BEAUTY | Stila Stay All Day Vinyl Lip Gloss in 02 Melon Vinyl

Stila Stay All Day Vinyl Lip Gloss in 02 Melon Vinyl

Girls, if you're looking for a new lip product that's perfect for Spring and Summer, I think I've found it.

The Stila Stay All Day Vinyl Lipgloss in 02 Melon Vinyl is so perfect for the warmer months its unreal; the colour is nothing short of gorgeous.

Stila Stay All Day Vinyl Lip Gloss in 02 Melon Vinyl

The Melon Vinyl shade is a vibrant coral pink that is as bold in colour as it is formula.

The Stila Stay All Day Vinyl Lip Gloss line really pack a punch with their pigmentation.  There's a whole range of shades from the deepest reds through to the brightest pinks and they all provide an excellent colour pay off.  Melon Vinyl looks as pigmented on the lips as it does in the tube which is so rare with a lot of lip gloss products.

However this isn't like any other lip gloss I've tried because of its super high shine, lacquered appearance.  I've tried plenty of highly pigmented lip products before, lots of ones that make your lips look shiny and plenty that are long lasting, but its rare to find a lip product that does all three while being comfortable and hydrating to wear.

Stila Stay All Day Vinyl Lip Gloss in 02 Melon Vinyl

Stila Stay All Day Vinyl Lip Gloss in 02 Melon Vinyl

It leaves my lips looking so full and shiny, they catch the light and look the best that they can be.  The lip gloss doesn't cling to any dry patches on my lips, settle into fine lines or bleed, which is fantastic given that it is so long wearing.

I love that I can put this gloss on in the morning and by lunch time, it is still on my lips, despite drinking, which makes it an ideal choice for a summer night out when you're wanting a bold, bright lip colour that you don't need to touch up often.

The formula of this lip gloss is one that I think people will either love or dislike.

It is really comfortable to wear because it feels quite nourishing on the lips.  Theres seaweed extract in the formula which helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in the lips and to seal in moisture and theres also organic green coffee oil which helps to hydrate the lips, increase elastin and collagen production as well as preventing damage from UV exposure.  Of course, I have no way of really testing if those claims actually work but I can say that it does feel moisturising on my lips and it doesn't dry them out, regardless of how long I wear it for.

The beauty about this lip colour is that it is so easy to apply, you literally just swipe and go, and the wand is curved to fit the lip contour very well.  However the lip colour does literally stick to the lips and I think this is where some people may not get on with it.  The lip gloss does feel sticky and tacky on the lips but thats what keeps it hanging around for so long.  The high shine, glossy finish is always there and the colour doesn't separate or look uneven at all, no matter how many times you smack your lips together.  So for that reason, I think the sticky formula is necessary and actually welcomed because it fulfils its purpose.

I absolutely love this gloss. Its so ideal if you want a bright hit of watermelon pink colour that lasts for hours and hours.

LIFESTYLE | Champagne Breakfast at Jesmond Dene House

Champagne Breakfast at Jesmond Dene House Newcastle

One of my favourite philosophies in life is to work hard and play hard and if I can combine the two then that's even better for me.

When Jesmond Dene House, Newcastle's only independently owned boutique hotel, asked me to come along to review their Champagne Breakfast, I didn't hesitate.  This sounded absolutely ideal for me given that I work for myself so often need to meet with clients and if I'm not meeting with them, then I'm meeting with friends.

Jesmond Dene House has been on my radar for quite some time now.  I've been hearing great things about its award winning restaurant for years now and since it is owned by the same people as the St Mary's Inn, who serve a fantastic afternoon tea which you can read about in this post, I kind of already knew that I would love it before I even went.

Steeped in history, Jesmond Dene House has been around since 1822 when Newcastle architect, John Dobson, designed it for the Mayor of the city.  It was bought by Sir Andrew Noble who had many notable figures stay or dine at the house, including Rudyard Kipling!  The house was acquired by Newcastle City Council in the 1930's and since it has served as a number of establishments including as a place for Civil Defence, of which there are still tunnels under the house, and most recently as a residential school.

