Paul & Joe Beaute Spring 2017 Makeup Collection Review

Paul & Joe Beaute Spring 2017 Collection, 15th Anniversary Makeup Collection, Le Petit Noms d' Amour

February is finally here which means that the 15th Anniversary Makeup Collection from charming Parisian brand, Paul & Joe has launched internationally!  Le Petit Noms d' Amour captures the essence of romance and the gorgeous flush of pink colour associated with falling in love.  There are products for the lips, eyes and face, all of which are limited edition and highly covetable, especially if you're a makeup collector!

An abundance of time, thought and creativity goes into creating every single Paul & Joe product and they each have a story behind them.  They're made in Japan and have a quality that isn't rivalled by many other makeup brands, right down to the click and snap of their packaging closing!

I had a sneak peak at the collection ahead of its launch and in today's post, I want to share with you my top picks from the line.  Starting with the base and it doesn't get much more special than the Paul & Joe Pearl Foundation Primer.

Look familiar?  Fans of Paul & Joe may remember the original Bon Bon primer and how incredibly popular it was!  The newly released Sweet Bon Bon Pearl Foundation Primer is set to be just as well loved.  You can read my full review of it on my blog here.

The collection of 'make up for love and romance,' couldn't be more perfect for Valentine's Day so if you're reading this with someone special in mind to buy for this year then these are definitely the makeup products that you're going to want to look out for.

The Face & Eye Colour CS collection is made up of three different coloured boxed blushes with a trio of colours in each.  They add the most beautiful flush of colour to the cheeks, emanating the look of love, and since they're really easy to blend, they are great for using on the eyes too.  The formula of the powder is enriched with Jojoba Oil, Orange Flower Water, White Lily Extract and Rosa Roxburghii Fruit Extract, which makes them buttery soft and suitable for sensitive skin.

I have the shade Smitten Kitten (107) which combines warm toned shades of coral pink, orange and beige.  The design, like on each of the Face & Eye Colour CS blushes, is a cat, rather than individual, rectangular pans which I really like.  They're actually poured and set into the pan rather than created and pieced together.  This means that they mould to the full size of the pan, without any air gaps, so they're less prone to breaking or smashing if dropped, when travelling etc.

There are little hearts on the background, around the cat, which aren't set into the powder and these are quickly used up with the first use.  The powder is so soft to the touch and feels really comfortable against my skin.

The three main shades can either be applied individually (particularly for the eyes) or swirled together, which is how I prefer to apply it as a blush.  A soft powder puff applicator, designed to look like a cats paw is included within the box for application which is very sweet, although not something that I would use as I do favour a standard blush brush.  That being said, regardless of the method of application, this blush is absolutely gorgeous on the cheeks and so buildable which is great as I can customise the look depending on whether I'd prefer a stronger, bold look or something more subtle and radiant.

Each of the three boxed blush shades has a different outer packaging in the charming style that Paul & Joe are known for.  Cats feature heavily as one might expect given that creator of the brand, Sophie, has such a fond love for them.

Also for the cheeks are the Paul & Joe Powder Blush and compacts.  Makeup from this brand is fashion forward and runs seasonally, as does the packaging.  Each season, Paul & Joe create unique packaging designs which often coincide with the patterns they have used for clothing in their fashion collections.  Their prints are used on compacts for small eye and blush palettes and as well as on their lipstick packaging.

This season, there are three different styles; a soft pastel and floral design (013), a sky blue compact with birds on it (014) and the one that I have, number 015, which contrasts geometric shapes and bold colours with florals.  You can check out all three on Beauty Bay.  These patterns are also on the lipstick packaging (numbers 037, 038 and 039).  I have 039 which is the same as the powder compact.

The compacts and lipstick packaging are made from a strong, coated cardboard with a plastic insert that holds the product securely.  The products come with their own plastic packaging too which means that you could buy several lipsticks and just the one holder and switch them out depending on which one you're wearing that day.  This is kinder to the environment and to your purse!

