can imagine there being so much stuff to take away with you on holiday anyway without having to carry extra bottles of sun cream for each family member so the fact that everyone can use the Vichy products is great news.

Vichy Ideal Soleil SPF 50 Face Sun Protection Review

The range consists of a 300ml Face & Body Milk in SPF 30 and 50, a 125ml Body Oil in SPF 20 and 50, a 50ml Velvety BB Cream in SPF 50+, a 50ml Velvety Face Cream in SPF 50, a 50ml Dry Touch Face Cream (Mattifying Face Fluid) in SPF 30 and 50 and a 100ml SOS Balm which is an after sun product.

While in Morocco, I was trying out the Mattifying Face Fluid Dry Touch and the Velvety Cream both in SPF 50 which I prefer as I like to use as high a factor as I can, especially on my face.

The Mattifying Face Fluid is designed for oily or combination skin which is ideal for me as on a day to day basis, my skin is very oily.  This SPF is water resistant so I found that it was an excellent option to use while I was on holiday as I would be in and out of the pool all of the time so my face would often be splashed.  It applies very smoothly and mattifies the skin as it absorbs.  The skin feels dry to the touch after application, not in a tight or uncomfortable way, just that you don't feel as though you've just applied a cream to your face.  It leaves the skin feeling soft and supple without looking shiny.  Personally, I'm not bothered about looking shiny when I'm around the pool but for days where we were out and about in Marrakech and going on trips, I really appreciated the zero shine finish.  Out of the two face SPFs that I have tried, this would be the one that I will continue using at home in the UK as makeup sits nicely on top of it.

The Ideal Soleil Velvety Face Cream was designed with dry skin types in mind but as you all know, I have super oily skin and this cream works incredibly well on my skin so I would say that anyone could use it.  Out of the two creams, this is the one that I used the most while I was away and the one that I finished completely (empties post coming soon!).  What I loved the most about it is how luxurious it felt on my skin; it was as though I was applying a moisturiser rather than an SPF and my face felt so soft and hydrated after using it.  This cream has a silky smooth texture and like the other Vichy face SPF I used, it absorbs quickly into the skin.

Vichy Ideal Soleil SPF 50 Face Sun Protection Review

Both of the creams include the Vichy Thermal Spa Water to help to moisturise and revive the skin which I do think they do.  The Velvety Face Cream is also enriched with Hyaluronic Acid which helps to bind moisture to the skin.  Out of the two, this one is probably my favourite, at least for using while I'm in a very hot climate as my skin can often feel dry from too much sun but my skin never once felt dry using this cream.  It felt soft and hydrated and looked smoother and more supple after use.  What I loved about both products is that they don't leave an oily or sticky residue on the skin after use, even after going in the pool.  Plus if I sweat, the product doesn't seem to run and irritate my eyes like some other face SPFs have in the past.

The combination of SPF and skin loving ingredients in the formula of these face SPFs is designed to protect the skin from the damaging effects of the sun and from premature ageing and to improve the skin quality with each use.  After using these for the two weeks that I was away, I can definitely say that they achieve what they set out to because not only did they prevent my skin from burning but now that I'm home, my skin looks fantastic.  It looks and feels so hydrated, moisturised and plumped up with a sun kissed glow.

I'd highly recommend the Vichy Ideal Soleil range for your next holiday or for if you're looking for a daily SPF.

The Vichy Ideal Soleil range is available online here and it is currently on offer!

Travel Beauty | Glamping Skincare and Makeup Essentials

Glamping Beauty Skincare and Makeup Essentials

Last week, I shared with you a review of the Shepherds Hut at the Bells of Hemscott that I stayed in recently with Mr WLL.

While I was there I decided to take some snaps of the beauty products that I took with me.

When I'm away, I don't like to scrimp on my skincare as it is really important to me to look after my skin.  I'm not so bothered about makeup but as we were going out for a nice Sunday lunch the next day, I wanted to take some makeup items away with me to be able to create a minimal makeup look that I thought might give you all some inspiration if you're off camping, glamping or going to a festival this summer.

Glamping Beauty Skincare and Makeup Essentials

To create the makeup look here, I used products that are lightweight, easy to apply and that give a fresh faced look.

I started with using a buffing brush to apply the Balance Me BB Natural Perfection that I reviewed in full here.  This BB Cream is a great option for when you're glamping because it takes very little effort to blend it into the skin.  It has a light weight formula with a little bit of coverage so it smooths out the skin and evens skintone while leaving a dewy finish.

For my dark circles (that are getting darker as I get older!), I used the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer which I applied using a concealer brush.  This concealer has been my favourite since I first started using it at the beginning of this year.  I have it in the shade Vanilla which is the perfect shade for me as it is a shade or two lighter than my usual foundation so it has a great brightening effect when used under my eyes.  This concealer is a little too light to use on blemishes, however I didn't have any spots when we went away so I didn't feel the need to take an extra concealer.

