Anti-Ageing Evening Skincare Routine for Combination Skin

Anti-Ageing Evening Skincare Routine for Oily, Dehydrated Skin Image Featuring Acti-Labs, Manuka Doctor, Elemental Herbology, Lanolips, Temple Spa, Estee Lauder

While I wouldn't like to be accused of stating the obvious, you only get one face.  Your skin is so important and I'm a big believer that you should take great care of your skin.  Prevention is far better than cure, especially when it comes to the signs of ageing so if you haven't got a routine sorted by now then please take note!

I'm quite fickle when it comes to my beauty products in that I love to try different ones out however the basis of my routine stays the same.  I've been going through a real change with my skin over the last year so while I would say that my skin is predominantly oily, it is dehydrated in places.

Having oil/combination skin can be tough to manage but I find that sticking to a light morning routine and a more deeply nourishing evening routine works best for me.

In today's post, I wanted to share with you my anti-ageing skincare routine for oily, dehydrated skin.  These are the products that I have been using consistently, except for when my skin broke out recently and I switched to using my go-to spot fighting skincare trio from Witch.

The first step in my routine is always cleansing. Its a bit like taking your bra off and popping your PJs on after a long day.  I throw my hair up in a top knot and use a micellar water on a cotton pad to remove the bulk of my makeup.

If I'm wearing waterproof or very heavy eye makeup then I'll use my trusty Clarins Instant Eye Makeup Remover but I've left that out of this post because I'm going to be doing a separate post on it very soon.

The cleansing water that I've been using most recently is the Acti-Labs Micellar Lotion.  This is a really light weight micellar water that is great for refreshing the skin and removing dirt and makeup from all areas of the face, eyes and lips without stinging or causing skin irritation.  The formula is created to respect the skins natural balance and its perfect for all skin types, even sensitive skins, so while mine is more oily, I think you'll be perfectly suited to this cleanser, even if you have dry skin.

When I first started using it, I was really surprised at how effective it was at removing makeup, far more so than most other micellar waters.  It leaves my skin feeling clean but not tight after use and smooth to the touch.  Now that I've come to the end of the bottle, I would definitely repurchase it.  I love the smooth and sleek packaging.  The spray pump is a little temperamental in that it tends to squirt out at different angles but aside from that, its a fantastic product.

Acti-Labs products are only available from specific stockists; I'd recommend checking out Laura and her Facebook group dedicated to Acti-Labs products.

After using a cleansing water, I follow up with a second cleanse if I've been wearing makeup.  This is to deeply clean my skin to remove any deep set makeup and excess oil.  I'm using an oil cleanser at the moment and thats the Elemental Herbology Harmonising Cleanse which you can read a full review of in this post.

After cleansing, I move onto my toning step.  Until recently, I've been using the Merumaya Gentle Exfoliating Toner which I wouldn't recommend wholeheartedly however I used it all up and have since moved onto the Pixi Glow Tonic.  I haven't been using this enough to give my full thoughts on it but I will do in time.

Following cleanser and toner, I move onto nourishing, hydrating and moisturising my skin.  Starting with the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye which is, in short, bloody brilliant.  This is a sample sized pot but I've been using it for well over a month and theres still so much left in it.  This eye cream is one of the best I've ever used.  It sinks into the skin beautifully and leaves my under eyes looking noticeably improved; soft, no puffiness, greatly reduced dark circles and softened fine lines.  I couldn't recommend it more highly.

Then I move onto nourishing my skin with an oil.  This is the point where if my skin had broken out, then I would use the serum from the Witch skincare line instead, otherwise, I've been using the Manuka Doctor Brightening Facial Oil.  I've been using Manuka Doctor products for YEARS and they never fail to disappoint.  This is an anti-ageing oil that's packed full of powerful plant extracts and Manuka Oil to bright and smooth the skin and even skintone.  Its scent is an acquired taste but it doesn't linger on the skin.

I love that it doesn't feel too heavy or greasy on the skin and sinks in easily leaving my skin looking and feeling deeply nourished, hydrated and smooth.

After applying my facial oil, I then move onto moisturiser and the one that I'm absolutely loving right now is the Temple Spa Repose Aromatherapy Resting Cream, aka a good nights sleep in a jar!  The calming scent alone instantly settles me when I breathe it in and for someone who suffers with anxiety, it a welcome relaxing treat at night.

The cream has the most amazing texture and while its suitable for all skin types, I think oilier skins will love this as it doesn't leave a heavy, greasy layer on the skin.  It is a thick cream that has some bounce to it and it massages into the skin effortlessly leaving the skin feeling soft and smooth instantly.  My skin looks perfected straight after I've used it and the effect is even better by the morning.

The formula itself is packed full of natural plant extracts, anti-oxidants and a fusion of relaxing essential oils.  It contains hops that help you to have a restful sleep while preventing premature ageing and firming the skin which I'm ALL about, especially as I'm getting older.  If you want great skin then you need this night cream in your life!

I always like to finish off my skincare routine with a lip balm just before I go to bed.  At the moment, I'm using Lanolips, The Original 101 Ointment.  This is a multipurpose balm that you can actually use anywhere as it is scent and colour free, making it ideal for travel.  I find that its great when rubbed into the dry skin on my wrists and elbows or massaged onto my cuticles however my favourite way to apply it is smoothed onto my lips.

The formula is 100% natural and contains an ultra pure medical grade lanolin which has a molecular structure that is very similar to your own skin oils which makes it great for hydrating and soothing the skin.  Whether my lips are feeling dry and chapped or just in need of a little pick me up, this dense balm smoothes onto my lips and locks in moisture all night so that I wake up with kissably soft lips!

Phew! That's everything that I use on my skin at night but it certainly feels like more when writing about it!  It can be hard when blogging as I want to try out different products but I want to test everything out thoroughly before I blog about it and if something works for my skin, I also want to use it until it is empty.  I guess thats why my empties videos are always packed full of products because I actively work to use everything up!

What really works for me is keeping all of these products in one skincare bag with some of these cotton wool pads next to the sofa and then when I'm sitting on an evening watching the TV and working on my laptop, I take my makeup off and apply my products.  Doing it this way ensures that I actually use everything in my routine and I don't have half empty bottles lying around all over the house!

  2. I'm with you prevention is the best cure. I try to use SPF throughout the day alone or within products but if possible I stay out of the sun! The only thing I have issues with us hormonal breakouts ugh so it's a lot of diet more than skincare for me x

  3. As I really do have ageing skin, I really need to step up my routine, I usually use wipes to remove make up, use a face cleanser and then if I remember a serum.

  4. This looks great. I'm starting to get fine lines around my eyes, which i am doing everything i can to try and get rid of them. I've been trying an eye cream by La Prairie which is really good and very expensive too. I'm tempted to go and buy the full size of it x
