Are you tired of working for the big guys? Are you looking to boost your regular income?

These are just two of the reasons why you might want to start your own business from home. Many people have already done so, with statistics from a couple of years ago stating a growth of over 2.7 million people in the UK running a home-based business. If they are doing it, then why don’t you?

It doesn’t have to be anything big – you don’t necessarily need to be the next Steve Jobs spearheading something that will one day become enormous – as you might simply decide to set up an eCommerce business as a way to make a little extra money each week. Of course, if you do want to become the next big thing, don’t let us stop you. Amazon, Google, and Microsoft are just a few of the big businesses that started at home

Of course, you might decide against the idea, especially if you don’t want to risk failure. With so many people already starting their own businesses, you might assume there is too much competition out there.

Yes, you will have competition, but by finding your own niche, you can make your own mark on the world. You can easily market your business through your own website and social media channels, and by taking steps to make your business look professional – you can even create a virtual company street address to pretend that you aren’t working from home – you can give yourself a good start.

So, could you start your own business from home? There is a lot of advice on the internet on how to start a business and the things you need to consider, so you won’t be short of help if you decide to take that entrepreneurial step. Below are just some of the reasons why you might give the idea some serious consideration.

If you are sick and tired of answering to the boss at the head of the company you currently work for, then you can finally say goodbye to their rule when you start out on your own at home. The only person you will be answering to is yourself, and while you will need to motivate yourself to work hard, you won’t have to listen to anybody else telling you how to do your job.

If you’re happy in your job, you don’t need to quit if you want to start a business from home. Instead, work on your business in your free time and start small so you don’t burn yourself out with exhaustion. You will then be able to boost your regular income, and that will give you more money for your savings fund, extra funds for family holidays or any luxuries you are looking to buy, and the opportunity to get out of debt. If you do start earning big money, you might one day decide to take it on full time, but it’s up to you. Big or small, your business will be yours to do what you want with it.

Very few of us have jobs that fall in line with our personal passions. For some of us, going to work each day is a chore rather than a pleasure. So, this is another reason why you might want to start your own business. You can do something based on one of your hobbies, be it selling cakes if you love baking, creating blog posts for others if you enjoy writing, or any one of these hobby-based business ideas. Be it full or part-time, you will have more motivation to work on your business if it is something that fuels the flames of passion inside you.

Many of us don’t work, and that is because we have families to look after. When we have to work around the times set by schools and nursery groups, we don’t have the luxury to begin high-flying careers, unless we have the funds to hire a nanny or have people to child mind for us. Thankfully, this is why starting a business from home is a good idea. You don’t have to worry about not being around to pick up the kids from school, as you can base your office hours around them. You can also work on your business when they’re tucked up in bed, or when they are otherwise engaged in something at home.

When your kids see you working hard, they might be more inclined to get on with their homework projects. When your friends see that you have made a success of your business, they might have the incentive to start up on their own too. And if you do start to make a name for yourself in your local community, you might inspire a legion of other people to start their own businesses. In short, you could be the shining star that many other people look up to!

Many people are hesitant to start a business because they don’t think they can. And for all we know, you might be under the same impression. However, if you have already considered starting your own business, it would be a shame not to go through with it. You might actually experience a knock to your self- confidence if your nerves get the better of you. However, if you do decide to step out of your comfort zone, you might discover that you do have the potential to make your business work. You will develop new skills on your business journey, and you will grow in learning when you gain new experiences. And while there will sometimes be hurdles in your way, once you start leaping over them as you overcome your challenges, you will do much to boost your confidence. It’s all about having the right mindset – I can, rather than I can’t!

So, what do you think? Could you start a business from home? It’s not for everybody, but if you have ever considered the possibility, then perhaps today is the day you create a plan of action to get something off the ground!

We wish you every success if you do.
