If I had to sum up my current style, this would be it. If I'm not wearing PJs or loungewear then I'm going for a very plain but sophisticated look right now. I'm finding that dressing is so much quicker and far less hassle on a morning when my wardrobe is made up of basics that can all be mixed and matched with one another.
I never thought I'd be one of those girls who would wear all or mostly black but its definitely appealing, especially when you're in a rush or have lots of work or social occasions on that you need to pick out outfits for.
A black tee is particularly important and the Boohoo Plus Claire Off The Shoulder Top is the one I'd recommend. I got this in the black ages ago and I've since repurchased the same one, plus the grey and the white. They're an absolute staple for me as they're light weight, super stretchy, very comfortable and hold their shape so well. Plus they're an absolute bargain at £12.
This is the best shaped t-shirt that I've found in ages. The neckline is so flattering, especially if you're larger around the tummy like I am as it draws the eye upwards. Plus this top can be worn on or off the shoulders and it looks equally as great either way.
I love that I can pair this top with everything from skirts to jeans and trousers. I especially love wearing it with the best plus size leather look leggings EVER that I blogged about here. They're an absolute staple in my wardrobe because they look smart and trendy whether its 9am or 9pm.
I've linked some alternatives below under 'SHOP THE POST' too. That's where you can always find direct links to the products featured, dupes and alternatives so its a great place to check when you're feeling a little spendy!
Another wardrobe staple for me during the warmer months is a light trench coat. This nudey pink one is from Boohoo Plus; you'll have probably seen it over on my instagram.
Trench coats are available from so many different stores, I've linked a couple of current plus size options below but essentially, for spring and summer, I'd recommend looking for a light weight fabric in a style that suits your personal style and how you would like to wear it. What drew me to this one was the sleeves that could rolled up and the appearance of the jacket when worn open and tied at the back. I love the way that it falls.
Another couple of important wardrobe staples for me are a clutch bag and simplistic jewellery.
By simple jewellery, I tend to mean delicate pieces like a silver chain necklace that will go with everything. I also class my Thomas Sabo pink bracelet in this category as it can be worn with most things and it looks pretty and feminine. For this outfit, I popped on this bracelet with a silver heart necklace to match the silver accents in the bracelet, my stud earrings and my bag. They all go together and can be put on at a moments notice without much thought. I have quite a few pieces in my jewellery boxes that are like this; perhaps its about time I put together a jewellery collection post!
For this particular look, I thought that a clutch bag would work best with my outfit and this piece is my Chanel WOC in the camellia flower design. I have a video review on this bag coming up very soon. A couple of classic black bags, (one medium-large size and one clutch), are essential in any wardrobe in my opinion. Over the years, I've learnt its better to focus your efforts financially on buying one in a classic style that wont go out of fashion, or that you wont fall out of love for, rather than having several lower quality ones in lots of different styles. While I'm not suggesting everyone should go out to buy a designer bag, I think its better to spend £40 on one great quality bag than it is to spend £5 on eight different bags which, in theory, probably wont last you as long.
To complete my outfit, I added the heels that I have been obsessed with these last couple of months; the Boohoo Erin Wrap Strap Peeptoe Shoe Boots which I have in the pink but they're also available in the post beautiful grey colour I've ever seen.
Unlike bags, I don't tend to spend too much money on shoes, especially if they're ones that I wont be wearing often. I saw these shoes on the Boohoo website and knew that they'd be perfect for a few occasions that I had coming up that I wanted pink shoes for and they're at a great price point that wont break the bank.
As soon as I saw them, I had this exact outfit in mind and I'm so pleased with how it looks now looking back at the photos. The tie detail on the shoes is fabulous as you literally just wrap it around your leg. You can tie them high or low, at the front or the back and in a bow or knotted like I did here. I think that the way these are tied looks, dare I say it, a little sexy, especially with it wrapping over the PU leather effect leggings.
The great thing about these shoes though, is that my feet actually feel really sturdy in them. Usually, I prefer wedges or flatforms, or platform and block heels at a push but these actually feel really secure to my foot because of the material over the top of the foot which I think makes them a bit easier to walk in. The heel isn't too high too which always helps!
If you're going to be wearing a pretty basic outfit made up with wardrobe staples, then having a great looking pair of shoes and a gorgeous clutch can instantly elevate the outfit, dontcha think?
