It’s funny how hair styles come and go. For the most part of this year I’ve been wearing my hair straight and volumised with the Victorias Secret style flicked out hair around my face but in recent weeks, I’ve gone back to big and volumised curls and whenever I’ve posted photos of my hair like this, a few of you have been asking what extensions I’m wearing and how I get my hair like that. I’m going to do a tutorial on how I get my big bouncing curls but I thought I’d start with a review of my hair extensions as ultimately, they make the look; I couldn’t create that hair hairstyle and many others that I wear without them.
My natural hair is so thin and fine that I can’t confidently go out on a night out without wearing my extensions because as soon as I get hot my hair sticks to my head and looks lank and awful. I’ve got a lot of hair, the texture of it is just too fine to create the volumised styles that I love. When I look for hair extensions, I seek those that are thick in order to give me volume. That’s my main priority rather than length. Of course I like my hair to look longer than my usual shoulder length locks but I look for volume first, then the length. When I first saw the double wefted extra thick clip in hair extensions on the ClipHair website, I knew I had to try them.
The Double Wefted Extra Thick Clip In Hair Extensions are made of 100% Silky Remy Human Hair. Whenever I buy hair extensions, I always look for human Remy hair as it is the highest grade of real human hair due to it being cuticle correct and therefore they provide the highest quality and gives the most natural look. Being cuticle correct means that all of the cuticles of the hair run in the same direction which means the hair remains virtually tangle free and super soft and silky to the touch. Remy hair has a natural sheen to it, like you can see picked up in the photo below, that synthetic hair can only achieve with an unnatural, plastic coating. Remy hair is the way to go girls!
Since the hair extensions are made of real human hair, they can be washed, dyed, cut and styled with heat to suit your own individual style. Over the past few weeks, I have worn these extensions curled, waved and straight and have had the pieces I wear at the front of my face feathered so that they blend in with my natural hair. They hold the style really well, particularly when curled with my Babyliss Curling wand. I have washed them once using my usual Ojon shampoo and conditioner and they dried perfectly, looking as good as when I first got them which proves to me how good quality they are.
The extensions are available in 15 (for £54.99), 18 (for £59.99), 20 (for £69.99) and 24 (for £89.99) inches which allows you to create the volume you want in your hair to a length that suits you. In the past I have bought extensions that were really thick but only came in very long length packs. I always have my extensions layered and feathered to give me a natural look that blends in with my own hair but in the past I’ve felt as though I was literally cutting away money when I’d paid a fortune for extensions for the volume but then had to have loads cut off because they were simply too long. The Clip Hair Extensions are different as they cater for all with a wide variety of styles, thicknesses, lengths and colours.
The colour I opted for was a mix of #18 the lightest brown shade and #613 which is a blonde shade and they match my hair perfectly. I love the look of the mixed shade hair extensions as they’re so natural looking and since they are multi tonal, they really add depth to my hair. Before ordering I used their free colour match service where I emailed Clip Hair with a description of my hair and a few photographs and received a lovely email back the next morning from Lesley, a colour technician, who expertly matched the shade of extensions to my hair colour and also recommended the type of extensions I should go for as these would be most suited to my hair. Her email was really personalised and I felt as though I could ask any questions I wanted to, as a company, Clip Hair weren’t trying to force me into a sale, they genuinely wanted to make sure I got the best extensions for my hair type so that I would be 100% happy with my extensions, which I am.
Each pack of the double wefted extensions contains two eight inch wide wefts with three clips per weft, two four inch wide wefts with two clips per weft and four two inch wide wefts with 1 clip per weft. This is more than enough for a full head of extensions on most people and creates gorgeous looking hair. Having the hair spread over smaller sections is great for if you’re doing a hair style that sits of the side of your head or on the top of your hair like a high bun or pony tail that needs extra hair to make it look full and thick. I sometimes wear my hair in a big bun low down on the side of my head so I clip in a a few rows right on the side of my head to give me some extra hair to feed through and over my bun ring.
The smaller size sectioning of the extensions makes them really easy to put in as well. I don’t operate a specific formula, I just section my hair off and clip them all, leaving the couple that I’ve had my hair dresser chip into for the front of my head to create shape around my face. They’re very quick and easy to put in and to take out which is perfect for me as I’m always rushing around at the last mintue when I’m getting ready for a night out!
Despite being double wefted and extra thick, the extensions do not weigh down the hair or add bulk and pull on it which can cause damage to the natural hair. This has a lot to do with the clips that are used on the extensions too as they have a silicone strip on them which not only holds the clip securely in place, meaning that once clipped in, they wont slide out, but they also reduce the damage to your natural hair too. I find that extensions which don’t have this silicone band have a tendency to be too harsh on the hair and almost razor some of it off. These ones are perfect and I haven’t found my hair to snap whilst wearing them at all. The clips are well hidden behind the extensions too and definitely cannot be seen, even when in my fine hair.
I actually wore my extensions in the photos above to a night out where I saw some work colleagues and it was only when I added them on Facebook and put a status on about taking my extensions out that they realised it wasn’t my real hair! I think that is a true test of hair extensions; for them to look and feel natural.
I got my hair extensions direct from the Clip Hair website and their delivery was super fast as I received them a couple of days after ordering them at night which I thought was fantastic service. They were really securely packaged too which is a bonus. They offer a few different delivery options, including world wide free delivery and next day by 1pm and 9am services in the UK for an additional charge.
