Avene Extremely Gentle Cleanser

I’ve been attending lots of events lately which have meant that I’ve been wearing a full face of make up on a regular basis.  When it comes to cleansing, I use my Riosonicleanse every morning and night but when I’ve been wearing make up, I like to take it off with a cleanser on a cotton pad first and then I deeply cleanse with the face brush afterwards.

The cleanser I’ve been using over the last few weeks is the Extremely Gentle Cleanser from Avene.  Rich in thermal spring water, this cleanser is perfect for even the most sensitive of skins as it is very gentle, non abrasive and doesn’t sting.  The cleanser is a white, fairly liquid but almost gel like lotion.  I squirt a ten pence sized amount onto one of my large cotton pads from Superdrug, fold the pad in half to evenly spread the cleanser and then I wipe it over my face in sweeping motions to remove my make up.  It has a no rinse, tissue off formula which means that you don’t have to wash your face in the sink after use, you could just skip straight to your toner.  Personally, I like to use my face brush afterwards so I do rinse my face.  I find that the Extremely Gentle Cleanser does a good job at removing the majority of my make up, the thick of it so to speak and then the face brush ensures the very last bits are off.  If you don’t have a face brush like mine from Very, you could always used a warm towelling face cloth or a muslin cloth.  The cleanser leaves my usually oily skin feeling soft and it doesn’t make it feel tight, irritated or dry.

A 200ml bottle of the Extremely Gentle Cleanser from Avene is £8.00 from Boots.

Hi Laura, I have been enjoying this formula as a morning cleanser as it's so gentle. I also rinse with water (a damp face cloth) and wonder if this is ok? Do you think because it's a "tissue off" formula it's "wrong" to rinse with water? …I kinda feel like it doesn't really matter, but would be nice to get another opinion! Kirsty xp.s. Any other Avene products you would recommend?

Hi KirstyNah I don't think it matters at all, in fact that's how I've been using it lately. I repurchased this bottle after having a break and using another cleanser with a muslin cloth and when I bought this again I found that using it on a cotton pad just didn't work as effectively as using it over the sink with a wet face cloth.I really like the water spray that the do as a quick refresh and the serum from Avene. My favourite products though are there suncare range.xxx

Hi Laura, thanks for your reply. Just before I found your blog I actually emailed Avene (this might around a little over the top, but I've been having allergic reactions to Bismuth Oxychloride in eye makeup and don't want to exasperate the situation!). Anyway, they emailed me back (quickly, I'm really starting to like this brand!) and said, quote, "The Extremely Gentle Cleanser is designed to be removed with a cotton pad because it is for people with Very Sensitive Skin which can be irritated by harsh tap water. This being said, it is perfectly safe for you to rinse off."So there you go, you/we were right! :)I think I will definitely have a look at the other products you suggested, thanks again! Kirsty x