In 2005, the grade II listed property opened as the boutique hotel that we know today and although it has had many improvements and additions over the years, the house has remained very authentic.

What I loved instantly about Jesmond Dene House is its setting and location.  The building itself is absolutely stunning and is surrounded by woodland.  It is that peaceful and surrounded by so much nature that you'd be forgiven for thinking you're in the countryside when really you're a 5 minute drive away from Newcastle city centre.

The fantastic location makes Jesmond Dene House an ideal place to stay if you're visiting Newcastle on business or for leisure and it is the perfect meeting spot for those in the area to catch up with friends, family or business associates.

The idea of going out for breakfast really appeals to me, although for some reason, up until the last year or so, I have always thought of it as quite an American thing to do; perhaps I watch too many films.

I started meeting friends for brekkie last year as our schedules often meant that that was when we both had time free and I quickly loved the idea.  A great breakfast really sets you up for the day yet it is a meal that I often neglect so to get up, get ready and head out the door for breakfast is really beneficial for me.

Upon entering Jesmond Dene House, my friend and I felt immediately at ease.  For such a grand building, it has a very relax, laid back atmosphere that makes you feel at home straight away.  It has the right balance between being traditional and modern and it is packed full of local artwork and sculptures, including these fantastic dog status made out of wire.

We were seated at a beautiful table right next to the window where plenty of natural daylight flooded in.  There's something about the morning sun that really gets me motivated for the day.  The restaurant has plenty of different seating areas with a great mix of larger and smaller tables so whether you're dining with your family or as a couple, there is plenty of space and the opportunity for privacy.

I love that they have tables outside too for if you'd prefer to sit outside when the weather is warm or for if you're passing, walking your dog and would like to rest your feet with a glass of wine later in the day.

The Jesmond Dene House Champagne Breakfast is served daily between 7 and 10am Monday to Friday and from 7.30 to 10.30am on weekends and it is open to both residents of the hotel and non residents, which I don't think many people actually know about.

My friend and I ordered fresh coffee and orange juice with toast and preserves, before choosing between the sweet and dry champagne options.

Jesmond Dene House have recently introduced a new House Champagne to hotel residents and diners of their 3 AA Rosette Restaurant.

The Champagne Palmer & Co, Brut Reserve, NV is describe as 'gold in colour with an ultra-fine bead of mousse, the Palmer Brut Reserve expresses subtle notes of white flowers with citrus and whispers of field mushrooms on the nose.  The palate is creamy and silky in texture; citrus fruits up front are backed by notes of buttered brioche high notes.  Soft chalk minerality draws up the finish which lasts on the palate.'

For me, this was very much an easy drinking champagne, if such a thing should exist; I think it will appeal to many people.  This champagne isn't too dry, has subtle honey and brioche notes and a fresh taste, making it the perfect accompaniment for breakfast time.  Both my friend and I really enjoyed it and we do have different tastes when it comes food and drink.

Those dining from the Champagne Breakfast receive their choice from the varied cooked breakfast menu as well as the option to help themselves to the full continental breakfast spread in a room adjacent.

Since we arrived right towards the end of service, the continental selection wasn't as fully stocked as it would have been first thing that morning but there was still plenty of choice available across all of the different types of food.  This shows how fresh the food is and we found the selection to be plentiful, with more than enough for us to choose from.

Everything that you should expect from a continental breakfast spread was there and more; from bircher muesli, cereals and yoghurt to smoked salmon and home-cured gravlax, along with cold meats and cheeses, freshly baked bread, a Danish and croissant selection and fresh fruit salad, fruit compote and poached pears.

Since I was saving myself for the main event, together with my champagne, I opted for a few slices of cooked and cured meat, some fresh honey to have with a slice of toast and a slice of watermelon.  Everything tasted high quality and fresh which is what I would expect from an establishment like this.

It wasn't long before our cooked breakfast arrive and it certainly didn't disappoint.

Champagne Breakfast at Jesmond Dene House Newcastle

I chose the Smoked Salmon and Scrambled Eggs with Toasted Brioche, served with a sprig of watercress and a slice of lemon.  It tasted indulgent and light in equal proportions and was the perfect way to start my day.

