How To Cleanse Your Skin with the Magnitone Barefaced!

Magnitone Barefaced! Orange cleansing brush review

When I was in my teens, I started going out clubbing and wearing lots of makeup.  My skincare routine was pretty simple back then and although I had all of the products to complete a full skincare routine, I opted for face or baby wipes as my only method of removing my makeup.

Fast forward a few years and I quickly discovered just how much product I was leaving on my face by using wipes alone.  They quite simply do not get all of the makeup off your face and shouldn’t be used as your only method of makeup removal if you want to have clean, clear and healthy looking skin.  The same goes for micellar water on a cleansing pad.  It might look like its taking all of your makeup off but trust me, it isn’t taking it ALL off.

The only way, in my opinion, to thoroughly clean your skin to get all of the makeup, excess oil and dirt off is over the sink with a proper cleanser, good ol’ water and either a face flannel/muslin cloth or a cleansing brush.  You might think that the face wipes are removing all of your makeup but trust me, get yourself to a sink and you’ll be amazed by the amount of makeup and dirt that ends up on the brush or cloth.

Magnitone Barefaced! Orange cleansing brush review

Ever since I discovered that I wasn’t actually cleaning my face properly with wipes alone, I completely changed my routine and it has been something that I have stuck to for years ever since.  Keeping my skin looking healthy, glowing and youthful is so important to me and it needs to be clean in order to achieve that.  The fact is, when I didn’t clean my face properly, my skin was far more dull, I got a lot more blackheads and blocked pores and my skin looked tired as though it was showing more age than it should be.  I’ve never been someone who has had a lot of spots but my occasional breakouts were far more frequent when I didn’t cleanse my face properly.

I’ve spoken at length on my blog about the types of skincare products that I use and my routine in general but essentially I remove the bulk of my makeup that is sitting on the surface of my skin with a micellar water soaked onto a cotton pad and then I use a cream cleanser with either a face cloth or a cleansing brush to remove the deeply set makeup and dirt from my skin.  If I’m wearing very heavy makeup then I’ll actually use both, with the face cloth first and then the cleansing brush.  I haven’t ruled out wipes completely as they’re great for when I’m on the go and travelling but like with the micellar water and cotton pads, I’ll only ever use them to remove the surface makeup from my skin and will always follow up with a proper cleanse.  My skin really thanks me for it and as a result, my skin is generally clear, bright and healthy looking.

Magnitone Barefaced! Orange cleansing brush review

The cleansing brush that I’m using at the moment is the Magnitone Barefaced! which is the new daily cleansing brush that was added to the already fabulous Magnitone line this summer.  It uses vibra-sonic technology (sonic oscillations and electromagnetic vibrations) to deeply clean pores, tone and condition the skin to help you to feel confident in going Barefaced! with your skin whenever and wherever you are.

As someone who loves to go barefaced just as much as I love to wear makeup, this facial cleansing brush is perfect for me.  Not only does it give me super clear skin that’s worthy of showing off, but the new PulseLift mode that Magnitone have added to this cleansing brush, helps to boost micro-circulation and keep the skin looking toned and fighting fit.

There are three different pastel colours to choose from; pink, mint green and orange.  I picked the latter and as you can see, although it is a pale, pastel type colour, it is vibrant and really eye catching. I thought that it was a lovely touch that it arrived in a box that has a design on it in the same colour as the brush.

The packaging itself has directional instructions printed onto it so you know what everything in the box is and what the different parts of the Magnitone Barefaced! are for.  Inside, there’s everything that you need to get up and running with the brush, including the Two Mode Vibra-Sonic Facial Brush and Active Clean Brush Head, the wireless USB travel charger, splash proof travel pouch, free 12 month warranty and the MyMagnitone membership information.

When I say get up and running, theres no set up required.  You simply pop the facial brush on to fully charge  for 24 hours and you’re good to go.  After that, it only takes up to 8 hours to fully charge from flat using the USB travel charger which is so handy because you can plug it into any USB point to charge it.  Unlike other cleansing brushed that I’ve used in the past that come with a sizeable charging dock and a proper plug, this charger is super small and it actually attaches to the cleansing brush with a magnet so you just place it on top of the cleansing brush handle.

