Decorating the walls of your home can really bring them to life and make them an inviting space that’s great to look at. I live in a rented apartment and I’m not allowed to paint the walls anything other than white so decorating the walls with pictures and mirrors helps to really put my own stamp on the place. In today’s post, I’m going to share with you 5 ways that you could do this in your own home.
CREATE A GALLERY WALL
Sure, you could hang a large work of art to a particular wall, but sometimes, you can create greater aesthetic appeal with multiples pieces. A well-matched collection of paintings and photographs can add colour and personality, not only from the pictures within but because of the different frame designs used as well. You can also use your creativity in how you arrange the various pieces on your wall. So, visit an art shop on or offline, pick out the paintings and frames you like, and dig through your photo collection too. Then bring your wall to life with the pieces you have chosen.
CREATE AN ACCENT WALL
You don’t need to add pieces of art or photos to your walls, of course, as you can simply decorate the wall itself. So, you might use a bold and vibrant colour if painting or wallpapering, as the wall might stand out well in contrast to the rest of your room’s design. You could also use decals or stencils when decorating your wall, using your imagination to create designs of your choosing. Check out these other wall decorating techniques, and choose an idea that befits both your home and your personal abilities.
ADD TEXTILES TO YOUR WALLS
In an effort to create a cosy home, you don’t only need to focus on your floors or sofas when choosing textiles for your home. You could add a rug to your walls, or any other form of wall tapestry. You might drape scarves around your walls too, or patchwork designs of your own creation. So, take a look at the textiles you already use in your home and consider how you might repurpose them for your walls. Or head online, using sites such as Amazon and Wayfair to look for the fabric wall hangings that will match your home’s current decor.
ADD MIRRORS TO YOUR WALLS
It’s a simple yet really effective and my personal way to bring a wall to life. Not only will a mirror reflect light around your living room and make it feel larger, but a mirror will also bring a wall to life with the reflected decor from other areas of your room. You don’t need to add one mirror, of course. Instead, consider adding several smaller mirrors salon-style, displaying them in a design that holds aesthetic appeal for your eye and your living room.
ADD SHELVES TO YOUR WALL
Hey, you need more storage space, right? Then kill two birds with one stone (not literally) by installing shelves to your living room wall. Use it to display your books, sculptures, and any other item that holds aesthetic appeal, and you will then have a decluttered living room and a wall that brims with life. Result!
Simple ideas, I know, but hopefully useful to you. Let me know your thoughts and if you have done more to bring your walls to life, please share your ideas in the comments box below!
I love mirrors on the wall, which reminds me I had a plan to make a wall in my spare room full of different mirrors…!
I’m also in rented property and restricted on decorating so use mirrors and photos to style the bland walls. Love the idea of adding texture to the walls.
I hear you on the rented property thing. We finally have our own place again, but now the problem I have is where to put the pictures! 😀
We’ve got a couple of mirrors up on ours – we can’t do too much due to being in privately rented accommodation but I would love a gallery wall!
I love nothing more than bookshelves. I’m a huge reader but even if you’re not you can fill them up with ornaments and candles.
Some really great tips you have . We’ve been doing up our rooms and definitely agree with adding mirrors to walls 🙂
I have always struggled with finding the perfect balance when decorating the walls. I would either put too much or too little up. I am slowly getting where I want to be, hopefully, I will like the result 🙂
I am loving your duvet cover if I am honest – our walls are covered in pictures but I would love something a bit more minimalist
I have always wanted to make a galley wall going up my stairs. Might have to start on it after Christmas
We have accent walls and feature/insta walls in our house which look so pretty – never tried using mirrors that much so going to give it a try x
We are going to declare our bedroom in the new year and I cannot wait. Thanks for the ideas, I will definitely need some.