I don't like to have anything too heavy on my stomach first thing on a morning but I do like to feel satisfied, comfortably full if you will, and this was perfect.

One thing that I must note is that my eggs were cooked to perfection.  I rarely order scrambled egg when I'm out for breakfast as I'm very particular about my eggs; sometimes they end up so over done that if you threw a spoonful across the room, it would stick to the wall.  I'd hate to appear rude but I just can't eat them when they're all rubbery like that but I decided to take a chance at Jesmond Dene House and I'm glad that I did; they were delicious!

Champagne Breakfast at Jesmond Dene House Newcastle

My friend ordered the most Instagram worthy dish; the Haggis, Duck Egg and Salsa Verde which looked absolutely incredible!  It tasted indulgent and filling thanks to the haggis and duck egg yet it had this fresh kick to it from the salsa verde which was a welcome contrast.

It is a real treat when you get a meal that tastes as good as it looks and this one was so delicious that we both agree that we would order the same again on our next visit!

Champagne Breakfast at Jesmond Dene House Newcastle

If you're a visitor to the Newcastle area, working or living there then I'd highly recommend popping by Jesmond Dene House for breakfast.  The Champagne Breakfast gives your day an indulgent and luxurious start in peaceful, relaxed surroundings.

I'm so grateful to have visited as I didn't realise how accessible the hotel was for non residents.  It is very much a place where you can pop in for a coffee or a glass of wine with a friend, meet over breakfast with a colleague, enjoy lunch or dinner with family and indulge at night with their tasting menu on a date.

You can find Jesmond Dene House on Jesmond Dene Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE2 2EY.

FASHION | Simply Be Dark Olive Sleeveless Kimono

Plus Size Blogger outfit wearing Simply Be ASOS Mulberry Bayswater Soft Croc Biscuit

At the end of February and the beginning of March, I went on a little bit of a spending spree.  I'd saved up some money to update my wardrobe with plain pieces in basic colours as my wardrobe was severely lacking.

My style has really changed a lot since last summer and this outfit is very much a reflection of that toned down style.

Plus Size Blogger outfit wearing Simply Be ASOS Mulberry Bayswater Soft Croc Biscuit

I'm wearing my pretty basic all black uniform of a black plus size cami and the best plus size leggings known to mankind, complete with PU leather look panelling.  They keep coming back into stock and then selling out really quickly so if you can't get your hands on them, then these leather leggings will give a similar effect.

Over the top of the cami, I've introduced a dark khaki green into my wardrobe with this lightweight sleeveless kimono.  It took me an absolute age to find on the website because it looks more of a tan brown but the colour is actually 'dark olive'.

This piece is a really classic shape that flows over any lumps and bumps.  The colour is really flattering for all hair and skin colours and it looks great whether you're wearing it dressed down for a smart-casual daytime look or dressed up for an evening out.  I've actually worn this for a meal and drinks out by adding some black heels, a clutch and jewellery and by putting a fancier black top on.

Usually I would associate this colour with the autumn but it seems as though dark greens are very much here to stay for the spring.  Since this sleeveless kimono is made from a very thin material, it will be perfect to wear when the weather gets warmer too.

For reference, it is dual sized and there's no stretch in it at all.  I picked my usual size and found that it fit the way that I wanted it to so if you want to go for a similar look, you should be fine choosing your usual size.

I paired it with my tan bow flats by Emilio Luca at Brantano and my Mulberry Bayswater handbag.  This is the soft croc style leather in the colour biscuit.

I love this bag because it instantly makes any outfit look chic and its great whether you're off to work or wanting to achieve an off duty look.

BEAUTY | Spring 2016 Makeup Trends with Murine Eyes

Spring 2016 Makeup Trends Murine Eyes Lisa Valencia Eye Mist Eye Drops

Last month, I was invited down to London by Murine Eyes to discover the top spring 2016 makeup trends and to see how their products can be used to prep the eyes before, during and after makeup application.