Magnitone Barefaced! Orange cleansing brush review

The Magnitone Barefaced! is really easy to use, as have all of the cleansing brushes been that I’ve tried before.  Simply massage your cleanser of choice into your skin and then turn on the device with the on button, funnily enough.  You’ll notice that the head of the brush will start to vibrate and pulse.  This is so that it can work deep into your skin and jiggle all of the dirt, excess oil and makeup that is in your pores out so that you end up with fully cleansed skin.  This is the difference between using a face brush and using wipes or a cleansing pad and even a face cloth, as it is getting deep into the skin where your hands don’t go.  It also promotes micro-circulation in the skin which is the circulation of blood in the small blood vessels.  It energises the skin, helps to repair it and gives it a healthy glow from the inside out.

The great thing about this method is that it only takes 1 minute to cleanse your whole face and neck thoroughly.  As the cleansing brush oscillates, you simply move it around your face (I like to use circular motions) and you’ll notice that the cleansing brush will beep at 20 second intervals for you to move onto another area of your face (forehead, cheeks and neck).  Once complete, I rise the head of the brush under warm running water and wipe my face with a damp cloth to remove any excess cleansing product and pat dry.

The difference in my skin through using something for only one minute is incredible.  My skin always looks clear, healthy and glowing and I’m always confident to go out without any makeup on and that’s because I cleanse my face properly.

Magnitone Barefaced! Orange cleansing brush review

I’ve noticed for a long time now that using a cleansing brush not only helps to clean my skin well but it also helps to exfoliate my skin everyday as well which in turn, makes my skin look bright and feel even and I don’t have to manually exfoliate my skin quite as frequently as I did before.  Having smooth, even and soft skin makes applying makeup an absolute dream as it literally glides onto my skin and doesn’t cling to the areas of my skin that would usually have a more rough texture had I not been using the Magnitone Barefaced! everyday.

This cleansing brush comes with the Active Clean brush heads which I find are great for daily use because the bristles are soft and gentle on the skin but still do a really good job at deeply cleaning it and exfoliating it.  Replacements are available here for when the one that comes in the kit is looking a bit tired and you can also purchase other brush heads here if you’re looking for a more or less intense effect.

The great thing about this cleansing brush is that it isn’t harsh on the skin.  All skin types can use it and it is perfectly safe to use daily, whether thats as part of your morning or evening cleanse, or both.  I like to use mine at night to thoroughly clean my skin, especially after a day of wearing makeup and I use it with a cream cleanser, usually the No7 Beautiful Skin which is my favourite.  I go through phases of using the Magnitone Barefaced! morning and night, it just depends on what cleansing products I’m trying out at the time to review on my blog and i’ll alternate its use accordingly.

I still do a proper cleanse every morning and night regardless of what method I use (cleansing brush or muslin cloth) but I do prefer to use the Magnitone Barefaced! cleansing brush with cream or face wash style cleansers and I like to use a muslin cloth with balm or oil cleansers.  To be honest, balms and oils don’t float my boat so I rarely use them but I do test them out from time to time in the hopes of finding one that I do actually rate.

I don’t notice much of a difference in my skin by changing whether I use it morning or night or just at night because I always use the Magnitone Barefaced! at least once a day and it cleanses my skin very well so it always keeps my skin in tip top condition.  I guess you could say that by using it, it makes my skin more reliable, I know that it is properly clean and as a result it is usually very well behaved!

Magnitone Barefaced! Orange cleansing brush review

I travel a lot so I love that this cleansing brush comes with a clear, splash proof travel pouch that I can keep it in when I’m on the go whether that’s to the gym, a hotel for the weekend or on a plane to a hot holiday destination.  As the cleansing brush isn’t as cumbersome as some I’ve tried, it makes it a great travel companion as it doesn’t take up too much space in my case or weigh too much.  I think that’s the beauty of the Magnitone Barefaced! in that they’ve made it so easy to use wherever you are that you don’t have an excuse to not use it.

