You might have guessed from the title of this post that I don’t usually do red lips. My lip colour of choice is normally something nude, coral or pink. I’ve dabbled in bright shades on rare occasions but I’ve never really opted for something a littler darker as I’m always worried that it’ll end up all over my face. That’s why I opt for something a little lighter so that I can apply it without being too careful and go about my day worry free. However when I decided to go to a costume party dressed as a lady bird, it was time for me to go in search of a fuss free red lip.
My search led me to Kiko where I found their Long Lasting Colour Lip Marker. There are 8, fairly natural shades in total and I picked up colour 105 which is called True Red and it definitely is a true red shade. It’s a deep, very matte red hue.
The Kiko Long Lasting Colour Lip Marker comes in what is essentially, a felt tip pen. In my book, if it looks like a felt tip and works like a felt tip, then its a felt tip. It is so easy to use and very precise. The product itself works like a lip stain, giving your lips a flush of colour that stays put.
I need a mirror to apply it, simply because it is such a dark colour. The marker nib is slightly rounded which makes it really easy to line the lips precisely and then I use the side of the nib to fill in my lips. The lip colour comes out as a very light fluid and dries really quickly, within a few seconds. The first application is pretty dark but I have found that you can build it up by reapplying it once it is dry. It smells ever so slightly fruity when applied.
I’d recommend making sure your lips are nicely exfoliated before applying this product. It isn’t drying on the lips but it dries onto the lips so the more perfected your lips are initially, the better it will look. The Lip Marker feels really light and weightless on the lips, as though you’re not wearing anything on them.
I found the Kiko Lip Marker to be really long lasting. It stayed on my lips for hours until I went out to dinner where some of it wore off naturally as I drank. This lip stain would be a great option for occasions where you need to rely on your lip colour. I’m actually thinking of buying one of the lighter shades of this to use on my wedding day as I found that it was transfer resistant as well as long lasting which is great as it means it wont rub off when I smooch my hubby to be and it’ll last through all of the photos!
To give my lips the glossy appearance that I love, I added a clear gloss over the top of this lip stain and I loved the effect. Even with the gloss over the top, the lip marker still lasted ages on my lips. I kept my make up simple with my usual base and No7’s Spice blush which is like a red toned dark pink.
Kiko make up products are available in Kiko stores and online here. The Long Lasting Colour Lip Marker is £6.90.