I like to use a fluffy brush and my much loved Collection Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Powder to set the BB Cream and to mattify my skin a little as I do have very oily skin.

I have been using this finely milled powder for years and years.  I wouldn't even like to hazard as a guess as to how many of these I've gone through but its an awful lot!  This is a fabulous powder that can be used alone or to set a foundation and it is very buildable.  It mattifies the skin and is incredibly long lasting.

I've used the Estee Lauder Double Wear Powder in the past and I would say that this is a very good dupe for it, albeit at a far lower price.  I love the new packaging of this pressed powder as it now comes in a compact with a mirror and a sponge for touch ups on the go.

Glamping Beauty Skincare and Makeup Essentials

To warm up my complexion, I used a MAC Bronzer that was a limited edition many moons ago, on an angled brush and then with a blush brush, I added a pop of colour to my cheeks with the Natural Collection Blushed Cheeks blush in Pink Cloud which is a classic drugstore shade that many people start off their collection with.

For my eyes, I actually ran some of the bronzer through my crease with a MAC 217 brush and added a slick of the Teez Desert Metals Mascara.  This is the one that I got in my You Beauty Discovery advent calendar last Christmas and its absolutely fabulous, very volumising and lengthening without making the lashes look clumpy and spider like!  For my brows, I used my Laura Mercier Brow Pencil in Soft Brunette which has a waxy texture to it so it seems to help my brows to control my brows slightly as well as adding colour to them.

To complete my look, I added a slick of the Maybelline Baby Lips Electro Lip Balm in Pink Shock.  This is the one and only Baby Lips that I have as when they came out I resisted the urge to buy them, thinking that I really didn't need another lip balm but having used it, I really fancy picking some more up.  For a lip balm, this is so pigmented and leaves the lips with a gorgeous pink colour that looks glossy and juicy.  It feels very moisturising and hydrating and is quite long lasting.  I'm really happy with this lip balm!

I also packed some hair grips (these are the best ones for blondes), a little jaw hair clip, a bow scrunchie and a floral hair band to pop in my hair to create different looks while I was away.  The flower garland was what I wore on my first day as you can see in the review of the glamping experience and it felt very boho hippy chic!

When I'm going on nights away, I like to save little perfume samples to take with me.  Perfume is very much my guilty pleasure, I have so much of it but I love to smell good!  These two are both by Chloe.  I already have See By Chloe as a full size perfume but after using Love Story while we were away, I really wanna get that one too.

When it comes to skincare and toiletries, I like to pack the essentials when I go away so that I can feel fresh and fabulous without getting a bad back carrying everything!

To keep my feeling clean and smelling fresh, I packed my favourite deodorant from Soft and Gentle*.  I've been using the deodorant sprays from the skin science range for ages now and I love how cool they keep me feeling no matter what I'm doing whether its a belly dancing class or walking in the country side.  This is the one in the blue packaging, known as 'Ultra Protect' which is designed to give you 72 hours of protections- great for if you're someone who is on the go often.  While I'd never not shower for that amount of time, I love having a deodorant that can protect my underarms for that long because I know it'll keep me feeling cool all day!

It smells lovely, very fresh and clean and not too feminine either which means that my hubby feels comfortable wearing this deodorant too so we dont have to take two bottles away with us.  The great thing about this deodorant is that it comes in a compressed can so it holds just as much as a regular sized deodorant but it is in a smaller more travel and handbag friendly size.  I love space saving products, especially when they're so affordable at just over £1!

You can purchase this deodorant here.

To keep my hair fresh while I'm away from home, I always take a can of Batiste* with me.  This is the Eden scent which is one of my favourites from Batiste because it smells so incredibly beautiful.  The scent is authentic, it doesn't smell synthetic or unnatural.  It is made up of fruity and floral notes of honeysuckle and sugar melon which are the perfect combination, especially for the summer but for all year round too as it isn't too sweet and it certainly isn't sickly either.  It smells feminine and very pretty and I love that the scent is long lasting in the hair too.

Batiste have really upped their game with their dry shampoo scents over the last couple of years and although I do try out other dry shampoos to review, the brand that I repurchase from time and time again is ALWAYS Batiste.  Nothing really beats its grease banishing formula, especially when you have such oily hair like I do.  I do like my hair but my major bug bare with it is how oily and greasy it gets, even after one day, which means that I wouldn't be able to go away for the night without either washing my hair while I'm away or taking a dry shampoo with me.  The latter is a much better option as it saves space in my bag, is a lot lighter and a lot less time consuming than having to wash, dry and style my hair.

With Batiste, I simply spray it into my roots from a distance, rub it in and then brush it through the lengths of my hair to leave it looking and feeling clean, volumised, refreshed and textured.  I can't recommend it enough which is why I talk about it so frequently on my blog!

It is available exclusively at Superdrug and I'd highly recommend picking up a can.

