How To Love Yourself

How to feel good about yourself body positivity self confidence love

How many times have you looked in the mirror and hated something about yourself?  How many times have you blamed yourself for something that wasn't actually your fault?  How many times have you done something that perhaps hasn't gone to plan and brought yourself down about it?

How many times have you hated yourself and your body?

Its something we're all guilty of from time to time but it isn't something that's good for us to do and can actually be really counterproductive.  We all make mistakes and we all have things about ourselves that we would like to work on and improve whether they're on the inside or out.  However we all have the right to live and love ourselves at the same time.

How you feel about yourself on the inside can have a direct impact on how others view and treat you and on how you respond to them.  No one has the right to tell you that you're not worthy, not even you.  Today I wanted to share some of my tips with you on how to feel good about yourself and love yourself.

So many beautiful people tell me that they hate themselves and would love to feel good about themselves.  The truth is, they can!  Looking for the good in everything, everyone and every situation is a good place to start.

Alice Morse Earle once said 'Every day may not be good... but there's something good in everyday' which I think is a pretty powerful quote that you can apply to everything in life.  You might not particularly like every inch of your body but there'll be something about it that you love.  You might not be the cleverest person in your maths class but you may be brilliant at art.

If you train your mind to think more positively, you'll find that you'll approach challenging thoughts and situations with a different outlook.  I started doing this a few years ago and it has really transformed my life.

Whenever I'm feeling down about myself, as though I've failed or I'm not good enough, I shake myself out of that slump by first realigning my thoughts; I am good enough and there are things about me that I love.  I do this by making a list and for someone who likes even numbers, I oddly seem to do this in threes lol.  Let me show you how.

Make a list of 3 things you love about yourself.

1. Stand in the mirror.  First, write something that you love about yourself physically.  While its whats on the inside that counts, we look at ourselves everyday and our outward appearance is often the first thing that we bring ourselves down about.  There must be at least one thing about yourself that you love.  You can see it in front of you so its a good place to start.

Focus on the things that you love about yourself and if a negative thought about another body part enters your mind, remove it from your thoughts by returning to thinking about the aspects of yourself that you like.

2. Then sit without any distractions and think about the thing that you love the most about you on the inside.  Are you a kind, courteous or caring person?  Are you funny or do you have a great sense of humour?  Are you adaptable, able to keep your cool in a variety of situations or are you level headed?  Are you quite diplomatic, the voice of reason and are you a good listener?  Do you love your enthusiasm and zest for life or do you love how relaxed and laid back you are?  Are you bright, logical or academically clever or are you creatively smart with passion and an eye for colour?

We are all complete individuals with such complex personalities.  I bet that once you think of one good thing about yourself on the inside that you like, you'll branch off into thinking about lots of different things that you love about yourself.  Again, if there's any negative thoughts popping up, return to the positive ones.  Overcome your own objections.

3. Then finally, think about one of your actions that benefits other people.  I'm a big believer in karma, what comes around goes around and how you behave towards others impacts how they'll behave towards you.

Are you someone who thinks of others before yourself?  Do you bring your neighbours rubbish bin back in for them or take parcels in for them when they're not home?  Are you the person that others turn to when they're in times of need or for a shoulder to cry on?  Can you be relied upon and are you a good friend?

You can follow these three steps at any time, whether you write them down for a visual reminder or repeat them to yourself in your head, forming your own mantra.  Speaking aloud or writing things out can be very powerful and is worth trying if you're finding yourself able to think but not believe what you're thinking.

Remember: You deserve to love yourself and for others to love you because you're worth it.
