5 Reasons to Holiday in the UK

Tynemouth Market

I talk a lot about international travel on the travel part of the WhatLauraLoves blog but when living in such a beautiful country, there is no reason to head overseas if you want to experience beautiful beaches, world-famous landmarks and unique cultures if you don’t want to, as the UK is full to the brim with all this and more.

Rather than hopping on a flight to see what another country has to offer, why not take the time to learn more about the beautiful nation that I for one am so proud to call home?

If you want to enjoy a fun-filled break away in 2019, here are five reasons to holiday in the UK.

STUNNING SCENERY
If you are looking for majestic mountains or blue flag beaches, you shouldn’t overlook the UK, as there are many gorgeous landscapes on your doorstep.  There are so many towns and cities across the nation to choose from that can provide a stunning backdrop during a break.  For example, you could organise a trip to the Lake District, Peak District, Sussex, Devon or the Scottish Highlands, which will not let you down when it comes to impressive views. You could even take a trip down to Cornwall and stay in one of the beautiful Newquay homes.

If the beach is your thing then I’d really recommend Tynemouth up here in the North East.  It has the most stunning beaches, fabulous bars and restaurants and an epic market full of unique local handmade products and other things to buy; its a real treasure trove that’s for sure!

EXCEPTIONAL HISTORY
You don’t need to visit cities such as Rome or Athens to immerse yourself in history, as the UK offers a rich and interesting heritage that is sure to trigger your imagination.  For example, you can learn more about the UK’s extensive kings, queens, kingdoms and cultures when exploring various historical landmarks dotted across the country.

If this sounds like an ideal trip for you, consider exploring the Roman Baths, stepping inside the iconic Edinburgh Castle, or viewing the mysterious Stonehenge for yourself.  My personal favourite however is The Alnwick Castle where some parts of Harry Potter were filmed!

PET FRIENDLY BREAKS
Unfortunately, you won’t be able to take your pet pooch or feline friend to a tropical resort abroad.  However, rather than allowing them to miss out on all the fun, you could book a pet-friendly cottage in a beautiful spot in the UK.

By doing so, you can explore charming market towns and beautiful countryside with your canine companion by your side when booking one of the many beautiful South Downs holiday cottages.

DELICIOUS CUISINE
Many people believe they need to travel to the likes of Thailand or Japan to experience unique, delicious flavours that will linger on their tongue. Don’t discount UK cuisine too soon, as there are many exceptional dishes just waiting to be tried.
For example, you might be surprised to learn that London offers 71 Michelin-star restaurants. Plus, you can take your pick from the freshest seafood when visiting the Isle of Wight, Loch Long, or St Agnes.

SUPERB FESTIVALS AND EVENTS
A UK break can be the opposite of boring.  In fact, the nation provides many annual festivals and events to excite every age and interest.  For example, you could time your break away for:

  • Glastonbury Festival
  • Notting Hill Carnival
  • Burns Night (Across Scotland)
  • The Edinburgh Fringe Festival
  • Reading Festival
  • Whitby Folk Festival
  • Camp Bestival
  • Isle of Wight Festival
  • Jorvik Viking Festival

There will be an event you can attend in the UK every single month of the year.

So, if you are looking for a fun break away to relax and have a little fun with your loved ones or alone, perhaps forget about flights and opt for a staycation instead.
