Travelling to exotic destinations halfway around the world is so exciting, but there is a big downside, the actual travelling part. Exploring a brand new country is great but travelling for two days to get there can be exhausting and incredibly boring. I know some people who would rather take a holiday at home instead of jetting off around the world but there are some things that you just can’t see unless you’re willing to tackle the long journey and by god are those sights worth it!
The key to surviving those long journeys is to find a way to entertain yourself so you can distract yourself from the boredom. As long as you come prepared and find ways to keep yourself occupied, those long journeys are a lot more bearable. These are some of the best ways to keep yourself occupied when travelling long distances.
LANGUAGE LEARNING APPS
This is a great idea that helps you to prepare for your trip and keep yourself occupied at the same time. It’s always handy to be able to speak the language in a new country, even if it’s just a few basics. It helps to connect with the locals and even if you aren’t great at it, they will appreciate the fact that you have tried to learn some of the language. If you’re taking a very long trip, you may as well spend the time trying to brush up on your language skills by using a language learning app. There are plenty of great ones out there and most of them are free, so download one before you leave and by the time you arrive, you’ll be able to speak with the locals fairly easily.
LISTEN TO THE RADIO
People don’t really listen to the radio as much as they used to but it’s great for those long journeys. Good DAB radios have plenty of stations to pick from and you won’t have to worry about choosing your music, you can sit back and let somebody else do it for you. It doesn’t really help you on the flight but when you touch down, you can have some fun trying to find the local radio stations and listening to those as well.
TRAVEL GUIDES
You should have some idea of what you want to do on your trip already, but the journey is a good opportunity to do some more research about the place. Get yourself some travel guides and read through them on the plane, then you can highlight sections and mark down all of the different things that you want to see. If you read through a few different travel guides, you should be able to find some exciting activities outside of the normal tourist traps so you will have a more authentic travel experience when you land. If you take the time to plan your trip during the journey, you won’t waste any time when you land and you can get to exploring right away.
These are some of the best ways to keep yourself entertained during a long trip, and they’ll help to improve your travel experience at the same time.
Great tips! I know if you travel with kids sometimes you get bored and tired. You have to entertain yourself and family too. There are always some great way as you mention to get low stress activities.
