Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been trying out a fabulous subscription service called Degustabox.
While I’m sure you’re all familiar with beauty boxes, this one is different as its a food and drinks box, packed full of delicious treats for you to cook with and snack on.
When customers sign up, they’re sent a monthly box with 10 to 15 new products inside to try. Some are from emerging brands while others are firm favourites that you’ll probably already recognise as household names.
The fantastic thing about Degustabox, aside from getting to try so many new products, is that you’re able to do so for much less than they’d cost if you were to buy them individually in the shops. This is great as it saves you money and allows you to experiment with new foods without wasting too much money if you don’t enjoy something.
The August Degustabox came with such a variety of products that I really think there’s something for everyone inside.
What I love the most about this months box is the selection of drinks inside; talk about pleasing everyone! There’s the Lime & Ginger Green Tea from Clipper Tea (£1.59) which is ideal for giving you a kick in the morning. Its is a great alternative to coffee for those looking for something to perk them up and the taste is delicious; subtle and not bitter like some green teas can be.
The Get More Vitamins Drink (£1.45) is idea for those who want something thats sweeter and more interesting than water but that isn’t packed full of sugar. It is a low calorie drink, made with carbonated spring water, natural flavours and plenty of vitamins and minerals to give you a boost. I had the sparkling lemon and lime flavour which had a bit of a kick to it and was great for cleansing my palette after lunch.
Also inside the box were two other drinks and subscribers to the box will receive one or the other. I haven’t had the chance to try these yet as they’re currently in the fridge, ready for a movie night once I’ve finished writing up this post! However the drinks are the Fentimans Sparkling Lime and Jasmine (£2.79) premium adult soft drink (I’ve tried lots of the Fentimans drinks before and they’re DELICIOUS!) and the Mahou Cinco Estrellas premium lager (£1.20) which is made in Madrid using the finest varieties of hops and yeast to create a well balanced taste.
A lot of the ingredients in the box lend themselves well to snacking, perhaps with a movie. The Willy Chase’s Fit Corn (£2.19) was a great hit with my hubby. This brand makes popcorn on their farm in Herefordshire, so you couldn’t get any more British!
The flavour that we received was the Apple Cider vinegar which would have been up my street had it been as a flavour for crisps but it wasn’t to my taste for popcorn as I prefer sweet & salty varieties. My hubby however loved his first bowl and he’ll no doubt be enjoying the rest of the bag later today… he says that they’re very much a once you start, you can’t stop kind of snack!
My favourite snack has to the the Oloves which are juicy green olives, seasoned with chilli, garlic and oregano. They’re pretty heavily flavoured which I love and they’re softer than other green olives I’ve had which again, I prefer as I think they taste better. These are a great snack as they’re low in calories and full of natural goodness. Plus, they don’t have any stones so they’re great for enjoying on the go, popping in lunch boxes or even taking into the cinema with you!
I do think that at £1, these are a little over priced for the number that you get however they are delicious and I think they’d make a great treat now and again.
If you’re someone who loves cheese and crackers then I’m sure you’ll love the Rakusen’s Plain (£1.29) and Gluten-Free Snackers (£1.49) that came in the box.
They were far too dry for me, as all crackers are, but again one my hubby and my dad loved them, especially with cream cheese on top or my famous guacamole. I love that they have a gluten-free option too as I have a friend with a gluten allergy and have experienced first hand how difficult it is for her to find foods to suit her intolerance.
For meals on the go, the Nutripots (£2.49) in this box are fantastic. There’s the Aromatic Thai Noodles Nutripot which you simply add water to and enjoy its spicy flavour while getting 50% of all of the 28 vitamins and minerals that your body needs daily as well as plenty of protein and fibre.
Then theres the Moroccan Couscous Nutripot which was my favourite of the two as I made it at home and added some chicken and pepper to it on my plate for quick, tasty lunch. This one contains a low of protein to keep you feeling fuller for longer and its low in saturated fat, has no added sugar and is free from artificial colours or preservatives. This is great news to me as so many on-the-go foods are full of all of these things!
Our Degustabox contained several items to cook with. Firstly the Tabasco Sweet and Sticky Barbecue Sauce and Marinade (£1.99) which is absolutely DELICIOUS and just the right balance between the hot, smoky chipotle and sweet barbecue flavours. We’ll definitely be repurchasing this sauce and we’ll be using the money off coupon that came inside the box too!
Secondly, the Geeta’s Curry Pastes (2 x £1) of which we received the Tikka and Rogan Josh flavours. Both have a medium level of spice and after trying out the Rogan Josh flavour a couple of nights ago, I’d say that’s pretty accurate. These sachets create enough for two people which is ideal whether you’re dining with your partner or cooking for one and leaving the remainder for lunch or dinner the next day. I’m going to make the tikka one this week and try the rest of the dish inside a tortilla wrap for lunch the day after. I’ll report back to you on Twitter to let you know how that works out!
This was my first time trying out anything from the Geeta’s range and I have to say that I’m really impressed. The authentic indian flavour is definitely there and the blend of spices in just right. We received a pot of their Premium Mango Chutney inside too which was delicious with poppadoms. I’ve saved half to use in a side dish when I cook the Tikka this week as I’ve found a recipe online… I’m just hoping it tastes as good when I cook it as it looks in the image!
The last item that I received in my box is actually my favourite of all and thats the Dorset Cereals Bircher Muesli (£3.49). Its a little like making overnight oats but in record time as Dorset Cereals have created a bircher mix containing finely milled oats and dried fruit that can be soaked and enjoyed in only 30 minutes which is far quicker than the overnight soaking period that you usually give to bircher muesli.
The box that I received was the Raspberry and Blackcurrant flavour and it even came with a scoop so that you can achieve the perfect measurement. I’ve been enjoying this most mornings, topped off with a few strawberries and the result really is delicious; perfect for the summer months as its cooling but creamy and sweet at the same time. I’ll definitely be buying another box when it runs out!
Each Degustabox is an affordable £12.99, with free shipping and although you sign up for a monthly delivery, you’re not tied into a contract and can cancel at any time; can’t say fairer than that! You also have the option of giving Degustabox as a giftwith the option of boxes for 1, 3 or 6 months.
I have a discount code for you all too; enter 88AHT to get your first box for only £5.99!
