5 handy tips for accessorising in summer

The sun has got his hat on and it’s time to come out and play! Ensure you look the part at every event this season by following these five handy tips for accessorising in summer.

1. Prioritise your bag

Summer is the season for socialising as we make the most of long days and light nights. Your bag will play an important role in taking you from morning to evening, carrying all the essentials from suncream to a light jumper. This means you should prioritise your bag when picking outfits.

The best bags for your summer wardrobe include tote bags because of their substantial size, cross-body bags for outdoor adventures and funky clutches for special events such as weddings.

2. Sparkle in the sun

Make the most of the bright weather and take the opportunity to sparkle in the sun! Head to a specialist jewellery retailer stocking luxury brands and treat yourself to some diamonds or your gemstone of choice in a cut that best refracts light.

You could also invest in a watch with a metal bracelet and gold or silver face for extra dazzle.

3. Decorate your hair

Think hair accessories are just for children? Think again. They were one of the dominant hairstyling trends featured on the spring/summer catwalks, alongside headscarves – a useful way to protect your scalp from the sun – and beads embellishing buns.

A hat is also a must to protect your face from harmful UV rays – and look fabulous while doing it. Current favourites include bucket hats, the classic Panama and wide-brim straw hats perfect for the beach.

4. Wear bold sunglasses

When you’re out and about during the summer, you need to think about safeguarding your eyes against the sun. Wear bold sunglasses in your favourite style: this will add instant glamour to any outfit while filtering out UVA and UVB rays.

Chunky square spectacles with thick frames, horizontal ovals, pops of colour and retro aviators are dominating sunglasses designs this season. Cat’s eye sunglasses continue to be popular too following the release of Barbie in cinemas last July.

5. Keep your feet cool

There are endless opportunities for fun when it comes to summer footwear! Whether you prefer the comfort of chunky sandals or striding high in strappy heels, remember the objective is to keep your feet cool. Look for styles and materials that are breathable and don’t rub or slip.

Toes are on show in most designs this summer, so treat yourself to a pedicure with a splash of colour. Platform shoes will also be lined up alongside dainty slip-on kitten heels à la Carrie Bradshaw in the hit series Sex and the City.
