Charlotte Tilbury x Norman Parkinson Collection Review

Charlotte Tilbury x Norman Parkinson Collections 'On Call' Makeup Bag, Matte Revolution Lipsticks, Colour of Youth
Charlotte Tilbury x Norman Parkinson Collection*
If you buy one thing this weekend, let it be from the new Charlotte Tilbury Norman Parkinson Collection thats just launched exclusively at Selfridges this summer.

Norman Parkinson was a legendary photographer with a body of work featuring some of the most iconic images in the history of fashion and portrait photography.  He was famed for injecting an easy and casual elegance into his photographs which produced a sharp contrast to the very stiff and formal images that his predecessors had taken.  The combination of  his impulsive, unstructured style and eccentric personality have made him one of the great photographers of today alongside the likes of Mario Testino and Tim Walker.

Charlotte Tilbury is a huge fan of Norman Parkinson's work and wanted to capture his vision of beauty with her new collection.  His grandson, who is a friend of Charlotte's, granted her access to the archive of over 750,000 negatives and 3000 original prints to collaborate on this special collection.

Not only did Charlotte want to celebrate Norman Parkinson's work but she wanted to bring it to life for todays generation and I'm so pleased that she did as until now, I wasn't aware of his work.  I of course, recognise many of the iconic images that he had created but I didn't know who was behind the lens capturing those moments in time.

He shot every iconic beauty imaginable from the 1930 through to the 1980s, including many Vogue covers which is where I recognise some of his shots from, to Pirello Calendars.  He had many muses, including Jerry Hall and Carmen Dell'Orefice who feature in the new Charlotte Tilbury's new makeup collection.

In my own makeup collection, I already have a couple of Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks and a lip liner and I feel as though this new collection, although limited edition, is very much an extension of her existing range.  There isn't anything too out there or wildly different to the other types of products in her line which is great news for existing Charlotte Tilbury fans because if you love her existing products then I'm almost certain you'll love the new pieces she has created too.

Sometimes makeup brands bring out limited edition collections that are so far away from their existing line whether it be in colour, texture or type that it is hard for the existing consumers to like the products; it is almost as if they're trying to branch out to a different type of customer for a short period of time.  Whereas this collection encompasses the style, sophistication and high quality that is synonymous with Charlotte Tilbury makeup.

Alongside the superb makeup that Charlotte has created, the collection sees the addition of some iconic images shot by Norman Parkinson on some of the compact packaging and makeup bags.  Whereas the new lipsticks in the line have been housed in the vintage rose gold lipstick packaging that we have all loved from the rest of the Charlotte Tilbury makeup line.

The collection features one of the most well loved products from the existing makeup range, the Filmstar Bronze and Glow, in cream form in the shades suntan and sunlight, which is absolutely perfect for the summer months, especially you're wearing a lighter, more dewy foundation or if you have dry skin.  Then there's the Dreamy Glow powder highlighter which was created to capture the youthful, soft-focus light of Norman Parkinson's lens.

These two products are particularly important to the line because Norman Parkinson really appreciated colour and the impact that it can have.  He was known for having an amazing ability to capture the sun and light on the skin and the different effects that it can have; particularly in the way that it can create and enhance a youthful glow.  Makeup artists, like Charlotte, also use the same concept of using colour and light to enhance the framework of the face which is no doubt what inspired the creation of these two products, as well as the others in the line.

Within the line, two new bags have been created.  The first is the 'On Call' makeup bag which features the iconic Jerry Hall image, 'Jamaica: Love at First Sight, A Holiday Romance' which was on the cover of British Vogue in May 1975.  It was actually Jerry Hall's first Vogue cover and the stunning image has long been a source of reference and inspiration for Charlotte Tilbury.

It was shot in Jamaica where Jerry Hall appears to be wearing a turquoise bikini lounging around a pool wearing a blue swimming cap while taking a phone call.  Her crystal blue eyes and the crisp blue water around her contrasts so well against the white main body of the makeup bag.

