Winter can be a depressing time of year, waking up in the dark, feeling all snug and warm in your bed and not wanting to get out and feel the chill, but winter is also the most magical time of year with the celebrations, the presents, the parties, and the friends and family. So, what if you could make a few little changes and eliminate the miserable bits of winter too? It would make for the perfect holiday season, and with minimal effort, you can banish those winter blues with a few little touches to make you smile each day.
KEEP WARM
Okay, a heated blanket or a hot water bottle aren’t going to make getting out of bed and stepping into the cold any easier. But what about a new snuggly dressing gown to put on and some fluffy slippers? Still not enough to make you jump out? Central heating boilers are excellent, but sometimes you need a little extra, and a portable heater that you can put on a timer for just before you need to get up could be just what you need. And make sure it is portable so you can have it with you while watching tv or reading in the evening. If you don’t have a fireplace, then a portable heater is the next best thing, and these days they look pretty stylish too.
DECORATE
Get your tree up as early as you want to and get decorating. Make your home as festive as can be. It’ll probably make you feel warm and cosy and it’ll make you smile when you’re feeling cold and if you’re having a day where you feel a little miserable. Twinkly fairy lights not just on your tree but over your mantlepiece or around your bannister, a Christmas wreath, a bit of tinsel, your Christmas cards and a few candles and you’re set. Your home will be cosy, beautiful and festive.
SMELLIES
Don’t you love it when you walk into someone’s home, and you can smell freshly baked cookies? Well, you don’t need to be slaving away in the kitchen to achieve this in your home, have a look around for a Christmas candle, and you’ll be amazed at the scents you can find. Gingerbread, cinnamon, pumpkin spice, Christmas pudding – you’ll be spoilt for choice. Okay, you might always be hungry, but your house will smell divine haha! Personally for me, food scents aren’t the one so I prefer to simply go for scents that I love and that make me feel happy around my home and they do make a huge difference to how I feel when I come home and can smell something familiar and see the warming light of a candle when I put them on. I actually have a giveaway over on my Instagram that I think you’ll enjoy if you like candles and wax melts- check it out here!
HOMELY TOUCHES
Finally, if you want to add a few more extra touches, get some Christmas or winter towels, tea towels, napkins, and you can even get some Christmas toilet roll to spread that Christmas cheer throughout your home. Those winter blues will be no more when you surround yourself with joyous and beautiful festive things. All these little touches make such a difference, and your family and friends will love them too.
WATCH WINTER FILMS
What better way to spend an evening than sitting in front of the TV, wrapped in your blanket watching movies? The great thing is that there’s plenty of Christmas movies to get through and it’s the best time of year to eat chocolate and other festive foods while sipping on a hot drink.
What are your top tips?
I love to snuggle up on the sofa with a blanket watching films when the weather is beating against the windows
Love all of these. I also like to get out in nature at this time of year. It’s cold but beautiful with all of the leaves changing colour.
I definitely watch winter films and I love lighting candles. I have always got cinnamon or other festive scented candles on the go at this time of year.
I always invest in scented candles this time of year – perfect for helping to make the house feel warm and more inviting