Murine invited professional makeup artist, Lisa Valencia, along to the flagship Superdrug store to share three key makeup looks for this spring and in today's post, I'll be recreating those for you.  With a portfolio to rival an art gallery, Lisa really knows her stuff and it was a real honour to watch her work and to pick up some tips from her.  She has worked on a multitude of celebrities including Newcastle's own Cheryl, Rose Huntington-Whitely, Tamara Ecclestone and Millie Mackintosh!

She started with freshly cleansed and hydrated skin, as expected because Lisa is known for her skin preparation before makeup application.  Part of this preparation included the use of the Murine eye drops.

Spring 2016 Makeup Trends Murine Eyes Lisa Valencia Eye Mist Eye Drops

Murine have the most varied range of eye drops on the market.  My favourite has to be the Bright and Moist Eyes which I've been using for years and years before I apply my makeup for nights out, the next day when I'm hungover or tired or when I'm on a flight to keep my eyes feeling hydrated and to make the whites of my eyes appear whiter.  However at the event, I was introduced to a few of the other eye drops in the Murine range.

Murine Dry and Tired Eyes are especially good for when you're, well, tired and if your eyes are feeling dry as the name would suggest.  Lisa explained that this one works wonders on the models and celebrities that she makes over, especially when they've just got off a flight or have been out late the night before.  Lots of models take tablets to help their skin but they can dehydrate them, so using the drops helps to make the eyes feel more comfortable and moisturised.

The Murine Professional Advanced Dry Eye Relief are the drops that are ideal for those with extremely dry eyes, perhaps in extreme cases of the above or for any other dry eye condition.  Perhaps you're suffering with extremely strained, itchy, irritated or dry eyes, this one would be perfect for you.  I know a few men that work on building sites and swear by these drops because they're working in an often dry and dusty environment, outside facing the elements!  The great thing about these drops is that they're suitable for use with all types of corrective contact lenses.

Murine also have Murine Contacts which is specifically designed for contact lens wearers.  Not all eye drops can be used while the contacts are in the wearers eyes but these ones can.  They help to re-wet and clean the lenses while they're being worn and they lubricate the lens for extra comfort throughout the day.

Lisa recommended applying the Murine eye drops before moving onto the makeup application incase you're not precise enough when applying them, plus, not everyone is used to using them.  If you're a dab hand at applying eye drops then it would be fine to use them throughout the day but keep in mind you'll need to be using waterproof makeup as otherwise they could disturb your eye liner, mascara, etc.

After prepping the skin, it was onto the first look; a fresh faced, natural look inspired by Balmain which I have recreated here.

Spring 2016 Makeup Trends Murine Eyes Lisa Valencia Eye Mist Eye Drops

This look is really simple and easy to recreate.  It is very much a tonal look that gives the skin a bronze glow.  Think a naturally sun kissed no makeup, makeup look.

Spring 2016 Makeup Trends Murine Eyes Lisa Valencia Eye Mist Eye Drops

I applied my foundation, pin point concealed where necessary and set it with a little powder.  Then I applied my bronzer where the sun light would naturally kiss my skin and added a little clear lip balm.  I'm wearing some light individual lash extensions here but otherwise a light coating of mascara would look lovely with this look.

Next, Lisa moved on to the second look which was inspired by the romantic makeup looks created by Dolce and Gabbana.  I have recreated this look using my own products below.

This look adds soft winged eyes and a barely there lip to the already bronzed skin of the previous look.

Spring 2016 Makeup Trends Murine Eyes Lisa Valencia Eye Mist Eye Drops

Building on the natural Balmain style, I added a tonal colour to my eyelid, blending it up to the socket line.  This adds depth and shape to the eye without heavily defining it.  I lightly groomed my brows and applied a dusting of powder to subtly fill in the sparse areas.

I then followed Lisa's guidance on to how to create a soft winged flick using eyeshadow rather than liquid or pencil liner.  Lisa explained that she avoids using pencils as they can often drag the eye and cause irritation which counteracts the purpose of using the Murine eye drops in the first place which intend to hydrate the eyes.

Spring 2016 Makeup Trends Murine Eyes Lisa Valencia Eye Mist Eye Drops

To create the flick, I used an angled brush together with a matte black shadow and applied it along my lash line and outwards to create the flick shape.  The secret to not getting a gap of skin between the liner and the lash line is to push the colour into the lash line using the powder.

