Tonight, my friend Sharon from wedding stationery and party supplies company, Sparkles Design, headed to the Sunderland Empire for the press night of Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.
I’ve been to see this musical a couple of times in the past but aside from the iconic songs, I couldn’t remember much of the story and I must admit, that when the production images came through showing Elvis and cheerleaders, I was completely baffled as to what they had to do with the musical. However upon seeing the show, I found myself singing along with the songs and following the story line as though chatting with an old friend. Although I did still find the Pharaoh as Elvis odd and I still can’t remember that part from previous occasions of seeing this fabulous production.

Joseph and His Technicolour Dreamcoat retells the biblical story of Jospeh, his eleven brothers and the coat of many colours. It is performed by a truly wonderful cast including Alexandra Doar as the narrator who played an incredible role in leading the story from curtain up to fall. Her voice was outstanding and shes so talented to keep up such an epic performance from start to finish. Britain’s Got Talent finalist Mark Mullen took the role of Joseph in what was a fantastic performance; I especially loved his rendition of Close Every Door.

The audience of all ages loved the performance from start to finish, with many wanting to book tickets for another date in the run! The mega mix section at the end was fabulous as we all got up to dance and sing at our seats.
What a fantastic evening and one that I would urge you to go to see during its run at The Sunderland Empire and beyond!
Tickets are available online here and from the Sunderland Empire Box Office on High Street West.