It has a vinyl feel to it and although it has piping around the outside of the bag which can give it some structure if it has makeup inside, it does otherwise squash down and become pretty flat.  This is great as you can store as much or as little inside of it as you like.  Inside, there's plenty of room for a full face of makeup and the bag is long enough for many brushes (my Zoeva ones fit inside perfectly) too.  I like that it has two pockets inside it as well which is great for organising your things.  I've been using this makeup bag inside my handbag to keep my makeup touch up bits inside as well as my headphones, mints and perfume rollerball.

If you'd prefer, there is also another style of bag available which is a larger size, therefore more of a wash bag, with a different photo of Jerry Hall from the May, 1975 issue of British Vogue which you can see here.  This bag is known as 'The Bathing Beauty Bag' which features an image of Jerry Hall, taken on the edge of the Black Sea in secret as shooting in the Soviet Union was prohibited at the time.

Charlotte Tilbury x Norman Parkinson Matte Revolution Lipstick in Miss Kensington Review

In addition to the already incredibly successful Matte Revolution lipstick line, Charlotte has created two new lipsticks as part of the Norman Parkinson Collection.

The first is the Matte Revolution Lipstick in the shade Miss Kensington which was inspired by the quintessentially English, 'haughty but naughty' girls of the swinging 1960's in Chelsea and Kensington and the pastel tones that can be seen in Norman Parkinson's photographs of his muses, such as Audrey Hepburn, Twiggy and Wendy who was his wife.

Miss Kensington is an English rose petal shade that is the most easy to wear pinky nude that I have come across in recent years and I couldn't be more in love with it.  The colour is absolutely perfect for me against my hair and skin and it has instantly become one of my favourite shades in my whole lipstick collection as it is so pretty and can compliment any makeup look so well.

The Matte Revolution lipsticks are designed to create the illusion of fuller, wider lips that have a lit from within look thanks to the 3D glowing pigments within the formula, which I definitely think that the Miss Kensington lipstick displays perfectly as it isn't a flat, blanket colour.
Charlotte Tilbury also created a second new Matte Revolution lipstick in the shade 1975 Red.

I'm sure I don't stand alone in saying that this gorgeous colour really and truly speaks for itself.

I have long searched for an effortlessly wearable shade of red and finally, I have found it.

The shade of 1975 Red was inspired by Jerry Hall's first Vogue cover.  It is a classic, 1970s sunset red that has an orange tone to it, making it the perfect lipstick to wear day and night this summer.  The colour of this luminous modern-matte lipstick was created to capture the fun, naughty and glamorous mood of the decade.

Charlotte Tilbury x Norman Parkinson Matte Revolution Lipstick in 1975 Red Review

I have been wearing 1975 so often over the last week, including to a mini festival event, and like with Miss Kensington, I have been so impressed with its staying power and the fact that it doesn't bleed at all.  That's something that often happens with me and dark lipsticks so the fact that this one doesn't bleed without a lip liner is a huge selling point for me.

I love how the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipsticks have the ability to be matte and long lasting but still hydrating on the lips with a smooth, even, cashmere like finish too.  They're very much a one swipe and go lipstick however you can go back in and add more layers if you so wish as the formula is buildable as well.  They don't pick up on any drier areas of the lips and they feel very comfortable to wear on the lips as they aren't drying in the slightest.

The formula is enriched with Lipstick Tree extract which is a natural anti-oxidant that helps to protect the lips and Orchid Extract that soothes and hydrates the lips, making them look youthful and healthy.  It also contains triglycerides mixed with a perfect blend of oils and waxes to create a formula that enables the lippy to glide onto the lips, leaving a highly pigmented colour that is long lasting.

I find that I only need to reapply these lipsticks after eating and drinking and even then, there's still a lot of the lipstick still on my lips.  This is one of those lipsticks where you can go about your day or evening and take a drink without worrying whether the lipstick has completely wore off or made its way across your face.  It is very much a long lasting lipstick with a very comfortable to wear formula.

I love the shape of the Matte Revolution lipstick line as it is completely different to any other lipstick shape that I have in my collection.  The tip is square and angled which mimics the shape of a lip brush.  It is designed in this way to help you to apply the lipstick effortlessly with a precise application and I really think that it does help when it comes to putting the lipstick on.
Charlotte Tilbury x Norman Parkinson Collection Colour of Youth
The Charlotte Tilbury x Norman Parkinson Colour of Youth
The final product in the collection is the Colour of Youth Healthy, Happy Lip and Cheek Glow which is designed to capture the youthful, soft-focus light of Norman Parkinson's lens.