To complete the look, I added a neutral lipstick to my lips, dabbed on using my fingers for a much softer, less painted on look.  The shade I used is Peach Blossom by MAC which is actually the lipstick that I wore on my wedding day.

Spring 2016 Makeup Trends Murine Eyes Lisa Valencia Eye Mist Eye Drops

This makeup style is ideal for those who are looking for a daytime look with subtle definition in the eyes without applying full on flicks.  It also works well for those who are up early for work and then like to change their makeup for the evening as it is easy to build on and quick to change, especially if you use the Murine Eye Mist.

The Murine Eye Mist, which restores the tear film on the eyes, was completely new to me before I attended the event and after using it for over a month now, it has become a key part of my skincare and makeup routine.

Spring 2016 Makeup Trends Murine Eyes Lisa Valencia Eye Mist Eye Drops

This is a product that's designed to moisturise dry eyes without needing to apply anything directly into the eye.  You simply spray it onto closed eyes or onto a cotton pad, held over a closed eye and the product enters the eyes via the lashes.  For me, this is genius and I wish I had known about it sooner as it took me a while to get used to eye drops.

It feels very moisturising and if your eyes are feeling irritated, dry or itchy then the spray soothes them.  I use it every single day at night, after I have taken my makeup off as part of my skincare routine and every morning before I apply my makeup.  It doesn't sting whatsoever, it has an alcohol free formula so it is very gentle and hydrating.

Lisa explained how to incorporate the Murine Eye Mist into my makeup routine with the next look which is the classic golden bronze smoky eye that she is most frequently asked to create.

Spring 2016 Makeup Trends Murine Eyes Lisa Valencia Eye Mist Eye Drops

Everyone loves a smoky eye and gold suits everybody, so if you're looking to learn how to perfect one makeup look, then this is the one that I'd suggest because you can intensify it depending on the occasion you're wearing it to.

The first thing that Lisa did was use the Murine Eye Mist to lightly removed the top layer of eye makeup from the previous Dolce and Gabbana inspired makeup look.  This is a great trick for if you're wanting to change your makeup from a daytime to evening look or for if you're a makeup artist doing one of many makeup changes on set.

Simply spray some of the eye mist onto a cotton pad and hold it over closed eyes like you might do with a cucumber patch.  This cools and soothes the eyes as well as hydrating them.  While the mist isn't a makeup remover, it will take off the top layer of makeup which is why it is so great for makeup changes for makeup artists and the like.

The Murine Eye Mist also mixes really well with powder makeup products which can make them go that little bit further.  The mist can be used to actually change the purpose of make product which will save you money too.  For example, if you want to create a blue liner look, rather than going out to buy such a product which you might not actually use too often, you can use the Murine Eye Mist to change a blue eyeshadow into a liner.

Spring 2016 Makeup Trends Murine Eyes Lisa Valencia Eye Mist Eye Drops

For this look, I spritzed some of the eye mist directly onto a gold eyeshadow in the pan and mixed them together.  This changes the intensity of the shadow.  Lisa suggested starting with the finger to apply the gold colour to the lid and then using a brush on top to pack the colour on.  I went straight for the brush as I hate getting my fingers dirty!

By adding a liquid to the eyeshadow, the gold colour was intensified so when I applied it to my eye lid, the colour was far stronger than it would have been had I not added the Murine Eye Mist.  This method is ideal for a stronger, night out look where you really want your eyeshadow to stand out.  The Eye Mist is really calming on the eyes so using it in this way is ideal for those that might suffer with sensitivity.  Not only is the mist great for mixing with eyeshadow but it can also be mixed with a brow powder for a strong, bold brow or with a matte black shadow for an intense eyeliner look.

Spring 2016 Makeup Trends Murine Eyes Lisa Valencia Eye Mist Eye Drops

After the gold shadow, I took a soft brown shadow along the lower lashline and then swept it through the crease of my eye.  I didn't use the mist as there wasn't any need for the shadow to be as intense here.

