During the winter months, I really like to keep a light tanned colour on my skin. I'm naturally so pale and while there's nothing wrong with embracing your natural skintone, I do on occasion, I just prefer my skin with a golden glow.
Tanning my skin is a routine that I like to maintain throughout the colder months but as my whole body isn't on show, I don't feel the need to continuously tan my whole body with a traditional false tan where you wash off the guide colour. Instead, I like to focus on lightly tanning my body with gradual tanners such as the St Tropez Gradual Tan in Light/Medium that I reviewed here, so that my body maintains a healthy glow and the parts that are on show look lightly tanned. Then when I want a deeper look, perhaps for a night out where I'm wearing a shorter dress, I then use a traditional false tan and go for a deeper look.
Whenever I tan my skin, I like to use a separate product for my face where possible because I find that they're usually formulated differently to be kinder to the skin.
While gradually tanning my skin recently, the face tanner that I've been using is the St Tropez Self Tan Luxe Facial Oil.
The St Tropez Self Tan Luxe Facial Oil is a luxurious facial tanner in oil form, created by tanning specialists, St Tropez, to give the skin a golden glow without blocking the pores.
Although this oil can be used each morning under makeup, I prefer to apply it at night to my face, neck and décolletage and allow it to work its magic while I sleep. It is really easy to apply as it comes in a glass bottle with a pipette/dropper that you use to dispense a small amount of the product into your hand. A little goes a long way with this oil and I prefer to add it gradually so that I don't end up wasting any.
The oil feels surprisingly lightweight and not greasy in the slightest. It actually feels quite moisturising on the skin and leaves my face feeling soft. It dries and is absorbed into the skin quickly which I like as it means that I'm not wasting time hanging around for it to dry and I don't need to worry about lying down and letting the pillow touch my face.
Since it is an oil and has a moisturising effect, it doesn't cling to the drier areas of my skin which was something that I was worried about when I first tried it. In actual fact, the tanned colour comes out really evenly on the skin and gives a very subtle golden glow which looks healthy and lightly sun kissed; perfect for days when you're wanting to go makeup free.
The tanned effect is very light so those who aren't super pale may need a few applications before they start to see a difference in their skin. The tan is buildable so I would suggest just applying it night after night until you build up to your desired shade. I have found that applying it for four nights on the trot works well for me, then I skip the next three nights, exfoliate, do a face mask, etc and then start again.
The colour that I build up during this time is enough for me to feel as though I have a healthy looking, golden tan but its not enough so that I would have to change my foundation to a darker shade. Its exactly what I look for in an everyday tan and the streak free finish is a big selling point for me!
If you're looking to give your face a golden glow this autumn then this is definitely one product for you to check out!
