Day to day, your bag may be filled with so many items that you could give Mary Poppins a run for her money but when it comes to a night out, you need to really refine your selection in order for everything that you need to fit inside your clutch.
While clutch bags do vary in size and shape, by nature they are compact and only designed to carry your essentials so that you can spend more time focusing on enjoying your night out. Who wants to spend all night in the loos touching up a full face of makeup anyway?
Featuring a gold glitter hard case with a crystal bow on top and dark, floral satin lining, it really is a beauty. I got it on sale at House of Fraser three years ago for a cracking deal (£50 down from £129!) and it still looks as good as new! You can check out my haul post from back then here. I really like to invest in great quality clutch bags in classic styles as I really look after them and keep them for countless years. House of Fraser is my favourite place to shop at because they always have the best selection of products and incredible sales.
Although this one isn’t available anymore, I’ve listed plenty of alternatives from a range of price points, in the ‘shop the post’ section at the bottom of this post so that you can get the look too.
Now, lets see what I keep inside…
Regardless of the bag that I’m carrying, I’ll always start with the essential essentials first; keys, money and phone.
My keys can be watered down by slipping my front door key off my keyring and sliding it into a card holder along with my driving license for ID, credit card and some cash if I have it, so that condenses easily.
My iPhone 6s on the other hand, is a little bulky to say the least with its seemingly indestructible cover on but its certainly an essential as I couldn’t be without it.
I fill up the rest of the space in my bag with anything else that I need for the evening, such as tickets, and then beauty products suited to the look I’m wearing and the time of the year.
Whenever I apply my makeup, I like it to be as long lasting as possible so that touch ups are kept to a minimum but if I’m out eating or drinking then I’ll always need my lip colour to top up with.
I always apply a lip liner before my lipstick and/or lip gloss so that when it starts to wear off, my lips are still stained with the colour of the that I’m wearing that night. Then I take the product that I use last in my lip combo out with me which is either a lipstick or a gloss. In this case, it was the Joan Collins Timeless Beauty Glorious Gloss Lipgloss in Marina.
I adore the formulation of the Glorious Glosses because they’re so smooth and comfortable to wear as they’re not too sticky or tacky. They’re long lasting and look great whether they’re worn alone or over another lip product. It is the perfect glossy to wear if you’re out eating or drinking as it stays put and wont smear across your face and when it does wear, it does so evenly. No one likes to have an unsightly ring around their lips and you definitely don’t get that with this.
Marina is a rich toffee shade with subtle gold shimmer running through it that catches the light beautifully. I wore it over the top of a lip liner in a very similar colour and the found that the gloss really made my lips pop. The high gloss finish along with the hint of shimmer leaves my lips looking full, juicy and plump which is a look that I love.
With the cold weather creeping in, my hands are starting to suffer. I tend to get dermatitis on the palms of my hands and I have a patch of psoriasis on my wrist that just wont go away. Keeping my hands moisturised and soft is essential, especially my wrist as if I leave it to try out, it cracks, bleeds and becomes really painful. The psoriasis also looks more noticeable when this happens too so keeping the area hydrated helps me aesthetically too.
To ensure my hands stay soft when I’m out in the cold, I take a small hand cream out with me. The Roger and Gallet Sublime Hand and Nail Cream (also referred to as Roger & Gallet Bois d’Orange Hand Créme Sublime) has been a favourite of mine all summer long and I’m now onto my second tube.
This handy 30ml size fits perfectly into my clutch and ensures that my hands stay soft while I’m out. The cream is very rich and indulgent feeling, yet it sinks into the skin quickly and doesn’t leave my hands feeling greasy or tacky. It contains Argan Oil and Evening Primrose Oil within the formula to nourish and protect the skin.
It is fragranced with the scent of Mandarin, Orange Blossom and Amber and the effect is luxurious and soothing, not over powering at all and it doesn’t irritate my sensitive hands either. My hands are left feeling hydrated, nourished and smelling beautiful after I’ve used this hand cream and the effect is long lasting.
There is an SPF 15 included within the formula. Our hands are often a tell tale sign of our age as while everyone is busy taking care of the skin on their face, they tend to forget their hands which end up showing lines, age spots and sun damage, giving away our real time of life.
Smelling good at all times is really important to me. Its something that I’m quite self conscious of, so I’ll always make sure that I’ve used a great deodorant and often a body cream before I leave the house and then I take the fragrance that I’m wearing that night out with me. I like my scents to have a lot of depth to them, to feel indulgent and dare I say it, to smell expensive.
On this occasion, I was wearing the Narciso Poudrée perfume by Narciso Rodriguez which has been my go-to evening scent since I got it a couple of weeks ago. I’ll be reviewing it in full soon but if you like scents that feel decadent, feminine and sensual then you’ll love this perfume.
With top notes of Bulgarian Rose and White Jasmine, a heart of Powdery Musk which is where the scent gets its name and a base of Vetiver and Black Cedar, this is one of those fragrances that you just can’t stop smelling.
While the creamy nude bottle is nothing short of stunning, I like to keep it on my dressing table and decant some into a Travalo to make it more clutch bag friendly. A Travalo is essential for me when I’m heading out or travelling and I have so many in my collection for each of my favourite and most used fragrances.
The last beauty essential in my clutch bag has to be my Chanel Poudre Universelle Compacte Natural Finish Pressed Powder. My skin is super oily so its really important that I have a pressed powder in my bag to eliminate shine and touch up.
While I really focus on creating a long lasting makeup base before I leave the house, if its really hot when I’m out then I like to be prepared to touch up my makeup and get rid of the oil. I wear the shade 30 Naturel which is perfect for my skintone when I’m wearing a full face of makeup.
The compact has handy a mirror inside the lid and comes with a velvet pouch to protect the makeup compact as well as the inside of my bag.
Once my clutch bag is filled, I’m ready to head out on my autumn nights out knowing that I’ve got all of my essentials with me!
