My favourite type of night out has to be date night. I love going on dates with my hubby and I’m a firm believer that it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been together, date nights, or indeed days, are very important. It doesn’t matter how much money you spend or what you actually do, its all about taking time our of your busy lives to spend quality time together.
I love getting ready for date night; picking out my outfit, having a pamper and spending time on my hair and makeup. I’m always changing up the products that I use but generally I focus on having nicely manicured nails, a flawless complexion without looking over done, a beautiful fragrance and a pretty piece of jewellery, usually one that my hubby has treated me to.
Here are my current date night favourites…
2016 has been the year of nude, muted nails for me. I’ve worn natural hues all year and ditched the brights for the first time in my life. I’m loving the pretty feminine look and they don’t get much more pretty than the Essie nail polish in Not Just a Pretty Face which is a pinky nude that is perfect for a date night.
This is a really wearable nail polish that compliments a multitude of skin tones and looks great whether you’re wearing it during the day or at night, whether you’re at the office, out with the girls for lunch or dancing the night away at a Christmas party.
I bought quite a few Essie polishes at the beginning of the year and I’m really impressed with them. I’d tried a few some years ago but the brush and formula was completely different. The formula of the ones I have now is so much better.
Not Just a Pretty Face glides onto the nails and the smooth, even formula is opaque in one coat. Drying time isn’t too long and I get quite a few days of wear if I apply a base and top coat too. The shade range with Essie is incredibly extensive and I’m always so tempted to buy lots more, even though they’re so similar to ones that I already have!
To give my skin a flawless looking complexion, I’ve been using my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit which was an eye watering gamble when I bought it from Space NK this summer as I had never used an Hourglass powder before. After the first use, I was hooked.
These powders are literally INCREDIBLE; especially the shade Diffused Light which I will be repurchasing in the full size as soon as it runs out. Every powder from the blush to the bronzer and the highlight is stunning and sits beautifully on the skin. It is the perfect combination of powders for a date night because it gives your skin a really perfected, lit from within kind look which makes the most of your natural beauty but it doesn’t make up look cakey or overdone.
The palette that I have isn’t on sale now (I’m not sure if it is discontinued as I’d thought that they had brought it back permanently) but they have just release their new version, the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit in Surreal Light which comes in the most stunning marble packaging and would make an ideal Christmas gift for any beauty lover! If you follow me on Snapchat (WLLofficial) then you’ll know that I have this one too… review coming soon!).
For fragrance, I’m opting for the beautiful Elie Saab Le Parfum Rose Couture scent at the moment which you can read my full review of here. This is an ideal perfume for a date day or night because it has a sweet floral scent to it that settles down into a light fragrance which isn’t over powering.
This perfume has top notes of peony and rose, heart notes of jasmine, orange blossom and rose nectar and base notes of patchouli, sandalwood, vetiver and vanilla.
It smells pretty and feminine and makes me feel that way too but it isn’t so over the top that it will make your date sneeze!
My final date night favourite has to be my gorgeous Pandora Rose Hearts of Pandora Necklace which Mr WLL got me as a treat last month from the Pandora shop in Sunderland. I’ve worn it so frequently since as it looks great regardless of what time of the day I wear it.
Perfect for date nights, it sits quite high on my neck and sparkles beautifully without being a bit of bling. I love dainty pieces of jewellery that still look special for date nights as they look understated and classic. This necklace in particular is from the rose gold tone Pandora line and it has little crystals in a circular shape which catch the light beautifully.
They have earrings to match which I’m tempted to buy too but for now, I’ve been wearing it with some other rose gold studs that I have, or skipping earrings entirely and wearing it with my rose gold choker which makes a really pretty duo.
As you can see, my current date night favourites are all about enhancing my natural beauty, complimenting my current style and making me feel great which is generally how I like to approach life everyday!
Of course date nights aren’t about how you look, but if spending time getting ready and feeling your prettiest makes you smile from the inside out like it does for me, then I say go for it!
