Hanna has impeccable taste, with a great eye for fashion which makes her a great stylist. When she asked me if I’d like to come over to try out a new style and take some outfit photos, I was totally up for it.
This look was the result:
Hanna really pushed me out of my comfort zone with this look. I rarely wear skirts because I never seem to find them fitting well on me. As I found out during this little styling session, it’s because I’ve always been trying to wear them around my middle rather than high waisted like this one in these photos.
It is from ASOS and it is actually from their main range in a size 18. Since I was wearing it high waisted, I could wear a far smaller size than I would usually wear, had I been buying it to wear around my middle. I actually much prefer the fit of the skirt when worn in this way as if I wear wearing it how I usually would, it would fall too far below the knee for my liking. You can find a similar skirt up to a size 18 here and a similar plus size skirt here.
Since I was showing a bit of leg, I felt more confident wearing a polo neck jumper than I thought I would be. I tend to prefer pieces that are a lot more lower cut (but still classy!) with a V neck as I find them to be more flattering on me but the way that this outfit was styled really opened my eyes to this shape of jumper being an option for me. The black of the skirt and the amount of leg on show really breaks up the outfit.
The jumper that I’m wearing is the Lane Bryant Ribbed Turtle Neck in the colour Gardenia Heather and when I first saw it, I thought that there was absolutely no way that it was going to fit. However it did. It fit like a glove. This is a piece that is cut close to the body but with masses of stretch in it so it really hugs every curve and fits like a dream. If the warmer weather wasn’t creeping in, I would definitely be ordering this for myself!
The coat that I’m wearing here is definitely something that I wouldn’t usually go for. Up here in the North East, we’re not too bothered about wearing a coat all that often (or at least that’s what we lead others to believe!) but I certainly haven’t really tried a collarless coat before. I like that it is an instantly chic piece thats easy to throw on to instantly upgrade an outfit.
This one is by Zizzi Black Label but there’s a similar plus size one available here.
For accessories, Hanna styled this outfit with a long necklace from F&F at Tesco (similar here), a black faux fur clutch bag from Simply Be (similar here) and some gorgeous platform boots from Evans (similar here) which I loved that much, Hanna even gave me them to take home!
If you’re a regular reader of my blog then I’m sure you’ll agree that this style is far away from a look that I usually go for but definitely a welcome change. I had so much fun playing dress up and taking photos with Hanna and I love the result!
