Creating A Relaxing Bedroom Retreat

Bedrooms are the place we often go to relax. Having a space that helps melt the stress of the day away is imperative for your mental health as well as good sleep hygiene.

However, bedrooms can be tricky to decorate and keep calm whilst balancing functionality. Here are some tips to help you spruce up your space and create a relaxing retreat.

Focus on textures and fabrics

Nothing says cosy quite like soft textures and fabrics. Adding the right layers to your room helps the space feel warmer and more inviting.

Start from the bottom and work up, so think about your bedding first. Opt for sumptuous linen or cotton sheets paired with a woollen throw on top for extra comfort. Mix different textures as well, so add in a couple of velvet cushions on the bed or a chair to finish the look.

Choose colours wisely

Certain colours evoke different emotions, so the palette you choose can impact your mood. Red, for example, evokes anger or passion and bright yellow is synonymous with happiness and energy. For calming tones, look at muted blues, soft greens or warm neutrals.

Whilst keeping this palette as your focus, sticking to one shade can leave a room feeling flat. Try to use textures and shades within the same colour family to add dimension.

Lighting matters

Having multiple lighting sources allows you to control how the room feels. Being able to use minimal light before bed helps you to unwind and prepare for sleep.

Traditional light sources are still helpful, such as desk lamps or the bedside version. Free-standing lamps are very useful for lighting dark corners, especially ones where you could read. For something a bit different, you could install lights behind your headboard or along the bottom of shelving. These will work as spotlights and highlight areas without being overwhelming or bright.

King-size bed as a centrepiece

Nothing beats a bed you can sink into and instantly feel your body relax. Having enough space to sleep comfortably alone or with a partner is one of the fundamentals of good sleep.

If you are looking to upgrade your bed, consider a beautiful king-size bed. Not only will you have a relaxing sleep, but it forms the perfect centrepiece of your room. Ensure a comfortable nights sleep with a Simba Hybrid Mattress, duvet and pillows. Pairing it with your favourite bedding will make for a beautiful sight at the end of a long day.

Keep the room clutter-free

As the saying goes, a cluttered space leads to a cluttered mind. There is some scientific truth in this as untidy environments can lead to decreased productivity and increased cortisol, which is detrimental to sleep.

Think about storage in your room. If your cupboards are already fit to burst, it’s time to get creative. Under-bed storage is perfect for tucking things away that you want to keep out of sight. Door hangers are a great way to maximise storage without taking up much space.
