3. Go for a walk
The final part in my 3 Ways To Kick Start Your New Year mini series is the one that many of us dread and that’s getting active. I started with skincare, then moved onto a way to combat feeling bloated and sluggish after all the Christmas indulgence and now its the turn of our good ol’ friend Mr Moving Around.
Some of us hate exercise, some of us love it but I’m sure that almost all of you will agree that nothing shakes away a hangover like a getting out into the fresh air and moving!
So many people spend their festive season chilling on the sofa which is all well and good (hey, I love doing it) but it can lead to you feeling sluggish and demotivated. Once you get used to it, it can be hard to find the energy to get up and get moving, which is pretty detrimental if you need to be back to work at the beginning of January.
With that in mind, my third and final suggestion as to how to kick start your new year is to go walking. Get out in the fresh air and move around. This isn’t about weight loss, working up to running a marathon or even getting fit, it is simply about getting you moving and its as good for your mindset as it is for your body. Lets face it, the TV is usually so good over Christmas and I’ll be the first to admit that I spend far too long watching it over the festive season.
Last year, my family and I went for a short walk around a local park at the very beginning of the year and it was life changing- why hadn’t I done this before?! I usually found my routine was so hard to get back into after Christmas as I always felt so tired, despite having loads of sleep. After my experience last year, I now know that actually, I was sleeping too much and not moving around enough.
Walking in the outdoors really blew away the cobwebs and by the time I got home, I was ready to go out for another walk. I felt revived and refreshed. Its something that I tried to keep up all year as I could really feel the benefits but I must admit, I wasn’t as consistent with it as I would have liked to have been. In 2016, I’ll have more me time which is when I plan to be able to dedicate more time to activities that I enjoy like being in the outdoors.
When you’re going out for a walk, its important to wear the right footwear. Now I’m by no means an expert in this field but I have found a brand of shoes that work really well for me and that’s the Sketchers Go Walk range. If you’re a regular reader of my blog then you might remember me reviewing a pair that I bought in this post and this new pair are no different.
They are so incredibly light underfoot that walking in them is easy as you don’t feel as though you’re actually wearing anything on your feet. They’re as light as air and the pads on the bottom give you plenty of grip on the road, cushion the feet and absorb shock and they give you an added bounce to your step. Inside they’re so comfortable and supportive and they don’t rub at all. Plus they’re a true to size fit that doesn’t slop around when I’m walking.
I’ve recently returned from Poland and I wore these for the whole trip for all of our excursions and they didn’t hurt my feet once. The black colour is great because it makes them look a little smarter and they went perfectly with all of my casual outfits.
Now as you know, I’m a big girl and my body does put a lot of pressure on my feet. These shoes are honestly an absolute godsend for me as they enable me to walk far further than I could in other trainers and shoes. I wanted to share them with you again on here as I know that its the time of the year when people do decide to become more active.
