The pandemic-inspired rise of the staycation has prompted many Brits to consider what the UK’s many tourist destinations have to offer. Among the most appealing parts of the country is Yorkshire, with its famous sprawling moorland and wealth of historic towns and cities.
If you’re planning a trip to this part of the country, it’s worth doing a little bit of forward planning.
Why visit Yorkshire?
Yorkshire boasts a thriving tourist industry, worth around £7 billion to the local economy. There are three national parks to choose from, as well as a stretch of stunning coastline. There’s a wealth of quality pubs and restaurants, and a few vineyards, too. On top of that, there are the museums, cathedrals, and other amazing attractions.
What to do in Yorkshire
There’s no shortage of things to do in Yorkshire. Let’s run through a few of them.
The Deep Aquarium
Hull is home to one of the country’s largest aquariums, home to a fantastic diversity of marine life. More than three thousand different animals are to be found here. It’s the perfect place to take the kinds during a rainy day – but you’ll need to book in advance to get in.
Yorkshire Sculpture Park
Just outside of Leeds you’ll find Yorkshire Sculpture Park. A whole range of different artists showcase their work here, including famous names like Damien Hirst. There are more than a hundred sculptures to look at, spread over a 500-acre estate.
The history of human activity is, pretty much, a history of warfare and weapons. And there’s no better museum of arms and armour in the country than the Royal Armouries. The museum celebrated its twenty-fifth year in 2021, and it provides such a large assortment of things to look at and do that you could easily spend a whole day here.
Yorkshire Dales National Park
If you’re here to sample the famous countryside, then a visit to the Yorkshire Dales National Park is difficult to top. You’ll find gently undulating, grassy hills, as well as tiny little historic villages.
Take advantage of the motor home parks surrounding the Yorkshire Dales for a unique experience as you indulge in the beauty the countryside has to offer. Just remember to pack all your essentials, including clothes, food, motorhome manual and license and your motorhome insurance papers.
Amenities in Yorkshire
Part of the appeal of Yorkshire is that it offers a great balance between the outdoors and the convenience of city life. As such, if you need a more functional service while you’re travelling, you can usually find it – whether it’s an emergency dentist in York or a tyre replacement service in Leeds. Even if your accommodation is well outside of the city, you can usually find your way to the right facilities in short order.
If you’re going to get the best from your trip to Yorkshire, you’ll want to plan in advance and determine exactly how you’re going to spend the time – since there are so many different things to do!
