Hello Everyone, I hope you’re all well 🙂
When I first bought my Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation and powder I had lots of requests for a review of both of them. After using it for a few weeks, I did put up a review on my Youtube channel but today I am going to properly review them for you now that I’ve been using it for a couple of months. Both my bottle and powder are still going strong despite using them everyday which is a great testament to how much you get in and how long they last. Both can be worn alone or together, I personally decided to buy the powder just to top up my face throughout the day and to ensure my skin stays looking shine free.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Vs Dior Skin Forever… Decisions Decisions!
I have quite clear, normal to oily skin and find that many foundations apply really well onto my skin on a morning but by lunchtime, they begin to slide off and make my skin look greasy. I had been using up a lot of old bottles of liquid foundation and some Bare Minerals foundation that I had but really felt that I needed something more full coverage and mattifying… so off I went to the Estee Lauder counter. I’d heard a lot about Estee Lauder Double Wear and also about the Dior Skin Forever which is supposed to be similar to Double Wear. Double Wear won for me as I’d heard the most about it. I’ll definitely be trying out Dior Skin Forever when I have used up this though, just to make sure I made the correct decision.
Stay in place, transfer free, mattifying, oil and shine free foundation that leaves your skin looking flawless. With the liquid foundation claiming to last for 15 hours and the powder claiming to last for 10, my expectations of Estee Lauder have a lot to live up to.

Selecting a Shade
I would highly recommend getting samples of DW before you commit to buying it, purely to make sure that the colour is right for you. There are many other reviews of Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation that agree because the foundation is an investment and you need to make sure that it is going to look flawless on your skin.
I visited Debenhams and was colour matched with Ivory Beige but then went to House of Fraser and was matched with 2W1 Sand 36 in the liquid foundation which is completely different- much more of a yellow shade. I prefer a yellow based foundation as it cancels out a lot of the red tones that I have in some areas of my face. My hair is quite a light blonde naturally and I have dark eyes (unusual for a blonde!) so I have quite sallow skin tones and a salmon, pink toned foundation like the Ivory Beige just does not suit me at all- check out my YouTube video below to see the stark contrast between the two shades. There is such a wide range of shades available from Estee Lauder though that it is easy to find a shade to suit you, you just have to be careful that you’re being matched to the correct colour as the bright lights in department stores are very deceiving. Don’t be afraid to go with your gut instinct as I did and go against the advice of the girls at the counter and always get a sample first. Theres no point in spending all that money on a good foundation if its the wrong colour. I also bought the powder to use with my liquid foundation and the colour I chose was 2W1 Sand 16. There aren’t as many shades available in the powder but this isn’t a problem as long as you have the right shade of foundation underneath, as only a light dusting of the power is needed.

The liquid foundation is very powder based which makes it a godsend for oily skin but feared by those with normal to dry skin. If you have normal skin to oily then you’ll be fine with this foundation but I really wouldn’t suggest it for people with dry skin as the high powder content makes it very drying. If your skin is more combination or oily with dry patches, I would recommend wearing a moisturiser underneath the Double Wear foundation, even people with oily skin who don’t wear a moisturiser under their make up can benefit from a layer under their Double Wear. Again though, this is where getting a sample before hand can prove very valuable as you’ll be able to tell from a few wears if this is going to be the right foundation for you. Both the liquid and powder formulas are very buildable. Both the liquid and powder contain an SPF of 10. As a general rule, if you’re going to have your photograph taken then you should stay away from foundations that contain an SPF because it reflects the light from the flash and can make your face look lighter than your body. However Estee Lauder promises that Double Wear is photo friendly and since I have tested this out when having my photo taken during the day and on an evening, I can concur with this. Double Wear therefore is great for keeping your skin safe in the sun and great for when you’re having your picture taken- result!
|You can use a brush like this but I prefer to use my fingers|
Double Wear liquid can be applied using a brush like the one in the photo above or using your finger tips as demonstrated in my videos below. Since Double Wear liquid has a high powder content and is therefore fast drying, I like to use my fingers to apply it as this keeps the foundation warm and gives you a little extra time to apply it and blend it in. As you can see in my Youtube video, I like to blend it all over my face and down onto my neck. There’s nothing worse than seeing someone whos neck is a completely different colour to their face! As for the power, I tend to use a pressing motion to get the powder onto my face, using the pad that comes in the compact. Pressing the powder onto my face rather than sweeping it on stops me from dragging the liquid foundation off my face and onto the pad. Double wear provides a fast, even application with fantastic coverage.

