My birthday is coming up next month and I’m trying to decide what to do to celebrate. I usually go out with Mr WLL for dinner or for a weekend away somewhere and then I tend to do something with my friends too.
The trouble is that I have friends in lots of different friendship groups so that usually means several smaller get togethers rather than one big one. However this year is a bit different as I do have quite a few friends who know one another now as they met at our wedding. So to save on funds, I’m thinking about trying to get a small group together to do something all together rather than splitting off into separate nights out.
I’m not really a fan of clubbing these days and I don’t really want to go out and get blind drunk and come home with one shoe so I was thinking about something a little more toned down. One option was a day out in York which is about an hour and a half away from me but another friend is doing that for her birthday now so I don’t want to end up going twice in one month. Another option was to have a spa day or go for afternoon tea but then I thought about combining these two ideas and having something at home instead, perhaps a PJ party or a traditional girlie slumber party with lots of pampering, good food and lots of laughs.
I’ve been having a look online and I definitely think that some large floor cushions or bean bags would make everyone feel comfortable and ready to chill out. I find that having cosy throws and blankets around the room and on the sofa and chairs helps people to feel at home as well and they can wrap themselves up in them if they’re feeling a little chilly. I always have throws on in my living room and bedroom and I often find that when my friends come over, they snuggle up in them anyway so they would definitely like them at a slumber party!
I think that it would be a really sweet idea to give each of the girls a pair of slippers when they come into the house and perhaps an eye mask too for later on when we’re relaxing or sleeping if they’re staying over. These don’t have to be expensive but they will act as a really cute and memorable gift, plus they’re something that they’ll use while at the slumber party.
For food, I’d buy a pretty floral cake stand and serve an afternoon tea style spread with finger sandwiches, cakes and scones as well as lots of other sweet treats served on pretty tableware. I’ve always loved the look of the party food that you can order from places like M&S and Costco so if I end up going with this idea then thats where I’ll be heading for the food whereas for drinks, I think I’ll skip the tea and head straight to cocktails and punch. There are some beautiful glassware pieces that you can buy that you can bring out time and time again at so many occasions and parties. I particularly like the idea of making Pimms, Sangria or punch and having it out on the table in a glass jug with lots of pretty glasses to pour it into.
The last essential that I definitely think that I would have to consider would be the entertainment and beauty items. A good rom com never goes a miss with my friends and my Netflix and Amazon Prime accounts have plenty of those so I’m all sorted on that front. For beauty, I’d definitely set out my foot spa and then I’d lay out a tonne of nail polishes and body creams to use as well as a varied choice of face masks; Glamglow are my favourite and I particularly love this set as it has a varied choice of their products in handy one-two use sizes which makes it great for use at a slumber party and more cost effective too.
I’d love to know what you think of my idea to have a traditional girlie sleepover for my birthday. I think its definitely something fun and different to what any of my friends have done in recent years and it beats a night out in town any day in my opinion.
All I need now is to throw on my favourite plus size onesie and invite the girls over…!
