I have just seen the most inspiring youtube video I’ve watched in a long time.
Youtuber Joey Graceffa has released a song called ‘Don’t Wait’ with a music video to accompany the track. In the video, he comes out as being gay through a visual representation of his feelings.
The music video was incredibly well thought out and the story told, both in the video and in the subsequent video that Joey put up explaining the video, is so empowering. I really think that it will change many peoples lives because Youtubers are so influential on todays generation. So many people have been inspired by Joey to be true to who they are and he has helped to give so many people the extra strength and confidence that they have needed to open up to those around them which I think is so admirable. What a legacy.
I haven’t really watched many of Joey’s videos in the past but he has always seemed like such a lovely man when I have watched him in other peoples videos. To be honest, I didn’t even realise that he hadn’t already come out. That kind of thing doesn’t cross my mind or bother me at all. The way that I see it is that love is love.
It really annoys me that someone should have to come out as being gay in the first place, especially in this day and age. I didn’t have to come out as being straight, so why should someone have to come out as being gay? Although it shouldn’t have to be the case that someone should have to announce their sexual preference, I really admire Joey for his bravery. Back in school, I was the person who two of my friends (one boy and one girl) came out to. I guess they knew that I was an open and honest person who is very accepting and would NEVER, EVER judge them.
I really hope that with figures such as Joey leading the way, others will feel inspired to be so much more comfortable in their own skin and that people will be more accepting of others.
Love is Love.
