Top 5 Festival Fashion Essentials

Festival season is well and truly in full swing and with this 2015 Festival Guide, you can find out all about the best festivals to go to across Europe.  Its got everything you need to know about each festival covered from where and when they will take place to the music genre and line up and the number of people who tend to attend.

Deciding on what you’ll wear to a festival is almost as big a decision as deciding on which one to go to!  I love the relaxed, laid back, boho chic vibe that festival fashion has.  There’s something for absolutely everyone and so much choice available, especially online but my favourite thing is that festival fashion pieces lend them selves well to lots of occasions all summer long, especially beach holidays.

There are five key pieces that make up my festival fashion essentials and I wanted to share them with you today.

1. Keep your belongings safe in a throwback 90s bum bag

Starting with the bum bag.  When you’re at a festival, it is important to keep your personal belongings with you.  While I’m not suggesting you should take your most expensive pieces of jewellery with you, I think its fair to say that if you’re at a festival you’re going to have your mobile phone with you, some money or your bankcard and possibly a camera or your house keys.  None of these things are easy to replace while you’re at a festival, they’re quite expensive items and things that you definitely want to look after.  Rather than leaving them in your tent, pop them in a bum bag.  As it sits at the front of your body, it is secure to you and will be harder for naughty people to be able to dip their hand into to steal your things!

2. Cover up in a raincoat

You can enjoy yourself come rain or shine if you take a pac a mac style raincoat with you.  They’re incredibly lightweight and fold up so small that you could easily fit one inside a little bag or tie it around your waist.  Hooded styles are best so as to keep the rain off you if there’s a downpour.  I love that they’re available in so many different prints and colours.  My favourite has to be this one with flamingos on from Zalando. It is SO cute!

3.  Keep things short in shorts

No one wants to have their maxi dress or trousers trailing on the floor of a portaloo.  Keep yourself clean and dry by wearing a pair of shorts.  In short, they’ll ensure you’re cool on a hot day at a festival and you can pair them with just about anything.

4.  Give it some welly while you’re dancing!

When the sun is shining, they’re comfortable to stand and dance in for hours but it is when the heavens open that you really feel the benefit of wellington boots.  Glastonbury in particular is known for its mud baths after terrible down pours of rain and those wearing wellies are always much happier with their dry feet than those slipping around in flip flops.

This photo was captured by Neal Whitehouse Piper at Glastonbury in 2014 and I'm sure the people wearing wellington boots here are very pleased with their footwear choice!  I think that Glastonbury would be a great festival to go to because it goes back years.  You can read all about its history here.

5. Be squint free with some summer shades

Sunglasses not only keep the glare out of your eyes so that you can watch your favourite bands without having to shield your face from the sun but they look super cool too.  Whether you opt for a colourful, reflective lens or a super chic tortoiseshell, this is one summer accessory you can’t be without.

Whether you’re heading to a festival this year or spending your summer at other events, festival fashion styles can be enjoyed at any daytime casual outing from a BBQ on the beach with your friends to a trip to a theme park.

Of course to match your festival outfit, you need a quick and easy skincare routine and makeup look.  Worry not, I've got your back with this post.

I’d love to read what your festival fashion favourites are in the comments below!

  1. Love those raincoats! I feel like its inevitable to have bad weather during a festival. I got pretty muddy at the last one I went to, but luckily I was wearing an old pair of boots I didn't care much for. I always kept my phone and camera in a plastic bag in case it rained.

  2. I love the raincoats and glasses for this blog post!!
