Think about Materials

First of all, you need to give some thought to the materials you want to use.  You can choose something like composite if you want a modern look, but most of the time, you can’t go wrong with traditional timber decking. The main reason for this is that it’s durable, aesthetic, and able to withstand all weather conditions. You may also find that it is a great way for you to make your home look fantastic all year round. As timber is a very natural product, it can work very well if you have a garden, or if you want your home to look and feel great. If you do decide to opt for timber decking, it’s wise to make sure that you let it sit in your garden for a few days before you install it. The main reason for this is that it allows it to adjust to the local conditions. You should also avoid installing it when it’s too cold outside.

Preparing your Garden

The next thing you need to do is try to decide how you are going to prepare the ground. Choose the location for your decking and then mark out the square dimensions. You will need to fix some pegs in place here, as well as take the time to remove any weeds or rocks. You can use weedkiller if you want to stop growth moving forward, but at the same time, you will also want to avoid rushing the installation. If you can do this, then you will be able to ensure a smooth installation from start to finish.

Installing your New Decking

Start by taking the time to lay out the deck frame. There are lots of ways you can do this, and the option you go with will largely depend on the project you are trying to create. If you are building on the ground, then this will require a different approach when compared to building on concrete slabs. When you have the frame in place, you can then begin to install the boards. If you are using composite decking, then this isn’t as strong as timber, so you will want to put them a little closer together to try and support the weight. If you aren’t sure how to do the joists or if you would like a bit of advice with putting everything together, then you may find that asking the help of a handyman or a local tradesman is the best way to go, as they can work with you to get the result you need.