Estee Lauder describe the Double Wear liquid foundation as medium coverage but in all honesty I would say it is more medium to full coverage. Its certainly the most full coverage foundation I’ve ever used and it covers all my flaws. If you’re looking for a foundation that hides all your imperfections and gives you flawless looking skin then this is the foundation for you. There is also a Double Wear concealer available, which if you’re going to buy I’d recommend going one shade lighter than the Double Wear foundation you’ve bought, just to really conceal any discolouration. However, rather than spending the £18.50 on the concealer, I would recommend just leaving a little bit of the foundation on the back of your hand to dry slightly (it doesn’t take long!) before applying that to the areas you want to conceal as this works in exactly the same way. If you like a long lasting foundation but you find that Double Wear is too heavy for you, then you could try the Double Wear Light which works on the same principle as the original Double Wear, it just has a lighter, more sheer formula. Similarly, if you love Double Wear but would prefer an even fuller coverage foundation, then Estee Lauder also offer a Maximum Cover version.
Estee Lauder Double Wear is designed to stay in place all day and long lasting it certainly is. Double Wear has great staying power and it doesn’t transfer onto my clothes. This will be great for in the winter when I wear a lot of scarves. I love the finish it gives as it really does make my skin look natural and flawless. I’ve heard some people say that it feels too heavy on their skin but I honestly cant tell that I have it on and it doesn’t look cakey at all. I do however think that I need something slightly lighter for the summer, especially when I go on holiday as I wont need something as full coverage when I have a tan and so I will definitely be trying out the Double Wear Light in the coming months. I love how I can wear my make up with confidence now as I used to get so embarrassed by my oily skin. Double Wear leaves me shine free and stops my skin from getting oily without clogging my pores. I also find that my other make up applies much better when I use this as my base and I find that even my cheaper products look more high quality when they are applied on top of this foundation.
Price and Packaging
The Double Wear liquid foundation retails at £25.50 for 30ml and the powder compact is also £25.50 for 13g which is a pretty average price charged across the board from other high end brands. I’d say the quality of the foundation is definitely worth the price tag and it lasts for ages. If theres one thing you spend a lot of money on in your make up bag then let it be a good foundation as your other, cheaper make up will sit much better on a good base. Everything about the Estee Lauder foundation screams class and expense, even down to the high quality packaging which is in the signature Estee Lauder style. I love how the compact looks very classy and its great pulling it out of my bag to powder my nose during the day! You get a big mirror inside the powder compact too which is great for when you’re on the go. The only thing that I dislike about the packaging is the pot of liquid foundation. I hate that you have to pour the foundation out- it would be so much easier with a pump and then I wouldnt waste any or risk spilling it everywhere!

If you buy Estee Lauder from their website or from makeup counters in department stores then they often have offers on where if you buy two products then you get a free gift. Usually I’m not tempted by these offers if there isnt a second product that I like but I had intended to buy the two products anyway and it was nice to receive a little gift… It kind of made spending all that money even more worthwhile!

Changing my mind on Estee Lauder
Before now, I’d only ever tried out an Estee Lauder lipstick in Beige which is one of their Pure Colour Long Lasting Lipsticks but that’s about it. I think Estee Lauder is often over looked by younger make up lovers, in favour of more cool brands like MAC and Illamasqua, as it is more associated with middle aged women and older. I’ve definitely changed my mind about Estee Lauder since trying Double Wear. Yes, its pricey but its such high quality that it is worth it. Just make sure you try a sample first so that you definitely get the right formula and shade for your skin and to make sure that it isn’t too drying for your skin type. A good quality foundation will stand you in good stead for applying your other make up and for making your make up last. I’ll definitely be trying out some other Estee Lauder make up soon. I really like the look of their Bronze Goddess Duo and their 5 Tone Blush in Pink Shimmer.
If you’re looking for an alternative to Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation, perhaps one thats lighter but with similar staying power, then I’d definitely recommend checking out my Estee Lauder Double Wear Light review blog post and the comparison that I did of Double Wear vs Double Wear Light.
I hope you enjoyed this review- I know a lot of you have been asking for it since I bought it!
