When I went out to the theatre last Thursday night, I wanted an outfit that was was smart without making me look too overdressed. Something comfortable was a priority for me as I'd had a root canal the day before and in all honesty, I was sore and would have rather stayed in. I'd been to the theatre the night before too but the anaesthetic was still working but on this day, it had definitely worn off!
Thankfully, the Scarlett and Jo Lace Sleeve Fit and Flare Dress came to my rescue as a smart but not overdressed piece that feels comfortable too!
This piece has a beautiful sweetheart neckline which I absolutely love because I think that it shows just the right amount of flattering cleavage while remaining classy. This is definitely a look that I prefer to go for as I think that it is more feminine.
It is made from a mix of viscose and elastane crape which has a good amount of stretch to it while still holding its own.
The Scarlett and Jo Lace Sleeve Fit and Flare Dress is definitely more of a long top/tunic on me than a dress. I couldn't wear it out without my Simply Be leggings, for fear of sharing my you know what with the world. That might be because I'm a little longer in the body (2.5") than my legs or perhaps its because of my disproportionate tummy, I'm not sure.
I have it in the next size up as they didn't have my size when I ordered and from the fit on me, I'd say it would be true to size, although short, because it is roomy on me. There's plenty of room on the bust so if you're someone who is far bustier than I am, I don't think you'll have any problems with the fit of this garment.
The sleeves on this dress are my favourite part of the design. I'm not someone who particularly looks for a dress to have sleeves but when they're as pretty as this, I love them!
As you can see, the sleeves are elbow length and very roomy so if your arms are an area you often struggle with when buying clothes with sleeves in, then I wouldn't worry with this piece.
For this particular night out, I decided to keep my outfit all black. Thats the best way, in my opinion, if you're wanting to look put together and chic when you really can't be bothered, which was the case for me as I wasn't feeling too great.
The great thing about this dress is that on the Scarlett and Jo website, they show you how it can be dressed up for an evening out with heels and also dressed down for a more casual look with leggings and flats. However for someone like me who needs to wear leggings with it, adding heels is a great idea because it gives you a look that is in the middle of dressy and casual. Mine are really old and not available any more but you can find a similar pair here.
My bag is the Lulu Guinness lips clutch which is one of my favourite bags to wear out at night. It doesn't hold too much so if you're a girl that likes to carry around the kitchen sink with her, then this piece isn't for you. Otherwise, if you want a glossy, beautiful statement clutch, go for it!