To remove my makeup when I'm away from home, I like to stick to a quick and easy micellar water and my favourite cotton pads.  This cleanser is from Bioderma and it is basically a cleansing water that you soak a cotton pad with and sweep it across your face.  It does remove the vast majority of my makeup, including stubborn eye makeup products, however if you then wash your face with a cream cleanser and a wash cloth or a face brush then you'll see that it hasn't quite got EVERYTHING off but as far as 'dry' methods go, this type of cleansing product is the best I've found.

Bioderma isn't my favourite micellar water though as since trying it, I've used lots of other similar products that I like more (for example, the L'Oreal Micellar Water) but it is good.  I've found recently that the Bioderma one has started to sting my eyes a little whereas there are others out there that do just as good a job at removing my makeup but that don't sting my eyes.

This is the 250ml bottle but there is a super travel friendly sized one available here at 100ml.

After removing my makeup, I moved onto using three moisturising products on my face starting with the Algenist Complete Eye Renewal Balm.  This is a deluxe sample size that I got from Space NK when they did one of those spend £150, get a bag full of samples offers.  The full size of this eye cream is quite pricey and while it is a joy to use, I wouldn't put it above my favourite eye product.  It is rich and creamy yet still very light.  It doesn't feel too heavy on the skin or make my eye area feel sticky or drenched in product.  It is absorbed relatively quickly and looks and feels very hydrating on the eyes.

To moisturise my skin, I used the Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream.  I have a few of these deluxe sample sizes lying around after receiving them as gifts with purchase.  I am sure you're noticing a trend here with sample sizes of products.  Whenever I receive a small sample size, unless it is specifically to review, I put it to one side and take it away with me when I travel so that I can use a high quality product while I'm away without having to compromise on the space in my wash bag.  The Elemis Marine Cream is quite heavy on my oily skin but it is very moisturising.  This is a fantastic cream to use if my skin is feeling particularly weather beaten.  I also took this away with me to Morocco recently and after using it continuously for two weeks, my skin was looking absolutely amazing.

The last product that I use to moisturise my face is the By Terry Baume De Rose lip balm.  This is a deluxe sample from Space NK.  I have been using it for the last month and it is still going strong.  Although this is very expensive to buy, I do think that it might be worth it in terms of how long lasting it is as a little goes a very long way.  It is incredibly moisturising and hydrating on the lips and although the full size is expensive, I would recommend it.

When the skin on my body is exposed to the elements, it can get dry very quickly.  While I didn't want to take a big bottle of body moisturiser away with me, I did feel it necessary to take an intense moisturiser with me to apply to my driest areas.  The Mary Elizabeth Spearmint and Tea Tree Nurture Balm* was perfect for this and since my trip, this product has become a staple in my handbag.

The balm itself is full of nourishing ingredients such as moisturising Shea Butter, vitamin enriched oils and beneficial Spearmint and Tea Tree Essential Oils.  It smells incredible and is so good at hydrating, moisturising and softening the skin without making it feel greasy.

The Nurture Balm comes solid in a tin and to use it, you simply unscrew the lid, swirl your finger around it to warm it up and then apply the product to any parts of your skin that you feel need an extra bit of nourishment.  That could be your nails and cuticles as it is great for helping to strengthen and grow the nails or on your hands to enrich them and protect them from the elements, on any areas of dry skin to moisturise them, on your lips to smooth and soothe them and for your feet and heels if they're feeling a little dry or are looking cracked!  I love that you can use it wherever and whenever you like, it is so handy!

I personally like to use it on my elbows, knuckles and wrist because I have a touch of psoriasis and I really need to keep these areas hydrated.  Anyone with a dry skin condition will know that you need to keep your most affected areas moisturised otherwise they can crack and become painful.  My psoriasis is aggravated by stress and staying away from home in recent years has started to induce stressful, anxious feelings so applying a balm like this is not only soothing for my skin but comforting too.

I'd highly recommend picking up a tin for yourself here.

At night, I like to smooth some hair oil through my mid lengths and ends and when I'm away, I like to keep this up.  That's why I took a sample size of the Ojon Rare Blend Moisture Therapy Oil away with me.  This is a three colour oil that you shake up to activate so to speak.  I use a few drops to smooth through my hair and find that it does help to smooth my ends, hydrate them and reduce their frizziness!

Before I go to sleep, I like to spray some of the This Works Sleep Plus+ Deep Sleep Pillow Spray onto my pillow and bed linen.  This is something that I do while I'm away from home too to relax me and help me to get to sleep at night.  This is the best pillow spray that I have found so far as I really find its gorgeous lavender scent relaxing, soothing and comforting, especially when I'm feeling anxious.  This is another sample size, I think that I got this one from a beauty advent calendar but again, I put it to one side for my travels!

So thats all of the products that I took away with me glamping recently.  It looks like a lot when I've written about it all here but it actually all fit into a standard sized wash bag.
