Rimmel Scandaleyes Reloaded Mascara & Eyeliner Review

Rimmel Scandaleyes Reloaded Mascara in Black and Extreme Black and Micro Precision and Thick and Thin Eyeliner Review Image

Whenever I put my makeup on, I like to make a feature of my eyes.  Its often said that they're the window to the soul, or something equally as romanticised but regardless, I love to make my eyes look defined.  Without doing so, its fair to say that I have a face that vaguely resembles a potato.

My favourite way to define my eyes is with winged liner and blacker than black mascara.  Easy application, high pigmentation and a long lasting result is what a busy woman like me looks for in these products and I love that with Rimmel London, they don't have to cost the earth.

When I was in my mid teens, mascaras and liners (pencil- I don't even think felt tip liners were out then!) were only good if they were from one of the higher end, department store brands but these days, Rimmel London are really flying the flag for girls who love bold, defined eyes, right on the highstreet.

2016 was a year of really discovering Rimmel for me.  In the past, I've tried out their kohl liner, Wake Me Up concealer and nail polish, all of which I really enjoyed but by Christmas, I'd been using far more of their products including the brilliant Only 1 Matte Lipsticks (review here). Perhaps it was as influence of the genius signing of Cara Delevingne as a brand ambassador; for me, she's the ultimate model to encourage me to get the London look.

Cara fronted the campaign for the new Rimmel Scandaleyes Reloaded Mascaras and from the moment that I saw the ad back in October, I was hooked and knew that I had to try more from the brand.

Let's just say, I'm a lot more than impressed by the Scandaleyes range.

There are a number of different liners in the Rimmel Scandaleyes range and there really is something for everyone.  I've been trying out a few different ones and there's two that really stand out for me.

The Rimmel Scandaleyes Thick & Thin Eyeliner is unlike any I've used before.  It is a felt tip liner with a unique 3D applicator that enables you to draw both a thick or a thin line depending on how you hold the pen and the angle and pressure used during application.  While still easy to use, it requires a little more thought during application than the Precision Micro Eyeliner I've been trying out.

The Thick & Thin eyeliner is great for those who love to create graphic liner looks and sharp, angular wings.  It can be used alone or combined with another, finer liner for a totally different look with lots of precision!  The formula is waterproof and smudge proof which ensures it stays in place all day but it is easy to take off with eye makeup remover.

Rimmel Scandaleyes Precision Micro Eyeliner Review ImageMy absolute favourite felt tip liner though, has to be the Rimmel Scandaleyes Precision Micro Eyeliner which has become my favourite and most used liquid liner, even more so than the Artdeco liner that I reviewed here.

The liner has a short and fine felt tip nib which makes it really easy to control.  I can draw an ultra fine line with it or apply more pressure and a slight change of angle to apply a slightly thicker line.  The result is a precise, super black, waterproof line that stays in place all day without smudging.  When I do remove it, or the other felt tip liner, it comes off effortlessly with my eye makeup remover.

It is by far the easiest felt tip liner I've ever used and I even find it easy to control and apply when I'm doing my other eye which means that I don't have the daily struggle of trying to get my winged liner even!  Using a finer liquid liner makes it really easy to create different liner looks whether I'm just lining my eyes, applying a small flick or creating a thicker wing.  I'd recommend this one to everyone whether you're a total noob or a seasoned pro.

Along with the eyeliners, I've also been using the Rimmel Scandaleyes Reloaded Mascara which comes in two shades- black and extreme black.  This mascara has Rimmel's new formula and max density brush for unstoppable, clump free volume!

The brush itself is big and chunky; it reminds me a little of the Benefit BADgal Lash Mascara however I actually find the mascara far easier to apply than the Benefit one.  I thought that the big brush head would be difficult to apply the mascara on the bottom lashes but it isn't at all; I can even give my lower lashes the separated but fully coated look that I love for a wide open even effect.

The overall result with this mascara range is beautiful, super black, dense lashes without clumps.  I have lightly coloured, short lashes so without extensions or falsies, my lashes are never going to look super long but making them appear more voluminous goes a long way to making my eyes appear more defined.

The Rimmel Scandaleyes Reloaded Mascara lasts all day long, hold a curl well if I've used my lash curlers and it doesn't flake or transfer onto my lids.  Removal is easy with warm water alone or any of my cleansers which is definitely great in my book as I hate having to scrub at my eyes in order to get my eye makeup off!

I do prefer the extreme black for both the packaging and the strength of the colour although its not too much of a difference and I certainly wouldn't say that someone would need both.

If you love your lashes big and bold, then this is the mascara for you!

These Rimmel products are available from ASOS, Feel Unique, Superdrug and Boots.

  1. See I used to use the scandal eyes eyeliner, it does make precise lines easier, but I never thought the liner itself was black enough, the ones i had were quite watery. Still if they work for you, that's fab!

  2. I love those pen sorts of eyeliner. I bought the Benefit They're Real one and really hate it. It's not easy to use and getting a neat line is very hard. I then bought the Soap And Glory one and found it much better. It's cheaper too. I will have to try the Rimmel one x

  8. I'm useless at putting eye liner on normally so I just use a thin layer of black eyeshadow, but having some pens that have different nibs would be so handy!