Then I mixed some of the eye mist with a matte black powder and applied it along the upper lash line as though it were a liquid liner and I built up the thickness of the line.  At the event, Lisa said that if you're someone who isn't confident doing a smoky eye then its a great idea to get definition and the lash line and then build on it, angling your flicks towards the end of the brow.  While I'm no stranger to creating a smoky eye, I don't usually follow this method so trying it out was a welcome change and I love the look that I created.  I like that the black shadow was really able to intensify the lash line and I could build it up to my desired effect.  To complete the eye look, I patted a little extra of the gold shadow on top and lined my waterline using a black kohl pencil.

Lastly, I applied the same lipstick directly from the bullet for a stronger look.

Spring 2016 Makeup Trends Murine Eyes Lisa Valencia Eye Mist Eye Drops

I've tried using the Murine Eye Mist with so many different brands of makeup from very affordable brands like Makeup Revolution to the more expensive Urban Decay eye shadows and I'm really impressed with the results.  It intensifies any shadow colour, makes them comfortable to apply with no fall out and the colour intensity is very long lasting on the lids.  It doesn't separate or break up the product; it meshes really well with makeup and makes the products that I use even easier to work with and to blend with one another.

Spring 2016 Makeup Trends Murine Eyes Lisa Valencia Eye Mist Eye Drops

This is definitely my favourite product from Murine by far now as I can use it as part of my skincare routine, my makeup application and to refresh and hydrate my eyes throughout the day, all by simply closing my eyes and spritzing it on!

All Murine products are available to buy from Superdrug here and you can find out more about them on their website here.

FASHION | Nicole Drape Dress from Ideal World TV

Nicole Drape Dress from Ideal World TV

I love the feeling that I get when I put a garment on and instantly feel confident in myself and what I'm wearing.  Thats exactly how I felt when I put on the Nicole Drape Dress.

I've had this dress for less than a week and already I've worn it twice; once dressed down with flats for the pub quiz and another for dressed up for date night which is how I styled it in these photographs.

Nicole Drape Dress from Ideal World TV

It is clear to see that the dress has been designed with comfort, style and practicality in mind.  It has a scoop neckline and 3/4 length sleeves as well as handy pockets.  However it is the shape of the dress that attracted me to it the most.

The shape of this dress is excellent because it is so flattering and really makes the most of your figure.  It has two layers; one which hugs the body to give you a smoother looking silhouette and the outer layer which is a drape style and flows effortlessly from under the empire line at the bust.

Nicole Drape Dress from Ideal World TV

I wouldn't have usually looked at a dress like this because I'd have mistakenly thought that it would cling to my stomach, as my bust and legs are disproportionately smaller, however that isn't the case at all.  I felt SO confident and comfortable in this dress on both of the occasions that I have worn it so far and I have found that it really elevated my mood when wearing it.  It was no surprise to me, therefore, to find out that this is one of the most popular dresses sold on Ideal World TV and that it frequently sells out!

If you're looking for a dress that could quickly become a staple in your wardrobe then I think that this could be it because the design makes it suitable for a day, night and workwear.  It is quite long, roughly just above knee length and you can pull it up a little if you'd like it shorter, etc.  With that in mind, you can wear it with trousers, jeans or very comfortably with leggings as it will more than cover your bum.

Nicole Drape Dress from Ideal World TV

It is available in a multitude of colours; I picked the navy because thats the colour that I'm really drawn to at the moment.  I paired it with my ASOS leggings, Simply Be heels and navy Chanel clutch.  Since my bag has gorgeous gold hardware on it, I added some sparkly gold accessories too.

Sizing is generous with this piece because the material is so stretchy.  I usually wear a UK 22-24 and I'm wearing an XL in this dress and it fits so comfortably.

I thought you might like to know that Ideal World TV are running a promotional Easter event this week from Thursday 24th March until Monday 28th March.  They're going to have some exclusive deals on over this period ranging from giveaways to bundles and the lowest ever price deals!

The great thing about it is that you needn't leave the house to bag their bargains.  You can stay connected with Ideal World, the home of shopping TV, on these channels; Sky 654, Freeview 22, Virgin 747 and Freesat 812.  More of an online shopper like me?  Head to www.idealworld.tv, its that simple!