To go inside the powder compacts, Paul & Joe have released three new Eye Colour Trios and three new Powder Blushes.  I don't have any of the eyeshadows but I've swatched them and they're super pigmented.  The shades are inspired by the romance of springtime in Paris and each trio has 3 shades that can be worn together as a complete eye look or individually.  One of the palettes is very pink (Mon Coer) which I think will divide opinion, while the more violet trio (Mon Prince) and the green trio (Mon Nounours) are more wearable in my opinion, with the latter being my favourite.

I love wearing green eyeshadow as I think it complements hazel eyes so well.  The one that I wear most often is from a previous Paul & Joe collection.  Check it out in this post.

The new Paul & Joe eyeshadows are enriched with Jojoba Oil, Orange Flower Water, White Lily Extract and Rosa Roxburghii Fruit Extract like other pieces from the collection.  They're buttery soft from the swatches I took and I'd imagine that they're easy to blend if the other shadows I've tried from Paul & Joe are anything to go by.

There are three new shades of Powder Blush in sweet and romantic hues with this collection too; a warm pink (Mon Lapin), a rosy pink (Mon Canard) and a cool toned pink (Mon Chou).  They're all two toned with a matte powder and a more sparkly powder that is designed to give a pop of colour to the cheeks.

I have Mon Chou which combines a bright, cool toned pink with a more violet pink with a hint of shimmer.  It is a bright and playful blush that looks great whether you're going for a paired back, lightly flushed look or adding a pop of colour on the cheeks to make a dark smoky eye appear more girlie.

As I expected from Paul & Joe, this blush is buttery soft and applies evenly to the skin.  The larger, brighter pink is a lot more pigmented than the smaller, lighter portion but they're both easy to build up for a more intense colour result.  They can be used individually to contour and highlight the check, add a flush and a pop of colour or simply swirled together and swept onto the skin.

In the below photograph, you can see swatches of both parts of the above blush on the far left and the next three swatches on the right are of the boxed cat blush.  As you can see, on my super tanned skin (thanks Maldives!), they're beautifully pigmented and even in application.

However I have saved the best until last with my favourite piece from the whole Spring collection; the Makeup For Love Lipstick in Russian Blue (103).

OMG.

Paul & Joe Beaute Spring 2017 Collection, 15th Anniversary Makeup Collection, Le Petit Noms d' Amour

If you've been wearing Paul & Joe products for years then you might remember the first time they released lipsticks with bullets shaped like cats.  They sold like hot cakes and you couldn't buy them for love nor money.  I've waited what seems like FOREVER for them to bring back the kitty lipsticks and finally they have.  The 15th anniversary collection couldn't be more perfect for their return!

At first, I wanted to admire this lipstick from afar but aside from not making a particularly well rounded review, I couldn't resist trying out the shade for myself.

What is unique about Russian Blue is that it is a light grey in the bullet but when applied to the lips, it transforms into your own custom depth of fuchsia pink.  I could be wrong but I think the shade is determined by heat as when I swatch the lipstick on my hand against my cool skin or on my lips if they're cool, the colour is quite a light but bright pink however if I apply it to my lips when they're warm then the colour quickly becomes a deeper, brighter pink.  I found this out when I applied it after I had just rubbed my lips with a cotton pad to remove a lipstick that I had on there previously.

Paul & Joe have got the formula of this lipstick spot on; it isn't sticky or tacky feeling at all.  Rather it is softening and comfortable to wear.  Plus it is enriched with lily extract and orange flower water, which makes my lips feel hydrated and moisturised.  I was surprised to find that this lipstick is actually really long lasting and wears off gradually, leaving a stain on the lips, without any unsightly rings or bleeding.

The smooth formula applies effortlessly and the cat ears actually make getting that sharp cupids bow a doddle while they last!

There's also another shade in the same shape, Persian Pink (104) which is the perfect springtime pink.
