As a self confessed girlie girl, I love wearing makeup but, I admit, I also love taking it off too.
There’s nothing better than coming home after a long day and thoroughly removing all of your makeup. To me, its as relaxation inducing as taking off my bra, putting on my comfiest PJs and scraping my hair up into a top knot.
My skincare routine always begins with a thorough cleanse as I’m a firm believer that if you don’t get the cleaning of your skin right then theres no point in investing in the rest. Your skin must be completely clean before applying any other products so as not to trap dirt in the skin.
The cleanser that I’ve been using since the middle of May is the Elemental Herbology Harmonising Cleanse which is from their Balance range; designed to balance oily areas of the skin while replenishing moisture levels and protecting the skin against free radicals. It is ideally suited to normal to combination skin.
This line is absolutely perfect for me as my skin is oily but dehydrated at the same time.
The great thing about Elemental Herbology is that they’re so open and honest with what is in their products. The Harmonising Cleanse is infused with 100% plant oils and you can see a full ingredients list along with an explanation of some of their patented formulas, etc on their website alongside each product. For this cleanser, head here and click on ‘ingredients’.
I’m sure regular readers will know by now that I’m not a fan of balm cleansers as I prefer a cream formula for my second cleanse, so I wasn’t sure what I would make of an oil cleanser. In short, I love it.
The Elemental Herbology Harmonising Cleanse is a fantastic oil cleanser that feels light weight on the skin. It surprisingly doesn’t feel very oily or greasy at all. The light texture glides over the skin and massages in so well.
Once I have distributed it across my dry face, I then wet my fingertips and use them to add a little water to my skin as I continue to massage the cleanser in. This turns the gel into a light milk that rinses clean from the skin with ease. I like to use a muslin cloth or flannel to help the process along as I like to lightly exfoliate my skin at the same time.
If I’ve been wearing makeup, I’ll either use this cleanser twice, once to remove my makeup and a second time to actually clean my skin, or I’ll go in with a micellar water on a cotton pad first of all and then follow up with this cleanser over the sink with a hot cloth.
If I’m not wearing makeup, perhaps if I’m cleansing my skin first thing on a morning then I’ll just use this oil cleanser on its own with a hot cloth as I don’t see a need to double cleanse in the AM.
After use, my skin looks and feels thoroughly clean. It works well at removing makeup without stinging my eyes and since it is an oil formula, it breaks down waterproof products really well. My skin is left feeling soft and since the oil formula is moisturising, my skin doesn’t feel tight or stripped at all. I love that it leaves my skin with a great base on which I can apply my other skincare products or makeup on top of.
This isn’t my first time trying Elemental Herbology products. In fact, I’ve been using their skin care for the last three years as I went along to Space NK to purchase a new skincare routine to get my skin in ship shape before my wedding.
Before I started using the Harmonising Cleanse, I was using the Elemental Herbology Cool and Clear Facial Cleanser which is an antibacterial face wash type cleanser that gently foams to remove the skins impurities and balance the oil for a clearer, cleaner skin. This works really well for a morning cleanse as its so light and quite refreshing however I didn’t enjoy using it around my eye area and would always opt for something more heavy duty for my evening cleanse to remove my makeup. The Harmonising Cleanse fits the bill perfectly because I can use it morning or evening and for that reason, that’s the one I’d repurchase out of the too.
The other product that I’ve been using on and off for years now is the Elemental Herbology Moisture Milk which is an absolutely fantastic light moisturiser for oily skins. It glides onto the skin and sinks in so quickly so there’s no long waiting around before applying your makeup or hitting the pillow.
I’ve literally just finished this moisturiser so you’ll find it an empties post very soon. I’d definitely recommend it to those who have oily or blemish prone skin and I’m sure I’ll be repurchasing it when I next need a daytime moisturiser. I actually really want to try out the Age Support line from Elemental Herbology next as I’m becoming increasingly aware that I’m not getting any younger and fine lines are starting to appear on my skin.
Have you tried Elemental Herbology skincare before? What products would you recommend to me?
