When I first discovered that country brand Barbour were going to be releasing mens and women's fragrances, in all honesty I didn't know what to expect. For a company whose style resonates so well with the great outdoors, wax jackets and the countryside, I couldn't imagine what their fragrance would smell like but it certainly wasn't this.
On first smell of Barbour For Her, I noted how far away from my usual fragrance choices this perfume is but also how much I liked it. If you're someone who likes a very pretty, feminine smelling scent, then this one is for you and with Christmas coming up, I think that this will be one of those scents that so many women will enjoy, it would make a fail safe gift.
Barbour For Her is a beautifully fruity, floral fragrance with contrasting notes and a hint of sophisticated sweetness. It has notes of fruity redcurrant and spicy pink pepper, followed by a floral blend of rose, jasmine and blush peony which reminds me slightly of a lighter version of Jo Malone's Peony and Blush Suede, and then a base of musk, sweet vanilla and vetiver.
Musk is my favourite fragrance note which I think is what appeals to me with this scent because it gives it depth, rather than being too sweet or floral smelling. The perfume feels quintessentially English with its floral scent and while I was surprised to smell such a sweet, flowery scent from Barbour, I can see where they were going with this fragrance.
While not particularly long lasting, the scent is beautiful nonetheless and makes the perfect daytime fragrance for me as I really do prefer to amp up my perfume with a sexier scent come the evening time. If you don't like to do this then I'd think this would be an ideal fragrance for use during the day and at night. It is simply beautiful.
The packaging is absolutely stunning and looks so beautiful on my dressing table. Rose gold in colour, it is as feminine and pretty as the fragrance. I love that it features the pattern of Barbour's iconic Liddesdale quilt. The outer packaging is more traditionally what I think of as Barbour so to find the most beautiful rose gold bottle inside was a real treat.
I love the Barbour aesthetic anyway with the green and the earthy tones (I just wish I could get one of their incredible jackets in my size!) but for a fragrance bottle, something more girly works better which is why I think that they've got it spot on with their packaging of Barbour For Her.
Barbour was originally founded in 1894 and has always been based in the North East costal town of South Shields, which is quite near to where I grew up so I've always been passionate about the brand. They're a 5th generation, family-owned business and lifestyle brand that manufacture and retail lots of iconic clothing items, footwear and accessories which are currently sold in over 40 different countries across the world.
The fragrance line has been created to compliment the clothing as Barbour continue to grow as a quintessentially British lifestyle brand. If you're into your floral scents and you want something with a little grown up sweetness to it, then check out Barbour for her because it really is beautiful.
This fragrance is available direct from the Barbour website here for the 50ml and here for the 100ml.