If you get into the habit of cleaning your skin well everyday, you’ll see the benefits and wont ever want your skin to look any different.  The great thing about the Magnitone Barefaced! is that it is 100% waterproof so you can use it over the sink, in the bath or in the shower, wherever you are so it is very convenient as well as being quick and easy to use.  I remember my beloved Rio Sonicleanse met a sad fate when my dad knocked it into a bath full of water and it never worked again which is why I didn’t repurchase it as I quickly moved onto the Magnitone Pulsar cleansing brush (which I actually featured in my Christmas Gift Guide in 2013!) and very quickly realised just how much I appreciated the fully waterproof feature and the same goes now that I’ve switched to using the Magnitone Barefaced!  Being able to use it in the shower without worrying that it’ll break is so handy!

The effect is definitely instant and when you switch to using a cleansing brush, you do certainly notice a positive difference in your skin straight away, at least I did.  I have been using a cleansing brush for so long now that when I changed over to the Magnitone Barefaced! I just saw how clean and clear my skin continued to be and if ever don’t use it for a few days, I can really tell the difference in the way my skin looks and behaves.  If you’re using a cleansing brush for the very first time, you might notice that you’ll get a few pimples, etc for a few days.  This doesn’t happen to everyone as it’ll depend on what your skin and cleansing routine was like before using the facial brush but its called purging and is simply because the cleansing brush is bringing all of the dirt in your skin to the surface and getting rid of it.  Don’t worry, stick with it and after a week you should find that it clears up and you’ll see the benefits that I’ve talked about in this post.

Magnitone Barefaced! Orange cleansing brush review

Another noticeable difference that can be seen in using this cleansing brush is that the products that I use on my skin after I have cleansed, absorb so much better and are more effective because they’re actually able to get into my skin and do the job that they are intended for.

I really haven’t got a bad word to say about the Magnitone Barefaced! and I would highly recommend heading out to buy one or popping it on your Christmas list as it would make a great gift.  They’re priced at £70 which is relatively inexpensive compared to a lot of face brushes out there and the benefits speak for themselves.  It is completely worth adding one of these to your skincare routine!

They’re available to buy from the Magnitone website as well as from the retailers below.  Simply click the image to head through to their website on the images below.

This sounds really good. Don't you find it dries your skin out? I have quite sensitive skin, would you recommend it for me?

      November 4, 2015 / 6:01 pm

Definitely doesn't dry my skin out. Its just a cleansing method rather than an actual product that could dry your skin out so if you have really dry skin then you'd use it with a really creamy, moisturising cleanser (rather than a drying face wash, etc) and then you'd also find that when you apply your serum/oil and moisturiser afterwards, it'll sink in more effectively and hydrate the skin quickly and more effectively too! The brush head is gentle so I'd definitely say that its good for use on sensitive skins once a day (dont want to over exfoliate) or once every other day if you're exceptionally sensitive. Plus theres extra sensitive brush heads that you can get too xxx

I have the Michael Todd Soniclear Elite and I love it. Using a cleansing brush really does clean so well and exfoliate at the same time. I wish MT would come out with a "gentle" brush head because I have a heavy hand (I don't seem capable of holding gently against my skin!) – that way I could use it more often than a cople of times a week! Your cleansing brush looks fab too!

I loved this skin cleanser review (which is on my Holiday Wishlist) cause regular wash clothes and even makeup wipes are not enough to remove fine dirt, dead skin, and residue makeup! Right now I use creamy cleanser, facial scrub, and witch hazel toner!!

I have always wanted to use a facial brush, but was always so nervous about it being too rough on my sensitive skin. All the gunk I'm leaving behind with regular washing does freak me out though!

I desperately want a magnitone for my skin as even face wipes irritate my skin and cause breakouts but I can't afford the price it retails at which is a shame. Great review.

I'm seriously considering treating myself to a cleansing brush in the new year, I feel like at the age of 24 I shouldn't have such teenage skin! I'm just worried that the bristles might be too harsh on the skin but I may have to just bite the bullet and give it a go 🙂 Great review Laura, I love how much detail you've gone into here.Jess xo