Charlotte Tilbury describes it as being the colour of love, having been inspired by the love story between Norman Parkinson and his wife, Wanda who is in the  previously unseen photograph on the packaging of the compact.  There is a distinctly vintage feel to the packaging of this product and I feel as though it would have looked just as stunning on my grandmothers dressing table many years ago as it does on mine now.

Charlotte Tilbury x Norman Parkinson Collection Colour of Youth
The Colour of Youth from the Charlotte Tilbury x Norman Parkison
The Colour of Youth is essentially a cream product that can be worn on the lips or the cheeks, together or individually.

It is available in one shade, which is a gorgeous pink that encompasses the delicate, rosy hue that is often seen in young and innocent, fresh cheeks.  It should bring out the youth in the wearers cheeks and suit a multitude of skin tones.

There's more to the colour of this product than just being a rosy pink as it does have some peachy pink, coral tones in it as well.  In fact, in the swatches below, it doesn't look too dissimilar too Miss Kensington; more like a glossier, pinker cousin.  That's probably why this looks fabulous layered over that lipstick or worn on the cheeks with Miss Kensington on the lips.

The formula is infused with microfine pigment technology to ensure a high colour performance and a long lasting finish.  From the first time I applied this product, I knew that this was definitely a detail about the product that was true to its word.  I have super oily skin so if I'm quite honest, I didn't have high hopes for this product as a blush because usually, cream products become patchy easily and slide right off my skin.  This did not do that at all.  I wore it for the first time to a party with my hubby earlier in the week and when I returned home 6 hours later, it looked exactly the same as it did when I left the house; I was so impressed.

The Colour of Youth feels so creamy to the touch yet it doesn't feel heavy or too thick when applying it.  I applied it to my cheeks using a flat foundation brush, starting lightly at the apples of my cheeks and working upwards and outwards.  I applied a very light layer and found it to be so easy to blend with my skin and the existing products on my face.

Following the night that these photographs were taken, I have been playing around with this product and have found that, as a blush especially, it is very buildable and easy to increase the intensity while keeping it looking natural at all times.

I love that Charlotte Tilbury makeup products have a focus on skincare too.  This particular product contains Berry Flux Vita which increases Hyaluronic Acid to moisturise the skin and protect the epidermis from dehydration.  It certainly gives the skin a healthy, hydrated glow that looks very youthful but it is great to know that it is also doing the skin some good too.

My favourite way to wear the Colour of Youth however is on the lips which is where it has the most gorgeous glossy finish and a pigmentation that sits somewhere between a tinted lip balm and a lipstick.

I couldn't believe how long lasting this was on my lips, even through drinking and endless conversations.  It applies so smoothly and doesn't highlight any imperfections in the lips or bleed.  It looks so beautiful on the lips, very multi-dimensional and gives them a fantastic, healthy glow.

I thought my eyes were deceiving me until my friend also commented the same but this product has a way of making my lips look fuller and more juicy which is extremely welcome as my lips are quite small and my top lip is so small when I smile, whereas this product helps it to still catch the light!

Although it is a little annoying applying it with my fingers as I'm then looking around for something to wipe them on, it is well worth it as the effect is stunning and instantly lifts the complexion.  Perhaps I need to invest in a retractable lip brush for on the go applications as the compact, has everything you need otherwise, with its ample sized mirror in the lid.

I seriously couldn't be more impressed by the #TilburyXParkinson collection and I am so happy to have been able to add these limited edition pieces to my collection.

The lipsticks are incredible value for money- far better than my more expensive Chanel ones, the Colour of Youth is a product that EVERYONE should try and the makeup bag is a great way to store all of your pretty makeup pieces while you're on the go or for displaying on your dressing table while at home.

As well as being available individually, all of the pieces in the collection are available together in a gift box here.  Alternatively, you can purchase the 1975 Jerry Hall inspired look here and the Miss Kensington look here.
