This autumn, I have made a discovery; I seem to have reached the age where all of my friends are getting engaged and married. I’ve been invited to more weddings in the last few months than I ever have and with that comes the impending outfit shopping.
When I’m looking for a wedding guest outfit, one of my go-to brands has to be Little Mistress. I love their gorgeous range of designs and how they’re the kind of styles you could envisage a woman of any size wearing be it a 6, 16 or 26.
One of the best places to shop for Little Mistress dresses has to be Simply Be. Whether you’re shopping in store, online or even across the pond on their Simply Be US site, you’ll always find a great selection alongside lots of other gorgeous plus size dresses.
One of my favourites on the website right now is the Little Mistress Printed Maxi Dress, which I wore to a wedding earlier this month and will be re-wearing to a wedding in November too. I’m a big believer in buying quality over quantity so I really like to get my wear out of my clothes, even statement dresses such as this one.
The digital floral design is absolutely stunning and although it is against a white backdrop, the darker tones within the flowers make this dress perfectly suitable to wear for special occasions during the autumn and winter months too. I can see me getting so much wear out of this dress even going forward into next spring and summer.
The cut of this dress is fabulous because the pleated bodice and waist helps to create and enhance shape, the elasticated, stretchy back makes for a very comfortable fit and the floaty, lined skirt has so much room in it that the dress doesn’t pull or become too tight when sitting down. This is particularly important if you’re shaped like I am; I often struggle with chiffon or georgette style fabrics if they haven’t been cut with enough room in them but this one certainly has and its fully lined too.
Straps are supplied with the dress if you’d like to wear them but the dress holds itself up well so really it would just depend on whether you feel they’d be of benefit to you or the aesthetic of the dress. Personally, I prefer to go strapless and find that it really brings out the beauty in the shape of this dress; theres something subtly sexy about bare shoulders and with a gorgeous floaty dress like this, I felt like a total princess.
Of course, with a style such as this one, a good quality strapless bra is an absolute essential for keeping the girls in place and helping to enhance your overall shape within the dress.
I wear so many pieces that have cold shoulders, a racer back or are completely strapless so finding a strapless bra that keeps its shape wash after wash and holds me in place is essential and a worthwhile investment.
I paired mine with silver jewellery, shoes and clutch that I’ve had in my wardrobe for years now and I took a white pashmina out with me to drape across my shoulders when the cooler autumn air kicked in at night.
For the wedding in November, I think a white bolero or cardigan may be needed for a little extra warmth up top!
Love is definitely in the air for my friends at the moment and its so lovely to have so many special occasions coming up that I can share with them!
