Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Matte in 45 L'Adoree Review

Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Matte in 45 L'Adoree Review

Have you ever bought a lipstick, got it home and thought, 'what was I thinking?!'

Well that's exactly the way I felt about the Chanel Rouge Allure Matte Velvet lipstick in 45 L'Adoree.

To be fair, it was entirely my own fault.  I happened upon the counter and asked for a deep berry lip that would stay in place and I wouldn't have to worry about it migrating across my face throughout the day.

Essentially, thats what I got.

The Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Matte lipsticks are long wearing and apply beautifully without dragging the lips a lot.  When I apply L'Adoree, it hangs around on my lips looking pretty flawless for hours and it doesn't bleed or transfer easily which I love.  It is definitely a lipstick that I' would be confident wearing out, especially for drinks, because it doesn't move around easily.

However herein the problem lies; I don't wear it out.

I've tried wearing this lipstick with a few different makeup, hair and clothing looks but have resigned myself to the face that L'Adoree just doesn't suit me.

In the bullet, this lipstick is the most beautiful semi matte, mauve shade with plenty of blue and grey undertones.  On me, it doesn't look the way that it does in the bullet or in the swatch, it shows up looking far too grey toned, a little gothic but more verging on dead.  It's such a shame as when I bought it, I was hoping that it would be the shade that I had been looking for for so long but unfortunately not.

The saving grace for this lipstick is that the formula is fantastic and the packaging, as you would expect from Chanel, is stunning.  It comes in the black casing with the click up gold lipstick bullet holder.  So beautiful!

At £26, this certainly wasn't a cheap lipstick and I'm gutted that the colour doesn't suit me.  If you know of any websites or groups where I could sell on this gently used makeup item, then do let me know.  Its all sanitised and ready to go to a new home where someone could love it more than I do!

  4. Hi! My flatmate bought me this lipstick as a gift last year and I LOVED it - and snapped the stick the next week. I can't afford to replace it brand new and I was gutted, and I'd totally buy it off you! Drop me an email if you want to pass it on.... scarlettcayford@gmail.com

  7. Do you know, I think it looks great on you! Perhaps not what you were aiming for in terms of a deep berry but I think it's a really nice shade.

  12. From the photos I think it suits you but it's normally how you feel with a lipstick. I can generally get away with more gothy colours like this due to my lighter skin tone so I might have to check this out! x

  17. I am loving this colour and I am loving it on you, I think it's more about the outfit that you wear with it if I'm honest as in the first photo it is *slightly* gothy but still really nice and the second its fabulous! I've had that with a lot of lipsticks I own, although it's about how comfortable you feel wearing them and if you don't feel great in it then it isn't worth keeping it xx
