Yesterday, at long last, the eagerly anticipated clothing line from Gemma Collins was launched online. When I first met Gemma back in May she promised her collection would be worth waiting for and it certainly is. The pieces are everything I look for in an outfit; glamorous, feminine and sexy. The clothing line is a breath of fresh air in plus size fashion as it breaks the dowdy, unfashionable mould that is often created by plus size retailers. You’ll know from my WhatLauraWore outfit posts that I love looking glamorous but the style of clothes that I like to wear are often hard to find and I spend ages looking online and in shops to find dresses which fit, flatter and above all are glamorous. This will now be a thing of the past as the Gemma Collins Collection is a one stop shop for the fashion conscious woman.
The clothes are young, modern, colourful and bang on trend. With this clothing line, gone are the days of feeling repressed in a black sack, as they allow you to show off your curves and express your personality, wear something bold and make a statement that plus size girls can look glamorous and gorgeous too. When I first planned this post, I’d intended to select some of my favourite items from the online store but I never envisaged that it would be such a difficult task; every piece in the collection is something I would wear!
I’ve finally narrowed it down to my top 5 picks from the current collection and here they are:
|My top 5 picks from www.gemmacollinsofficial.com/store|
1, Los Angeles, £35 available in black, fuchsia and coral. Ultra flattering dip back dress with a young and contemporary style, perfect to wear with leggings or over a tankini on holiday.
2, Chicago, £85 in pale pink. This is a beautiful sparkly sequin tunic dress that would make the perfect show stopping outfit for any night out.
3, St Tropez, £45 in red/navy. I absolutely love the design of this dress, the colours compliment each other so well and I haven’t seen anything similar to this in the shops. There’s a matching cardigan too which the dress also looks great with.
4, Johannesburg, £35 in black/white. This zebra print dip back dress would look perfect belted with some black gladiator sandals. Perfect for holidays.
5, Venice, £60 available in black/gold and green/gold. I love the chain print on this dress, its luxurious, its bold and it is cut to flatter with the v neck and wrap shape.
The Gemma Collins Collection is available on her website here and will soon be available from Simply Be, in sizes 16 to 22 with some dresses already available up to a 24 and in future collections, the clothes will be available up to a size 30. Many items are available in other colours too which is great if you’re the kind of person who finds an outfit they love and likes to buy it in other shades. After all, if you find a dress that is cut to flatter your shape and makes you look and feel glamorous then why not have it in other colours, if it’s not broke, don’t fix it!
The online store is easy to navigate, has a sparkling, girlie design and features Gemma modelling each item herself which is fantastic as shoppers can get to see what the item looks like on a true plus size girl. Each piece flatters her curves and you can tell just by looking at the photos that the clothes have been cut specifically for a plus sized figure. When I asked Gemma about her clothing line she told me how important it was for her to focus on the length of the garments. I’m sure many of you will agree that when you’re a curvy girl with an ample chest, a bit of a tummy or a curvy bum, items come up shorter on you. I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve tried a dress on that looked a great length on the size 12 model but was much more risqué on my figure. Judging by the photographs of the Gemma Collins Collection, Gemma has paid great attention to the length of the clothes and also the cut to make sure there is something to suit every shape. There is a good mix of short and long dresses for the times when you do and don’t want to get your legs out, sleeveless, short and mid-length sleeves and v neck, slash, scoop and round necklines. Already there is a great selection available and with plans to expand the range further, it can only get better!
To me, the Gemma Collins Collection is the ultimate clothing line for fashionable, curvy girls, especially those who have watched shows like TOWIE and always wanted to recreate the glamorous outfits the girls wear but never had the option to because the style of clothes wasn’t available in their size.
All that’s left to say is CONGRATULATIONS Gemma, you’ve done us bigger girls proud!
